Hello, hello, come in! I'm SSGSSJ2, and you're interrupting a round of Yu-Gi-Oh. What's Yu-Gi-Oh, you ask? Well, I guess I can teach you. Pause, Xiao, I have to educate these fine people.

Well, Yu-Gi-Oh is a turn-based card game. Each player has a 40-60 card deck that they "duel" with. There's also an Extra and Side Deck, but that'll be touched on later. Each player starts a duel by deciding who goes 1st, then drawing a starting hand of 5 cards.

There are 3 types of cards: Monsters, Spells, and Traps. Monsters, which have Levels, Attack and Defense values, and are Summoned in the Monster Zone; Spells, which can be activated from the hand or set in the Spell/Trap Zone; and Traps, which must be set before activation. Each player gets 5 Monster Zones and 5 Spell/Trap Zones.

Each turn consists of 6 phases; Draw Phase, where the turn player draws the top card of their deck and adds it to their hand; Standby Phase, which is only for the resolution of card effects; Main Phase 1, where most of the turn's action happens. Monsters can be summoned, Spell Cards can be activated, and all 3 cards can be set in their respective zones. Battle Phase is when a monster can attack another monster, or an opponent for a direct attack. Main Phase 2 is a second Main Phase that happens after the Battle Phase, but only if you conduct a Battle Phase. And finally, the End Phase, where some effects activate, but it's mostly used to pass the turn to the opponent.

The first player in a duel skips their Draw and Battle Phase. The goal of a duel is to reduce your opponent's Life Points (Of which both players have 8000 to start) to 0. As well, if your opponent is unable to draw a card, they lose.

When Summoning a monster, you may Normal Summon it in face-up Attack Position if there is an space for it in one of your Monster Zones, or Set it in face-down Defense Position. When setting a card, you do not have to reveal it if it is set from the hand.

There are 5 types of Spell Card: Normal, which are a Spell Speed 1, and can be activated, or set and activated, either in the same turn, or on your next turn; Quick-Play, which are a Spell Speed 2, and can be set, then activated on your opponent's turn. Being Spell Speed 2 lets them chain to the activation of a card effect, something Normal Spells can't do. Continuous Spells are Normal Spells, but where Normal Spells go to the Graveyard upon resolution, Continuous Spells stay on the field, where its effect can be used again next turn. Field Spells are special in the way that they are placed in the Field Spell Zone, which is separate from the other 5; and Ritual Spells are another Spell Speed 1 that'll be covered in the Ritual Episode.

Traps come in 3 varieties: Normal, which are Spell Speed 2, but, like all Traps, must be set, then activated on a different turn. However, they can be activated on your opponent's turn. Continuous Traps are also Spell Speed 2, but stay on the field until their destruction. Counter Traps have a Spell Speed of 3, meaning only other Counter Traps can chain to its activation.

When a Normal Spell/Trap. Quick-Play or Ritual Spell, or a Counter Trap is used and resolved, or a card on the field is destroyed, it is sent to the Graveyard. If a card is banished, it's sent to the unofficially named "Banish Pile." Anytime you use a card effect that lets you look at your Deck, you have to shuffle your Deck afterwards. A Monster that is Level 5-6 requires a Monster to be Tributed to Summon it, while Level 7 and up Monsters need 2 Tributes. Any card that is Forbidden is not allowed in the Main, Extra, or Side Deck. Limited means that you may only have 1 copy of a card in a Main, Extra, or Side Deck. Semi-Limited describes a card that is only allowed to have 2 copies per Main, Extra, or Side Deck. And Unlimited means you can have 3 copies in all.

And with that, I think that's all the basics! If there's anything I think I missed, feel free to tell me. I'll be sure to respond, or even add it to the chapter. Anyways, until next time, Happy Dueling! Tune in next time for an explanation of the Extra Deck and Fusion Summoning! Now, where were we? Oh yes, I activate Raigeki.
