Is It Wrong?

Some say it's wrong

and perhaps they are right

That two lovers should not love

Until they are sealed up tight

Bound by marriage

the words and rings

That without it,

it somehow

cheapens things.

Although I can understand

Why they think that's true

It's extremely obvious

they've never been in love

with you.

From the first night we spoke

and said our thoughts about love

I knew it was you and no other

And praised God up above

That He chose to send me your way

I knew it was forever from that very day

To wait so long was not our intention

But perhaps divine intervention

When we chose to set things right

We were told we are a blight

a mockery of all that's sacred

And were now tainted

We were told we were wrong

About what we thought

That forgiveness should be sought.

But how can I feel sorry

For loving you

Does saying I do,

Make it any more true?

I have in my heart and soul

been devoted to you.

And I know you've been

devoted to me too.

So if we are living in sin

Then I'm glad to be wrong

For why wait for our lives to begin.

When I've found where I belong.

With so many marriages ending in divorce

Why should we be forced

to take a course

That begs remorse.

We tied the knot

Became man and wife

And despite the church's fears

We've been together for 26 years.

I wonder how many can say the same

who did prolong

who did stay strong

who would tell us

we were wrong.
