Exploring IbisPaint X
Its tools, features, etc.
-PART 1-

For anyone who has difficulty in figuring out the tools and all on IbisPaint X ヾ(*'∀`*)ノ

Also this will mostly cover only the basics, because I don't have much knowledge on the other tools, which I think, are for professionals.

Before I post any new tutorial, I'd like to enlighten you guys about some of the tools of IbisPaint. One thing that pushed me to do this was a question posted in the comments on one of my video from my YT channel, so yes, let's get started. I actually should've posted this before any tutorial lol (moving this chapter as the first one for the mobile tutorials).

By the way, I explored new things about IPX while making this hahahahah ('ヮ')

ㅡ❊ㅡ

I. MY GALLERY PAGE

When you click the + button at the bottom left, this window will pop out. Here you can Import a Picture, click on a given canvas size, or customize your desired canvas size.

II. LAYERS TAB

This is what you see when you click the Layers button.

Zoom in:
refer to the image above
for 1-5.

1. The + sign button is to add a new layer.

2. When you press this button, few options will pop out: Duplicate Layer and Add Layer from Canvas. Duplicate Layer enables you to make a copy of a specific layer. Add Layer from Canvas enables you to duplicate your whole canvas, the one you see at the preview under the Layers tab.

3. The camera button is to add a picture.

4-5. To invert the canvas horizontally and vertically.

refer to the image above
for 1-4.

1. Clipping (Mask) . This option will enable you to clip mask a certain layer to another layer. For example, layer A being clipped to layer B will cover the image pixels of layer B. See this:

2. Alpha Lock . You enable this option for a layer. When a layer is alpha locked, no changes can be made for that layer.

3. Blending Modes / Screen Tones . You set these blending modes or screen tones to a layer.

4. The slider to increase/decrease the layer's opacity from 0-100.

refer to the image above
for 1-8.

All options here are self-explanatory.

1. Clear Layer.
2. Invert Layer Color. Example, if the layer is all black, when you invert the color, it will turn to all white.
3. Move Layer.
4-5. Invert Layer horizontally/vertically.
6. Merge layer down.
7. Delete layer.
8. More options will pop out:

Most are self-explanatory except that I would like to explain one. Select Opacity will enable you to select the image pixels of a certain layer.

In the selection layer, it will show the selected area. Also anything you brush under this layer will be in selection. You can also use the Eraser tool to subtract it from the selection.

The background option will let you change the bg. Helpful in erasing the background of an image.

Little feature insert:

That arrow down button will change all the buttons to a more minimalistic style. Helps when you want see the whole canvas clearer while working. :>

III. COLORS TAB

You can play with the slider to select a color or you can simply click and drag the circles you see on the color wheel. The slider below the color sliders is responsible for the opacity of the color.

Clicking the first arrow [>] above will lead you to this:

See the two rectangle boxes above? Those are your selected colors. When you make a long-press to it, you can drag the color to these grids. This will be helpful for your color swatches, or when you want to save a specific shade of color. Mine looks pretty messy because I've deleted some, lol. (You can delete by long pressing a color from the grid/color swatch, and selecting delete).

IV. BRUSHES TAB

This is where you see the brushes. For some brushes, the arrow beside the preview of the brush will be available to click, and there you can customize the brush's thickness of start/end and opacity of the edge. For all brushes, you can increase/decrease the size/thickness of the brush and its opacity as well.

V. OTHER TOOLS TAB

1. Transform.

a. Translate Scale. This is for the normal zooming and rotating of pictures.

b. Perspective Form. You can play around with the points on the edge of your picture. This is useful in making mockups.

c. Mesh Form. There will be more points and you can practically warp the image.

2. Lasso. You use this tool in setting/adding/subtracting to the selection by drawing a line.

3. Brush. Already explained under IV. BRUSHES TAB.

4. Smudge. Usually used to smoothen out the skin of a faceclaim, to reduce the noise.

5. Bucket. To shade a color according to Opacity/Color. Advanced settings will also include restricting this tool to the whole canvas, to a specific layer or to the current layer.

6. Frame Divider. You can add a border for the canvas with this tool and adjust the horizontal/vertical space from the edge of the canvas, and the thickness & color of the border.

7. Canvas. Under this are options:

Others are self-explanatory, but I want to explain the first three.

Change Canvas Size. This is changing the canvas size with the option to select which part of the canvas to crop out. It's also like cropping, but just inputting the image size.

Trim. Basically the crop tool.

Resize. You can increase/decrease the image size with this. If you disable the Keep Aspect Ratio option, it will necessarily stretch the photo to your inputted image size.

To be continued.
Don't forget to vote if any infos under this chapter helped though! Comment if you have any questions~
