Vakrang, stood in the midst of the treasury, engaged in conversation with a treasurer, his eyes scanning the reports that lay before him. As Ajashakti and Anugamini entered the room, his gaze shifted towards them, a frown creasing his brow. His confusion was evident as he observed Ajashakti. The Daitya king, known for his regality and imposing presence, was now dressed in casual garments.

The treasurer, sensing the presence of royalty, bowed his head in deference. His eyes, filled with a mixture of respect and fear, met Ajashakti's gaze.

Ajashakti, his voice carrying a note of authority, addressed the treasurer. "I wish to bestow a gift upon the queen," he said,

The treasurer's face lit up with a smile. "Of course, Asur-raj." he replied, his voice filled with eagerness, ready to serve the king in any manner.

Vakrang, his expression turning sour, interrupted the exchange. "I was reviewing the expenditure reports," he said, his voice carrying a hint of annoyance.

"That can wait." Ajashakti dismissed his objection with a wave of his hand.

Vakrang's eyes widened in disbelief. Ajashakti had never neglected his duties, not even in the most trying of times. Yet, here he was now, prioritizing personal matters over the affairs of his kingdom.

A flicker of contempt crossed Vakrang's face as he realized the extent of Ajashakti's infatuation. His gaze shifted to Anugamini, his eyes scanning her with a critical eye. The woman stood composed, her head held high, her expression a mixture of confidence and defiance.

Ajashakti and the treasurer walked deeper into the treasury, Vakrang's gaze followed them. His mind was racing, trying to understand the transformation that had taken place in the Daitya king.

"What have you done to him ?" he demanded, his voice laced with bitterness.

Anugamini met Vakrang's gaze, her expression a picture of innocence. "What do you mean ?" she asked, her voice soft and gentle.

"He was ambitious, a great leader," Vakrang said, his eyes fixed on Anugamini. "But now, you have turned him into a lovesick fool."

Anugamini's eyes widened in surprise, her innocence feigning. "I didn't intend to," she replied, "All I want is for him to be himself, his true self."

Vakrang was about to speak when Ajashakti entered the room, his hand outstretched, holding a magnificent ruby necklace shaped like a lotus flower. The necklace, adorned with intricate silver filigree, was a breathtaking piece of jewelry.

"Here, dearest." Ajashakti showed it to her, "This lotus will never wilt."

"Extraordinary." Anugamini's eyes widened in delight as she took the necklace from Ajashakti's hand. She held it up to the light, admiring its beauty.

Vakrang looked at the necklace, then at Ajshakti and then at Anugamini. With a scoff he turned his gaze away. At that Anugamini's smile faltered, purposefully.

Ajashakti, noticing the change in her demeanor, reached out and took her hand.

"What's wrong?" he asked, his voice filled with concern, "Do you not like it ? I can have another made."

Anugamini's gaze turned to Vakrang and then to Ajashakti, "It's nothing," she replied, her voice barely a whisper.

Ajashakti, sensing her discomfort, turned to Vakrang. "Did you say something to her ?" he asked, his voice carrying a note of accusation.

Vakrang's gaze met Ajashakti's, his eyes widening slightly. The intensity in Ajashakti's gaze seemed to pierce his very soul.

Ajashakti turned to Anugamini, his voice filled with anger. "Tell me. Did he say anything to you ?" he asked, his eyes searching her face for any sign of distress.

Anugamini, forced a smile and shook her head. "No one said anything to me," she replied, her voice barely a whisper.

She took Ajashakti's arms and pulled him away. Her movement was swift and decisive. "We should go now."

As they walked away, Vakrang stood there, his face contorted with a mixture of anger and unease. The incident had been a clear warning, he couldn't even dare to question her. It would be a transgression that will never go unnoticed by the Asur-raj.

Ajashakti, having stepped out of the treasury, turned to Anugamini. His expression, a mixture of concern and curiosity, was evident as he said, "Be honest with me. Tell the truth."

"It doesn't matter," she sighed.

Ajashakti's frustration grew, his patience wearing thin. "Anugamini, tell me." He demanded, his voice carrying a note of urgency.

Anugamini relented and in carefully crafted words said, "It's just... he doesn't like how loving you are to me."

Ajashakti groaned, his frustration evident in his voice. "I'll smash his head in pieces," he muttered, his fists clenching.

Anugamini, sensing the intensity of his rage, placed a gentle hand on his chest, her touch a calming influence. "Don't," she pleaded, "I don't wish to cause a rift between brothers."

"There is already a rift between us." Ajashakti said.

"Then it's best we leave it for now." Anugamini said.

She held out the necklace to Ajashakti. Her eyes, filled with a knowing glint, met his gaze, a silent message that conveyed the significance of the gesture. Ajashakti took the necklace from her hand. With a gentle touch, he clasped it around her neck, the ruby pendant resting against her delicate skin.

Ajashakti's anger, a tempest that had threatened to consume him, was instantly quelled. A small smile played on his lips as he admired the way the necklace complemented her beauty. His rage was now replaced by a sense of peace and contentment.

"Beautiful," He muttered, his voice a soft murmur that carried a hint of awe.

His eyes, filled with a mixture of love and admiration, lingered on her. Anugamini, her heart filled with a sense of accomplishment, giggled softly. She reached out, her hand taking his arm. With a gentle tug, she led him back to Antahpur.
