The door bell rang. It was Aaron. Ever since he moved into my neighborhood, we walk together to school. As always he was on time and I was running late.
"She is upstairs." I heard my mom say to him.
I heard footsteps running towards my room and when I was about to open the door Aaron pushed the door open
from outside. It hit my head.
"Ow!!!" I winced in pain.
"Sorry sorry. I didn't mean to hurt you." He said bring his hand to my forehead to check for any damage. He rubbed my forehead to soothe the pain.
"It is okay." I said as he was still rubbing it. I looked up and saw concern in his eyes. I gave him a reassuring smile.
"From tomorrow you should be ready before I come here. You get that?" He ordered. I nodded my head like a child.
"Good. Now let's go." He lifted my backpack and ran downstairs."
"Oi! My bag?"
"Come and get it." He shouted from halfway down the stairs.
We talked while walking to the school. I liked spending time with him. We are together almost all the time now and everyone else has also started to notice this. Jen had started to believe that may be Aaron likes me but I don't believe her.
Ever since the ball many boys have asked me out but I rejected them all and girls, well some girls give me death glares for they think I have taken their precious Aaron away from them and some are trying to be extra friendly because they want to get closer to Aaron through me after they asked me whether we were dating and I answered them all with a big NO.
"I am telling you for the thousandth time Aaron likes you." Jen was insisting, again.
"And I am answering you for the thousandth time that no he doesn't like me."
"Just think about it for a second."
"Why wont you just drop it Jen?"
"Because I would really love to see you two together."
"You are mad." Saying this I left her there and went to my
class.
Aaron was sitting at the back and he waved at me when he
saw me entering the class.
"Hey."
"So how was the day so far?" He asked.
"Good. Except for Stacy literally trying to kill me with the looks she give me."
"You should ignore her." He said with a chuckle.
"What do you think I am doing?"
"That is like my girl." He said with a wink.
At the words 'MY GIRL', my heart fluttered with joy. I ignored the feeling.
He was playing with his pen and I hadn't released that I was staring at him till he raised his eyes and I quickly looked away in embarrassment. He chuckled under his breath.
"I know I am good looking." He teased.
"Says who?" I said sassily.
"You."
"When?"
"Just now."
"Really?"
"AHAN. You were staring at me."
"I wasn't."
"You were."
"Was not."
"Deny as much as you want but I would like to believe what my eyes
saw."
"You should go make your eyes checked by a specialist."
We were lost in our bickering and hadn't realized that the teacher was staring at us until he called our names.
"Mr. Black and Ms. Matthews?" We both looked up.
"Where do you think you are?"
"In the class." Aaron replied as a matter-of-factly.
"Didn't seem like it. Detention both of you."
"What?" I groaned.
"Yes Ms. Matthews. After school both of you. You will spend extra half hour in the detention room."
"Okay." Aaron shrugged his shoulders and sat again.
"I hate you." I mouthed the words at Aaron and he smirked.
"Good bye." I hugged Sam and then Jen. Sam hugged me back and then said something in Aaron's ear and he
smiled. Jen hugged me and whispered, "Have fun," in my ear and then winked at me. We said our good byes to Chaz and Irelene as well and walked to the detention room. When we reached there we saw Sean. He had asked me out the next day after ball and I had rejected him. When he
saw me he smiled at me and then he saw Aaron behind me and his smile turned into a scowl.
"What's up dude?" Aaron asked him.
He ignored him.
I sat the table opposite Sean but Aaron held my arm and made me follow him to the back of the room.
"We should sit in the front." I whispered.
"Enough with the rules. You worry too much. Besides Mrs. Cross is sleeping most of the time."
Mrs. Cross was the teacher in charge of the detention room.
"Looks like you know this room very well."
"Yes I used to come here a lot when I was here before."
"Oh. Speaking of those days. We weren't this close that time. Right?"
"Yeah kind of. Though we were friends back then as well. You used to be with Sam and Jen most of the time and also with Chaz." He said the part about Chaz a bit sadly. I didn't ask
why.
"And you used to be with Chaz and Irelene."
"Hmm yeah."
"You never talk about Irelene."
"What is there to talk about?" He was looking straight ahead.
"I mean she was your girlfriend and she is with your best friend now. Besides she was your first love."
"Says who?" He looked at me.
"What do you mean? Wasn't she? She was your first girl friend."
"Yes. But she was not my first love."
I smiled teasingly at him.
"Who is she then?"
"I will tell you but some other time at the right moment." I pouted.
"Why is Sean staring at you?" Aaron was irritated by the fact that Sean was staring at me.
"I don't know. Ask him." He nodded.
"Oi Sean. What are you looking at dude?"
"Umm... At Kayla. You have got problem with that?" Aaron glared at him. Sean smirked. Thankfully Mrs. Cross woke up at that very time.
"Hey. What are you lads doing here? Go home. Detention is over."
Aaron bumped shoulders with Sean on his way out.
We were walking towards home when Jen called me.
"Hey Jen. What's up?"
"You out of detention already?"
"Yeah Mrs. Cross left us out early."
"Cool. I have to tell you something very important." She sounded excited.
"What is it?" I was curious to know.
"Aiden was asking about you."
"Who Aiden?"
On hearing this Aaron looked at me with sudden interest.
"I will tell you later. I have to go..." With that she hung up the phone and left me to my imagination.
"Who is Aiden?" Aaron asked looking at me with narrowed eyes.
"I don't know. Jen said he was asking about me."
"And you don't know him?" He asked again. When I shook my head he nodded then said, "But I have heard this name before."
