I cannot write love songs,
Because I cannot seem to grasp,
How one person's smile
Can cause someone's breath to catch.

I cannot write love songs,
Because I know better than to think,
That one person's laugh
Can fill the hole that he left.

But maybe I could write love songs,
(If I could only understand),
How one person could fix
What has been broken and bent.

If I could write love songs my world would be bright;
Maybe it could even chase away the night.
