( ★ ) Cousins, Massachusetts was the town that hundreds of people traveled to every year. It was right on the beach and allowed those in the area to still enjoy the sand and water while not having to travel hundreds of thousands miles. The town was best known for its debutante ball every year, girls and boys dressing up to show their elegance and maturity. The ball was normally organized by the country club with a board of members helping as well, some of them being susannah fisher, jennifer bardot, and brittany wright.

The town was also known for those that lived there and the houses they had along the beach. While hundreds of people actually lived in cousins year round, hundreds of people had summer houses there. The Bardot family was one of those families, along with the fisher family. Susannah and Jennifer had grown up together, along with their friend, Laurel. Along the way, they found more friends and eventually had kids that all became friends. It was the perfect story they wanted. Although, nothing was perfect in their friend group or their kids friend group.

That summer would be one of the last, if not the last, summers where everyone was together. It was either everyone was going off to college or they just didn't have time those following summers, and while it pains them, they were prepared to make that summer the best summer they've ever had. If only things ever went according to plan when it came to cousins.

( ★ ) August Bardot hated his dad from the moment he laid a hand on his mom and sisters. He never had a strong relationship with his dad anyway but seeing him throw his little sister into the ground and throw his twin into a wall pushed his hatred further. He knew his mom could defend herself but his sisters couldn't, not at the age they were. That's the main reason why august became the main target. He stood up for his mom and siblings and ended up the one on the ground and in the wall. But he didn't care in the end, as long as his family was safe.

By August's twelfth birthday, the boy had been the hospital at least 25 times. There had been a case filed a few years prior because august told his best friend, Carter, about it but nothing was done because Anthony Bardot could end anyone that tried to go against him. The Hampton family always felt horrible about what happened but there was nothing they could do, they were nothing but neighbors and friends of the bardots. Carter and August continued their friendship and eventually, turned it into more.

They let their relationship be more than just a friendship for a year or two but it eventually came to an end, both boys agreeing they were too young for a relationship. But now, nothing is stopping the two boys other than themselves. Carter and August are the story of an almost love story turned into a real love story.

( ★ ) Carter Hampton grew up in a home with two loving parents and a little brother, everything was perfect for him. His parents had successful jobs and Carter himself was doing well in his academics and sports. But everything came crumbling down that fall. The fall before he would go back to cousins for possibly the last time. His little brother, Luca, always had a hard time, any kid that had leukemia would. But he was one of the kids that didn't react to the chemotherapy or any other treatment. Carter did everything he could to help his little brother but nothing was working. And then one day, he was just gone. Carter came to the hospital after school and found the room completely empty. He wasn't sure what happened, so he held his head up as he tried to track down his brothers doctor. And when he finally did, he instantly knew. He knew the moment he made eye contact with her that his little brother had died. That's why he was how he was. He was tough and caring because if he wasn't, he would breakdown at the thought of no longer having his little brother there with him.

The only thing keeping him together was being with his best friend, August Bardot, and helping those around him. Helping those that needed it allowed him to heal from not being able to save his brother. It allowed him to save other families from the pain he suffered earlier that year. Yeah, he was still experiencing pain because of his parents and their harsh words but he was healing himself and that's what mattered most. Healing himself allowed him to finally be with the one person that brought him happiness and comfort. The almost love story turning into a real one.

( ★ ) August and Carter had been best friends from the moment they met when they were younger. They instantly clicked, their personalities matching each others. They both were incredibly chaotic and fun but also both cared about those around them. It was something they were able to bond over. They would help their communities and help families in need, healing themselves from the trauma they both endured at home. It allowed them to get closer and actually form the relationship they had wanted since they were young.

The almost relationship from years ago was forming again between Carter and August and they would be lying if it didn't make them happy. They would be lying if they said the thought of being together didn't make them happy.
