A long dark hallway

The only road left to travel.

She wanders,

Stumbling on old memories and regrets.

Alone in the hallway,

Alone in the misery,

Alone, all alone in the dark.

She opens her mouth to speak,

But her silent cries go unheard.

She is all alone in the dark.

There is no sound coming from her cracked and dry lips.

There is nothing more she needs to say.

While she is alone in the dark.

She knows the fear will eventually engulf her,

Swallow her up through all the years of secrets.

Drown her in the reality of being alone,

Alone in the dark.

“Why me?” She chokes back tears and screams.

“What have I done? What sin have I committed?”

There was no answer from the black stretch in front of her.

Only the eerie quietness of being alone in the dark.

“You have not won!” She yells to no one.

“You will not take my soul, my heart, my body.

You cannot have them, for they are already lost,

Alone in the dark.”

She realized the cries of her pain were not for anyone to hear,

But for her own soul to be convinced.

She was so lost to the secrets,

She no longer knew what was real,

For she was trapped,

Alone in the dark.

Her heart throbbed to reveal it’s true nature,

It’s longing was enough to take her breath.

Gasping in the want, in the longing, in the need to tell her secret,

She knew she was alone in the dark.

Too frightened to speak her emotions aloud,

She cuts her wrist to let her soul speak with blood.

Touching the wetness dripping to the floor,

She finds a wall and begins to write,

Using the ink of her lifeline.

There was no more she could do,

No one who would listen to her pleas,

So she wrote,

Because she was tired of being alone in the dark.

Feeling her heart slow down,

Her breath quickened.

She fell to the floor,

In the pool of her own sorrow.

That girl died not long after.

She was alone and scared,

But all she needed was for someone to know.

For anyone to look at her and see,

To see just how much she wanted them to understand,

That she was alone in the dark.

Now that wall bears her burden,

The secret she took to her solemn grave.

The secret she wrote upon that wall,

The one that caused her so much suffering,

So much isolation, So many tears.

The secret she wrote upon that wall,

The one she dared not say aloud,

Was merely a simple phrase.

Now, the words “I love you” are written on the wall.

And they will stay there,

Eternally,

Alone in the dark.
