Ninja-01 this is my One Shot for your competition. I think it might be too long to even be considered as a One Shot, (I kinda got carried away lol) but hopefully it still works.

Bright sun seeped through through the window, spreading throughout the room. A young raven haired boy rolled over and groaned, trying to escape the light urging him to wake up. Eventually, he peeked open one eye and blinked a couple times to get used to the sunlight. That's when he remembered. Today was his last day in Kalos. Today a plane would take the new Champion back to Kanto, away from his new friends. Ash felt as if something was squeezing his heart, and his body felt heavy.

"I knew this day would come eventually, but the time has gone by so fast," He said, turning to his partner Pikachu. "Today we have to say goodbye to the gang." Pikachu sadly rubbed his head against his trainer's palm. Ash sighed and looked to the clock. It read 10:00. Only one hour left. "Better finish packing," he said, hauling his suitcase on to the bed.

The gang ate breakfast in silence, all of them wanting to avoid talking about the event taking place soon. Bonnie looked around the table in frustration, and plopped down her spoon with a clang.

"Enough of this!" She exclaimed, making eye contact with each person at the table.

"Bonnie-" Clemont began, but his little sister shushed him.

"We need to stop acting like Ash is going to die or something, I'm sure we'll see each other again! We need to enjoy the time we have left together!" The small, fair haired girl said. Serena continued playing with her food.

"We just... aren't prepared to say goodbye," she sniffed, her eyes glistening. Clemont nodded in agreement and looked forelornly back down at his food.

"Guys, I know its hard; it's hard for me too, but we will always be great friends!" Ash said, trying to put on a smile. He looked to each of his friends. He really would miss them. Serena pushed her bowl forward.

"Ash and Bonnie are right, we need to stop sulking," she said, trying to compose herself. Clemont took a deep breath and stood up.

"Yeah, I guess you're right, but I'm really gonna miss you guys," he said. They all gave a slight nod and looked at the floor, returning to their silence. After what seemed like an eternity of quiet, Ash spoke up.

"I better go get my bags," He said quietly, standing up. Serena stood up as well.

"I'll help," she said, following Ash up the stairs.

"Here, Serena, you can grab my backpack over there, and I'll get my suitcase," Ash said, pointing to his green bag in the corner. Serena nodded and walked over. She knelt down to pick up the backpack, but instead reached into the pocket of her jumper. She pulled out a small, creme colored envelope, and after making sure Ash wasn't watching, slipped it into the backpack. Her hands trembled a bit, but she managed to zip and pick up the backpack. Ash started down the stairs with his large blue suitcase while Serena followed with the green bag. When they reached the bottom of the stairs, Serena handed the backpack to Ash, who slipped it on.

"Well, time to go," he said, heading towards the door, his suitcase bumping along behind him. The others sighed and followed close behind.

A while later, the gang reached the crowded airport. Clemont looked at the airport clock. The time read 10:50. Ash's flight would be boarding in a mere 5 minutes.

"This is the second call for Flight 07 leaving for Kanto," a female voice announced over the loudspeaker. Ash looked to his friends, who were all holding back tears, but trying to stay strong. The time had come to finally say goodbye. The squeezing feeling in his chest returned.

"So I guess this is goodbye," Ash said quietly, feeling tears rise to his eyes. Bonnie ran forward and hugged him tightly.

"I'm gonna miss you Ash," she cried. "And you too Pikachu," she said, patting Pokemon's head. "Do you promise to visit?" Bonnie asked, looking up at the raven haired trainer.

"Only if you promise show me your brand new Pokemon when you get older," Ash replied to her, smiling. "Maybe we can have a battle someday!" Bonnie grinned, and wiped away her tears.

"I'd like that," she said, then released Ash from the hug. Next came Clemont, who held out his hand.

"Thank you Ash, for teaching me so much and being such a great friend. Thanks to you, I can go back and be the gym leader I've always wanted to be," He said, smiling. Ash grasped the boy's hand.

"Thank you too Clemont, I have learned so much from you as well, I have become a much better trainer, and learned a bunch more stuff about science. Keep working on those inventions of yours," Ash replied, winking.

"I will," Clemont nodded confidently. "I will keep getting stronger, so maybe next time we battle, it will be me who is triumphant," Clemont said, grinning. Ash laughed and smiled as well.

"I can't wait," he said. Clemont then returned back to his sister, squeezing her hand. Ash looked past them to Serena, who stood, fiddling with her shirt. "Serena?" He said softly. Serena's eyes filled with tears and she rushed forward, embracing Ash.

"Don't forget me okay?" She sobbed into his shoulder. Ash wrapped his arms around her, holding her tightly.

"I would never forget you Serena," he assured her. Ash then took her hands, bringing them down and looking into her cerulean eyes. "Promise me you won't give up on your dream," he said. She smiled.

"Promise." They stood like that for a moment until the loudspeaker interrupted.

"Final call for Flight 07 going to Kanto," the voice said. Ash looked up at the loudspeaker. Serena looked down.

"Goodbye Ash," she whispered. She then gave him a quick peck on the cheek. She backed away, blushing, before anyone noticed. Ash touched the spot on his cheek Serena has kissed him. He opened his mouth to say something, but Serena interrupted. "Go on, you don't want to miss your plane," she said looking to the gate leading to his flight. Ash nodded slowly and grabbed his bags.

"Goodbye everyone!" He exclaimed as he began walking away.

"Bye!" His friends chorused back. Ash turned and headed towards the gate leading to his flight. Then a man bumped him, causing his hat to fall off. Ash didn't notice and kept walking. Serena saw the red and white hat lying on the ground and ran to grab it. Ash continued on throughout the gate.

"Ash, wait!" Exclaimed Serena picking up his hat and running the gate. The man working there stopped her.

"Only ticketed passengers beyond this point," he said.

"But, he forgot-" Serena began, but the man interrupted

"No buts, no exceptions," he said shaking his head.

"Ash!" Serena called out once more. This time, the raven haired boy did turn around. He saw Serena at the flight gate, holding up his red and white hat. Ash reached up to his head and noticed it missing.

Making a quick decision he shouted back, "Keep it! That way you will always remember me!" Serena looked at the hat, then nodded, holding it to her chest. Ash smiled then continued walking onward. He pictured Serena holding the hat, and realized something was missing. After thinking about it for minute, Ash gave up, handing his ticket to the flight attendant. As he stepped onto the plane he smiled a bit and said, "So long Kalos, thanks for the great adventure."

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The plane had taken of about a half and hour ago. After a quick nap, Ash began to feel bored. He picked up his green backpack, which he had decided to keep with him for the flight. He began rifling through it, looking for something to do. Snacks? Not hungry. Movie? Nah. Then something unexpected fell out... a cream colored envelope. Ash picked it up, examining it.
"I don't remember putting this in here," he said in confusion. Then, Ash noticed some letters on the front, spelling... Ash. The letters were in fancy, swooping writing, clearly not his own. "Well, if it's addressed to me, I guess I can open it," Ash thought, then began opening the envelope. First thing he pulled out was a picture. After taking a closer look, he realized it was the picture taken when the gang was with Korrina. Ash smiled at the picture. "That was quite an adventure," he chuckled quietly. He looked at the smiling faces of Korrina, Bonnie, Clemont, and Serena again, then placed the picture aside, pulling out the next item. It was a folded up paper. Curious, Ash unfolded it and began reading.
Dearest Ash,
By the time you read this, you will be long gone, off on a new adventure.This is probably a good thing, seeing that I could never tell you this face to face. The thing is Ash, there's been something I've been meaning to tell you for a long time. It all started back at Professor Oak's Summer Camp with that silly Poliwag. When you helped me back then, I saw you as my hero, and the truth is, you still are. I like you Ash, well, I... love you. I think I have ever since you helped me all those years ago. I kept your handkerchief all those years so I would remember you. When I saw you on the news, I knew I had to see you again, the boy with the blue handkerchief, my hero. That's why I went to find you, and I'm glad I did. It was an amazing adventure traveling with you, Clemont, and Bonnie. I had the best time of my life journeying with you guys. You helped me so much. I realized my dream, I made new friends, (human and pokemon) and I finally stood up to my mom about not wanting to be a Ryhorn racer. I'm sad that it all had to come to an end, but that's what all the great adventures do. I hope that this isn't the very last page of our story though, maybe someday we will meet again. But for now, you go meet new people and Pokemon, and keep writing your story and trying to become a Pokemon Master. I will keep writing my story too. Maybe when we meet again, our dreams will be accomplished. I don't want you to worry about me, I have gotten strong, thanks to you, but I did leave something to remember me by. Don't forget me Ash, I hope we meet again someday!
-Serena
Ash read the letter, then read it again. He felt tears rise to his eyes as he read her words. Looking out the window, he saw nothing but clear blue sky. "Like her eyes," Ash thought looking again at the picture and smiling. Then, something else blue caught his eye. The last item in the envelope. Ash pulled it out and smiled again. It was the blue ribbon he had given Serena. The one she wore everyday. "Something to remember me by," Ash recalled the words from Serena's letter. "That's what was missing in the airport," he realized. He then pictured Serena holding his hat and recalled his own words, "Keep it! That way you won't forget me!" He had said. Ash tied the ribbon around his wrist. "I won't forget Serena, I promise."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Neither Ash, nor Serena knew what the future would hold that day, but it is possible

Many years later

A boy

And a girl

Not as young as they once were

Might arrive at the same airport

Wearing their treasures

A faded blue ribbon

And a worn out hat

And they might

Just maybe

Start a new adventure.
