Step 9: Steal Some Shit

Jack slammed the door shut and sprinted off down the hall. Before he had been looking for the armory now he was running for his life as he could hear yelling girls behind him. Jack slammed into someone who shouted after him.

So much for laying low.

Jack sharply turned a corner and threw himself in the first room that he saw and shut the door behind him.

Jack slowly turned around surveying his surroundings. Finding himself in an closet.

He put his ear to the door listening to footsteps thunder past. Slowly he opened the door and stepped out.

After straightening his shirt Jack kept his head down and walked down the hall once again. He glanced at doors finding himself more than lost.

Jack walked passed some stairs and went through double doors before he heard humming from around a corner. Jack froze and peaked around.

In front of two doors stood a guard.

Jack internally smiled something important must be in that room. The guard wore external armor and held a large gun. Jack paused trying to figure out what to do.

After a moment he stepped out and walked around the corner and past the guard. The guard barely seemed to notice him, too busy lip syncing to some song blasting from earbuds. Once he was far enough down the hall he stopped walking and turned around and walk back the other way. The guard still paid him no mind. So, once again he spun around and walked back.

He had to repeat this two more times before by he finally caught the guard's attention. When Jack got to the end of the hall he turned around and walked back again he could feel eyes on him. He walked back and turned once more. This time the guard spoke, "What the hell are you doing?"

"Walking," Jack replied walking past the guard once again.

The guard groaned and rolled his eyes. "Thanks for the clarification. Why are you walking back and forth?"

Jack turned around and started walking toward the guard again but this time he stopped in front of the guard and cocked his head slightly. "Why not?"

"You're getting on my nerves."

"Why thank you."

"Look," the guard said clearly agitated. "Leave or I will report you."

"Have I done something wrong?"

The guard took a step forward so he and Jack were practically nose to nose. "I will give you one-" Before he could finish Jack landed a punch to his throat before slipping his arm around the guard's throat and hooked his arm back and then grabbed his own arm and began to squeeze. Despite the guard's kicking and hitting him, Jack didn't release the guard from his headlock. Finally the guard stopped moving and Jack dropped him. Jack searched the guard and pulled off the guard's pass and placed it on the scanner to open the door.

Once the door was open Jack grabbed the guard and slid him into the room with him. Jack smiled at the room's contents. He opened his large duffel bag and tossed as much as he could fit inside of it. Jack was sure to take variety of guns and knives. Naturally he also took a bunch of ammunition. He considered grabbing more items but he worried grenades could have a mishap in the bag (in hindsight it was probably not the nest way to carry weapons). Once he had finished Jack was about to slip back out the door when he noticed a Emergency Exit map pinned to the wall. He quickly ripped it down and began trying to figure out where he needed to go.

Leaving the armory, Jack vaguely wondering why whomever it is watching the camera's hadn't come for him. Pushing the thought to the side Jack walked off down the hall once again. This time without turning around.

He followed the map to best of his ability doing his best not to get turned the wrong direction (it wasn't his fault all the halls looked the same). After a few minutes Jack became frustrated worrying that someone would find the unconscious guard sooner rather than later. Picking up the pace Jack followed the map to the other side of the building and up a floor before he finally stopped in font of a room. He drew the first stolen security pass from his pocket and replaced it with the map.

Placing the pass on the scanner he quickly glanced around the hall before turning the door handle and heading inside.

The room was empty only thing there were the computers at each seat. Though that was was to be expected this early in the morning. He dumped his bag of weapons next to him as he sat a computer to the right of the door in the corner and turned it on. It took a moment to power up and immediately asked for his name and ID number. Looking at the name on the stolen pass, Adam, he quickly typed in the number which followed.

Once Jack had the computer open it allowed him access to the all the files he needed. He searched the files for anything relating to the New York Base's location, the Institute History, himself, Tristan and Summer. It certainly took much longer than he would've hoped but soon enough he found all the he could. He didn't have time to read it all though. Instead he pulled out a flash drive (which he may or may not have stolen from Elias's room) and plugged it in. The files were only partly downloaded on the drive when he heard footsteps coming down the hall.

Jack's heart practically stopped as he listened hoping the footsteps would simply pass him by. The footsteps came to a stop outside the door and Jack internally cursed. His eyes flitted back to the screen. He ejected the flash drive and shoved it in his bag as quietly as possible. Jack hit the button to turn the computer off and watched as the dull glow was replaced with a dark screen.

The footsteps moved on.

Jack breathed a sigh or relief as he quickly grabbed his bag and stumbled to the door. He paused listening but he couldn't hear anyone. After a deep breath he opened the door and walked out. He headed down the hall when he heard footsteps behind him but, Jack didn't dare turn around. He kept walking as if he knew where he was going and what he doing. Jack turned another corner and kept walking and he was happy the footsteps didn't follow. He turned another corner when he came face to face with a group of girls. "There he is!"

Jack spun fast and sprinted off down the halls once again. He flew down the stairs practically falling down them as he tried to lose the group of girls.

"I got an idea!" One of the girls pursuing him shouted. Jack didn't get time to wonder what her idea was as the light's cut out. Jack ran in the darkness having no clue where he was going. Something the girls clearly knew. He could see only by the moonlight from the windows using that he made a turn. He made the sharp turn and crashed through a pair of double doors into a dark hallway stumbling into a person. Jack barely had time to think as he was  flung against a wall and a hand gripped his shirt as a gun was pointed to the center of his forehead.

"I knew there was something wrong," The other person said.

"Is there?" Jack asked.

"Who are you?"

"Adam," Jack replied.

The other person who decided was a boy dragged him over slightly to better see Jack's face in the light. There was a short pause before Jack heard a sound like someone choking before he spoke. "Blake?"
