[ORIGINAL CHAPTER]

As I was sat down in the carriage looking through the window I finally began to feel settled, because for such a long time I had felt nerves like any other, I was currently on the train to poplar in London after qualifying as a midwife. After everything I had gone through a fresh start was needed and he was everywhere and anywhere there which made his death harder to deal with.

Peter was my soulmate we had met when we were 14 we both had rough childhoods which meant that we became each other's family, getting married at 18 however we weren't blessed with a child which we accepted, however when he was passed from cancer a year ago I wish that we had a child because then i would have some sort of him left in my life. Peter had developed lung cancer from working in the mines along with my job as a secretary we weren't poor but we got by, however when he passed I decided to train as a nurse and midwife because I wanted to help people both at the beginning of there lives and end.

As the train stopped I snapped out of my dase and looked out of the window to see I had arrived so I grabbed what little luggage I had from the overhead and began to head out to the carriage as my first foot stepped onto the platform I took a deep breathe taking in my new surroundings.

Before heading out of the rail station i wasn't sure where I was going so I just kept walking hoping someone would see I was lost and direct me or I would see one of the midwife's however after walking a while I noticed a lot of men kept staring at me however I kept walking until I noticed one of the nurses as she was about to get on her bike so I ran over to her "I do beg your pardon but I'm a little lost and looking for nonatus house" I said which made a smile appear on her face "have we got angle to joining our ranks im Trixie" Trixie said happily as she placed out her hand to shake "Lily" I said as I shook it.

"I'm back now you can follow me if you like I promise to be slow" Trixie said as she chuckled before we headed to the nonatus house as we arrived I looked around me to see rubble all around me Poplar was a lot different than where I was from as we walked up the steps Trixie pressed the doorbell as I stood there nervous, moving to Poplar was a huge change for me I knew no one here I had left all my family back in Derbyshire well what little family I had.

As the door opener it was an older sister "it's alright sister Monica Joan it's Trixie and this is Lily she's going to be joining our ranks here" Trixie said as she stepped aside so that she could see me "Hello" I said with a nervous wave which made a strange look appear on her face towards me before stepping aside and letting us in "I'll take you to sister Juliennes office she's the sister in charge here.

I had just come out of nursing school and I hadn't worked in a convent let alone lived in one so every step I took I looked around me so that I knew my way around. Until we reached a room and Trixie stopped before knocking "enter" I heard a voice say before Trixie opened the door and we stepped inside "Sorry to bother you Sister Julienne but this is Nurse" Trixie said before looking at me "Nurse Lily Jones sister" I said with a smile on my face to cover up how nervous I was "ahh our new midwife" Sister Juileene said as she stood up from her desk "I'd better be getting on" Trixie said as she left "please sit" Sister Juilenne said as she pointed to the seat in front of her so I sat down placing my bags beside me.

"Welcome to Nonantus house Nurse Jones, I'm sister Julienne" Sister Julieene said with a welcoming smile on her face "I'm happy to be here" I said as held my hands on my legs trying to calm myself "so you left nursing school with top marks, that's very impressive" Sister Julieene said "I hope so" I said marking her chuckle "Poplar is one of the poorest parts of London that's why we're here to help the women of poplar" Sister Julieene said "I will show you to your room and get you set up with a uniform" Sister Julieene said as she sat up from her desk and I followed her upstairs until we reached a room and she opened the door it had two beds "we have another nurse joining us shortly so you will share, unpack and I will bring you a set of uniform" Sister Julienne said as she left closing the door behind her.

As she did I sat down on my before opening my case but as I did on top of the case was a photo of myself my husband Peter which made me sad for a moment before taking it out of case and placing it on my beside table before unpacking my things as I did the door opened another nurse appeared as the door opened which made me look towards the door "Hello I'm Cynthia" Cynthia said as she smiled "Lily" I said as I placed my handout to shake which she did "I've brought your uniform" Cynthia said as she placed it down on the bed "Thankyou" I said before she left and I got changed before looking myself in a small mirror in my bedroom. Smiling because I was happy that I was here and having on the uniform made it even better.

I smiled once more before heading downstairs to see everyone at the dinner table "Everyone please welcome Nurse Jones" Sister Julianne said which made everyone look at me "Hello" the nurses said as they looked at me "you can sit next to me" one of the other sisters said so I went and sat next to her "this is Sister Evangeline, you've met Sister Monica Joan and this is Sister Bernadette" Sister Julienne said as I looked at each Sister. "Hello" i said as I looked at each one of them.

We all sat down to have lunch before I was taken to the room where all the medical supplies were kept, cleaned and put into our bags "so we aren't going to throw you into the deep today" Sister Julienne said as all the others were packing there bags ready to leave "today get used to your new surroundings" Sister Julienne said as she grabbed her bag and headed out. So I wondered around the convent when I entered the kitchen so see Sister Monica Joan was sat there eating cake but as she saw me enter she looked guilty "Hello Sister" i said with a smile on my face before sitting at the table with her.
