"Are you almost done packing?" Julia Wishbone asked her daughter. Amethyst nodded from her perch on the window seat.

"Have you received my host information?"
"Yup. You will be hosted by Natasha Summerville."

"Can't wait." Amethyst turned to her mother and smiled. "What about the fine arts classes? Did they accept me?"

"Of course!" Julia laughed. "Who wouldn't?"

"Great." Amethyst picked up her notebook and started scribbling. "I heard they have great programs out there."

"What are you working on now, honey?" Mrs. Wishbone asked. Amethyst cleared her throat and sung the first few lines of her new song.

"When the rain falls, you think that all is lost, you'll never start again, you've been pushed into the ground. But then the water stops, and you can see again, somewhere out there, a bright future calls."

Julia clapped when Amethyst finished. Her voice was soft and bittersweet, clouded with emotion pulled from deep inside her. Amethyst wasn't born with a good voice, but after many voice coaches, she'd become the best singer at their school.

"That may be the best one yet. I can't wait to hear the rest of it!"

"Me neither." Amethyst laughed, then changed the subject. "So what's Natasha like?"

Julia shrugged. "She didn't include much information about her personality or anything, but she participates in a lot of extracurricular activities."

"What type?"

Julia shrugged again. "School stuff. Debate, library, all that. But she does do some fine arts as well."

"Sounds fun." Amethyst flashed a bright smile.

"Mm-hm." Julia checked her watch. "Amethyst, it's getting late. You leave early tomorrow morning."

"Good point. Good night, Mom."

"'Night, Amethyst. Sweet dreams."

Julia closed the door behind her and Amethyst went to sleep with very sweet dreams indeed.

What do you all think about Amethyst so far? Will the two girls get along?
