APIFantasy presents to you the ultimate test of Immortals, now that 2021 is coming to an end! Explore the Chinese Zodiac and Asian Fantasy tropes with this year's event: The Immortals' Conquest.

In this event, you'll be tasked with writing an Asian Fantasy inspired novella. We want to keep the momentum going from NaNoWriMo, so we figured this is the best way to help! The goal is to help you get more words in before the year ends and the Lunar New Year begins!

Each Zodiac leads to a different level of enlightenment. Choose one and begin your ascension:

1: The Rat - The Immortal Hero (Xianxia)

You're a fairy, preparing to become an Immortal. In order to gain immortality, you have to prove to the Heavenly Realm that you're ready to receive the power and the responsibility that comes with it. This can be in the form of saving the Mortal Realm from destruction, obtaining a lost artifact, or defeating a Demon Lord. How will you obtain immortality?

Note from our Profile Guide: Xianxia is a type of Chinese Fantasy that directly translates to "immortal heroes." It is influenced by Chinese mythology, Taoism, Buddhism, traditional Chinese medicine, etc. The central figure of these works are cultivators who are working towards immortality or higher ranks of immortality/divinity. These novels tend to be quite long because of the cultivation arcs.

2. The Ox - The Martial Hero (Wuxia)

You're the son of peasant farmers and have returned to discover your parents have been killed by the soldiers of a noble house. The only way you can get revenge is to become the greatest fighter in all of Asia. How will you achieve this?

Note from our Profile Guide: Wuxia is a type of Chinese Fantasy that directly translates to "martial heroes." It is influenced by martial arts, sorcery, and chivalry. Characters live by the code of xia and usually resolve problems through duels. This would be considered "low fantasy."

3. The Tiger - Hell Hath No Fury (Romance: revenge)

After being betrayed and killed by the man who was the love of your life, you receive the opportunity from the gods to return to the past to exact your revenge and reclaim everything you've lost. How will you do this?

4. The Rabbit - Lost Memories (Fantasy: amnesia)

One day you wake up with no memory and with a gut-feeling that you're somewhere that you shouldn't be. Finding a way home is difficult when you can't remember where home is. Along the way there will be memories to guide you.

5. The Dragon - The Villain Has Stolen the Male Lead! (Fantasy: villain retelling)

You're on your way to take an exam, when you suddenly get hit by a car. Believing you're dead, you wake up in the body of a villain in a webnovel! The main character is determined to make your life miserable after you've stolen the male lead. How will you change your fate as the villain?

6. The Snake - Journey Through the Center of the Netherworld (Horror/Paranormal)

You're on a quest to find a crystal that is very much needed in the underworld. You have been chosen as the one who needs to find it but spirits and demons threaten to impede your journey. How will you succeed?

7. The Horse - Rise of the Demon King (Horror/Paranormal)

You're a lesser demon in the netherworld. After the current Demon King dies, it's revealed that you're his heir. However, many demons question the legitimacy of your origins. How will you prove to them you're worthy of being their ruler?

8. The Goat - We'll Meet Again (Romance: reincarnation)

You and your love interest are immortal deities, forbidden to be together because your duties are polar opposites. A fateful visit from a being from the Demon Realm sends your souls to the Mortal Realm, stripping you of your divinity and your memories. Will you find each other again? How?

9. The Monkey - Heal Me (Historical Fantasy)

You're a doctor in an Ancient Asia setting. Your dream is becoming the best doctor in all of history, but your competitors are outshining you. One day, the God of Medicine visits you, gifting you with magical powers that will allow you to rise as a prominent doctor. Will you become the best doctor in all of Asia?

10. The Rooster - The Villain is the Main Character? (Fantasy: villain retelling)

You fall asleep one day and wake up in the body of a villain in a webnovel! Will you steal the spotlight from the main character in order to survive or will you succumb to your fate?

11. The Dog - Who Killed the Emperor? (Fantasy: murder mystery)

Set in an Ancient Asia setting, you are a scholar who recently secured a position in the Imperial Palace. When the Emperor is assassinated, it's up to you to determine who the culprit is. Will you see through the killer's plot?

12. The Pig - I'm Not a Killer (Fantasy: murder mystery)

Set in an Ancient Asia setting, you are a renowned chef throughout the country and serve the ruler. However, one day, someone who is determined to kill that ruler, manipulates your food with poison. The ruler dies instantly, but you are summoned to answer for the crimes the assassin committed. You escape your prison the day before your execution in order to prove your innocence. Will you succeed?

What is Asian Fantasy?

For a work to be classified as "Asian Fantasy," it must feature an Asian protagonist AND one of the following:

- Asian Mythology & Folklore

- Asian History

- Asian Cultural Influences

- Asian Fantasy Tropes (as shared in our Profile Guide and in this chapter)

Do I have to make a new book?

Yes. However, if your new book is a direct sequel or prequel (meaning that we have to read other books in the series to understand anything/everything), it won't be featured on our profile.

Does it have to be 20,000 words? Can I write a one-shot?

The word limit is that and not over. You're welcome to write a one-shot, but be mindful of how much you'll be able to portray in a single chapter.

Can I do a co-written story with someone?

Yes, you can! However, if you choose to publish on both your profiles, be aware that we can only add one story to our respective reading lists, not both.

Can I enter more than one entry?

No, only one entry per person.

What about Mature? Are LGBTQ+ characters allowed?

Of course! We always welcome LGBTQ+ characters and stories. Mature is allowed so long as it meets Wattpad's Content Guidelines. Stories that do not meet this won't be accepted.

How will our entries be judged?

Stories are judged on various factors, such as writing quality, originality, and the relation to our prompt. Ensure you are proofreading your works before submitting! For the sake of this contest, we will also be assessing romance, world building, and character development.

How do I submit my story for this contest?
