Korkyt, believed to be the progenitor of the Kazakhs, lived on the banks of the Syr Darya river. He visited every part of the world, but never found eternity. He feared death would soon approach him, so he spread a carpet on the water and began to swim across the Syr Darya on it, while playing the kobyz. As the birds listened to Korkyt, they stopped. The animals from Sary-Arka came to the banks of the river to listen and the river of time stopped. Even death couldn't approach him.

One day, the sage spread his carpet on the Syr Darya, whose currents raged. He played the kyui on kobyz. Fourty girls who overheard the magical sound of the kobyz ran to the sound of the music to see who was performing. Among the girls was a girl with a physical disability. Her peers laughed at her, but begged her to stay. They walked for a long time, assuming the sound of the kobyz was close, but they soon reached the hot sands of the desert of Karakum.

Only the crippled girl reached the banks of the Syr Darya. After seeing the musician who created magical melodies, she gave up her life. This legend leaves an impact on Kazakh lands as thirty-nine hills survived among the dunes, while the place of death of the crippled girl remains near the Syr Darya.
