After Genya shot off Dansu head killing him Dansu basically manipulated Genya into eating more of his fading body, due to him noticing how Geny basically looked starved. Genya ate more and basically became a temporary rampaging demon. Dansu in the after life basically haunted Genya, condemning him but also praising him for 'punishing himself correctly'. "You know I had a friend who did this to me. Blamed me for his mother death...now I was hurt...you did good just like him. Your brother deserves better." Poor Genya was basically losing humanity
