I use "tutorial" loosely, it's more my drawing process plus some tips and tricks.

Here is my entry for SkyNareth's contest! I'm happy with it :)
This is my Halloween costume too :D I love it sm

And here I shall go through the process of how I drew this!

Do not use these sketches to trace or I will hunt you down ;)

I start with the head, because that's what determines the rest of the body. Symmetry tool so that it's centered.

Proportions note: The head is a great way to measure proportions. The shoulders are half a head wider than the head, and the average adult is about 7.5 heads tall. Tweens and young teens are around 6.5 heads, children around 6 are 6 heads, and infants are four heads. I use these loosely, more as a reference than anything.

Sketch and lineart sketch (which is not at all necessary, I just like to use it).

Note the sketch to lineart doesn't have to be conform, I will change whatever depending on how I feel like the drawing's turning out as I go.

People tend to have trouble with hands, so here's a close-up of the parts. I don't always trace it colorful like this, it's just so you can see.

Lineart! For this specific drawing I used the technical pen, but it really depends. I like to symbolize the mood of the drawing through the lineart. For cleaner art I use technical pen, for sketchy, darker/psychological-type drawings I use the 6B pencil (the same brush I used for sketching). If I'm lazy I'll do syrup brush and color fill too, haha.

This part isn't always done, I just prefer to do it for cleaner art (when I'm not using syrup brush. Syrup's a bit of a more solid brush, so there's not as many messy blank spots between the lines and the color when I color fill there). Basically I changed the background to not white (dull red is one I tend to use, it contrasts enough from other colors I use that i can see) and traced underneath the lineart with the syrup brush, then fill it in until the drawing is white.

Color! I clip layers to the white mass underneath the lineart to keep within the lines, then go crazy. With eyes I like to gradate the color to a lighter color at the bottom of the iris, and I also fade the hair to a darker color as well.

Shading! For this one I use syrup brush on a layer with a lower opacity, make empty "bubbles" where lighting highlights would be, then fill the canvas and clip the layer to the coloring. I like using black, but other colors work too so long as they're dark. I copy the layer and slightly Gaussian blur it, then I copy it again  and blur it more.

Lighting! Whatever the color is, I use the soft blend brush to make a gradation across the drawing (clipped to the thing being highlighted, in this instance Addie). Then I use the overlay blend mode, and viola you got lighting

Bonus eye highlights :3 I use white, then blur it, bloom it, and overlay it. Now you got eye highlights

And then background. Nothing special there, do it how ya want.

And there ya have it, the full drawing process I go through :D

Goodbye
