Also sneak peak into my new pfp 👌 I won't use this evening style of shading for it but you get the idea :P

I'm on procreate and mainly using the airbrush and pen ink brushes. I'm sure there's similar brushes on different apps 👀 if not, improv is your best friend

⚠️First and foremost⚠️
Know where ur light source is coming from, whether from the left, right, up, down, front, behind. This tutorial will show light coming from behind!!

(Tutorial is spelt wrong cuz... u n d e r t a l e h a h a h a h a)

Here's my son Bri, he'll be our testing dummy lol (also really happy w/ this lineart wat)

1) This is base color and lineart, always nice to have when starting to shade ((:

2) since I'm doing evening shading I went for a more dramatic orange. You can pick whatever warm color u like really

Clip it (it is called clipping mask in procreate)to ur entire color base. It looks weird but we'll fix it like, in the next step XD

Now overlays!!

3) First! Set the opacity down to like 50-60%. Then set the orange layer to the overlay multiply. Looks cool yeah?

4) light source is from behind, so I lightly erase the outer edges of the orange layer. You can blend the edges or not, up to you 👁👁

(Also I erased the orange on the eye cuz I think it pops out more ((: )

5) now the fun part ((: with a yellow on a new layer, I use pastel, line the edges where you kinda erased the orange. Then add the overlay add. This will give u that bright, shiny effect 🙃

6) Blend!! Like the sun is shining from behind and making the hair and skin brighter ☀️

7) it looks bad and muddy now but wait! You need shadow to contrast with the bright accents of the light

8) With the opacity at about 50-60% again, set the overlay at literally overlay

The difference :0 subtle but nice

9) Background! :D
With alpha lock you can draw just within whatever you drew, like the white circle

10) I did clouds ((: w/ orange cuz s u n s e t
or very early morning 🌅🌄🌇

⚠️Remember⚠️know where your light source is coming from and what setting your bg or character is in, whether day, night, foggy, a void, etc and use colors appropriate to that scenario 🙃
