"Is bus here?" Scout whined, bouncing on her heels as she swiped the cloth of the sleeve of her jacket over her beaded forehead once again. It was a bright day with the sun beating down their heads, but despite that, Scout had her hood flipped over her head to hide her ears.

"No, sweetie- just a few more minutes I swear," Lenny replied, rubbing her shoulder reassuringly before tugging down the thin sleeve of her long-sleeve down.

"But it so hot, Len!" Scout continued to complain, hugging Lenny's arm to her body and through the cloth, she could feel the sweat seep into it and stick onto her skin. "Can me take off sweater? It making I hot."

"No," Lenny replied bluntly after a couple seconds, as if summoning the willpower to deny Scout something. She gave an exaggerated sigh, gripping her arm tighter as she dug her face in further as if using the sleeve to wipe all the sweat and face oil off her face, which made Lenny almost want to rip her arm away in a state of disgust, but she couldn't bring herself to in fear Scout would cry and whine again, but at a more louder and annoying rate. Lenny gave a sigh herself for being such a doormat to her character, though this was was more small and quiet, and shielded her eyes with a hand, squinting down the road to see if there was any indication of the bus. Seeing the rough outline of what looked to be the front of the bus, she let out a sigh of relief and tugged lightly at Scout's hoodie, getting her attention. "Hey honey, the bus is literally right there. Get ready."

"Holy Cheerios, really?" Scout exclaimed, detaching herself from Lenny's arm and jumping up in joy, clapping her hands happily. Lenny laughed in amusement, the scene a definite sight for sore eyes. "I finally can out the hot Sun!"

"Scout, sweetie, it should be 'can be out of the hot Sun,' not 'out the hot Sun,'" Lenny remarked softly, stifling a laugh. With the way Scout had phrased it, it had sounded as if she was going to reveal that the Sun was gay or something. Scout paid no heed to what Lenny had said, continuing to jump up and down excitedly as if she hadn't said anything. Lenny began to tug at the hem of her shirt, a new anxiety sinking into her mind. The only reason she had even brough Scout along to go to school with her was because she didn't in any way trust that nothing was going to happen. She would rather take her chances with Scout by her side than she being home along and Lenny having to take all the blame for it when she got back. She shook her head, forcing herself to stop picking at the edge of the cloth- the main focus (as well as worry) as of right now was figuring out how to get Scout beyond the gates of her school; anything past that would practically be a miracle.

"Len, are we going to get on the bus?" Scout asked in a whiny voice, nearly soubding annoyed that she had spaced off for a minute. Lenny blinked, as if just realizing that the bus had just arrived, and smiled nearly tiredly, nodding before grasping her hand. Tugging it gently, Lenny climbed onto the steps carefully, Scout following soon after as they wandered towards the back of the bus for a seat. Sitting down with Scout getting the window seat, Lenny did her best to stay awake to make sure Scout didn't do anything terrible like yell something at the top of her lung and a half. Despite her attempts, she began to nod off until Scout vigorously began to shake her arm, innocent magenta eyes big and round like a doe. Lenny hummed a "hmm" to let her know she was listening ad she tiredly rubbed her eyes, stifling a yawn.

"Scout bored. Can Len tell story to help?" Scout asked timidly, as if she was expecting her to say no, but Lenny smiled and nodded, the girl in turn breaking into a large toothy smile.

"Alright," she started, racking her brain quickly for a story that wasn't too horrific, "so once there was a little girl who had a red cloak and-"

"Ew, why red?" Scout interrupted, her face turning unto a frown. Lenny blinked at her, not understanding what was so wrong about it and was about go on until she started to say something else. "Make it pink!"

Lenny huffed, but decided to comply to her demand since the color of her cloak wouldn't change anything by much. "Alright- so once there was a little girl who had a pink cloak. Her grandma was sick so her mother sent her off to her house with a basket of goodies. On the way there, a wolf-"

"Wolf scary!" Scout yelped, interrupting once more. Lenny felt the urge to glare at her in annoyance but settled on just shutting her eyes and pinching the bridge of her nose.

"Yes, I know the wolf is scary, sweetie, but that's why it's in the story," Lenny explained, trying to keep her voice even. Scout huffe out a breath and stubbornly crossed her arms.

"No wolf! Make it duck! Duck is not scary," Scout argued. Lenny held in a groan, feeling herself want to scream. She cast a hopeful glance outside the window and nearly let out an exasperated sigh of relief.

"Oh thank the Lord, we're finally here."
