after waiting outside her door, olivia came out from the house in a new wardrobe.

tattered overalls, a shirt filled with the colors of the rainbow and her hair pulled into two side braids encapsulated my vision.

she walked down the stairs and grabbed the container full of paints, then looked up at me with a confused face.

"where's the paint brush- oh."

i laugh.

"you can't experience the feelings of painting unless your finger painting!"

she rolled her eyes and followed me as we walked to the park.

when we arrived at the park, i set up our easels and distributed the colors of paint evenly between us.

"what do i paint?"

i dip my two fingers into yellow and smile.

"whatever you feel."

olivia hesitates and reluctantly reaches for the black and red paint.

my heart thumps in the palm of my hands as i slide my fingers across the rough canvas, not paying attention to what i'm doing.

with her fingers, she divides her canvas into two sides. the first side is dark with black and red.

through the paint splatters of gray, i can see the rough outline of a girl surrounded by words that i can't manage to make out.

once she's done the dark side, she looks at me from her peripheral vision and laughs looking at my painting.

"i love your squiggle."

i blush.

she continues to create a masterpiece almost as beautiful as her with bright colors such as green, blue, pink and yellow.

instead of one person, she's drawn two side by side in front of a sun.

it takes me a moment to recognize who the second person is, but once i know, i grin.

it's me.
