Today I'll be talking to JohanLiebert33, the thriller author of The Saga Of Mafiaso and Monster: The Devil Came Back Again. We discussed crime thrillers, mafias, why you should be proud of your stories, and more! Read our interview below!

TWA: You can refer to me as The Word Artist or TWA. I'll refer to you as Johan, then.

So, would you mind telling me and the reader a bit about yourself? It can be as personal as you wish, or just your books.

Johan: Nice to meet u TWA

I'm 16 years old simple teen guy. I'm into thriller, horror and dark stuff. I'm anime, kdrama, series and movie lover.I mostly spend times in watching series and writing books. Mostly I write dark fiction with thriller elements such as crime world or killer stuff.

I'm also animal lover and spend times with my rabbits too. I like traveling and foodie type person and like to make friends with similar interests

TWA: I love food too!

So you enjoy writing thrillers?

Johan: Yes I really enjoy and my books contain brutal death scenes alot

TWA: It seems like you really like crime fiction and thrillers.

Let's talk about reading. What's your favourite book? Why do you like it?

Johan: There are two books Songs of ice and fire and Mountain of the moon.I love Songs of ice and fire cause it had interesting political characters and very well written side characters. But at first it was confusing so I watched Game of thrones (show based on this book) and read it together and enjoyed it alot. There are many subplots and side characters which makes it interesting.

I like Mountain of the moon cause it was my 1st matured book which I read in 6th grade and this book focus on a explorer named Shankar who went to Africa for job but he meets a guy named Alvarez and both goes on journey to find a mystical Mountain and book showed their Character relation in friendly manner and I was attached to them and it had some intense scenes.

TWA: Interesting. 

Do you read, like crime fiction or thrillers to gain inspiration for your books?

Johan: I would love to and I tried reading crime fiction in wattpad cause I don't have money to buy books from Amazon. I tried to find mafia type books in wattpad for inspiration but most of them has cliche plots where male lead and female lead are enemies then lover or mafia kidnap a girl for obsession or cliche force marriage elements.Thats why i watch series based on things which I want to write and I get inspiration from them

TWA: So you turned to televisions series as you thought Wattpad plots were not original enough. 

What's your favourite television series?

Johan: Hehe it's a tough question But there are many series. I'll say Narcos/Peaky blinders is my fav in mafia genre (breaking bad is great too)And Attack on titan series is my most favorite cause of storyline. You series is fav in dark romance genre.

Among these, Attack on titan and Narcos is my most fav. I still listen to opening of Narcos and think I'm medelin cartel

TWA: I see. 

Let's talk about your works. Would you mind explaining what Monster: The devil came back again is about?

Johan: It's about a serial killer who caused Chaos at night in his young age, everyone was terrified and it was hard to catch him but someone leaked his location so male lead of story Detective Brian caught him and put him in jail but 5 years later he escaped from prison and decided to play some mind games with that Detective and more ruthless murders started to happen so this time Detective wants to catch him again and tries to find out who he actually is and mysterious behind all of these disturbing dark moments. This book shows brutality, corruption in name of religious, bullying, harassment and many more

TWA: The mystery seems to be very intriguing! 

What inspired you to write this story?

Johan: When I thought about this book's plot then nothing particularly inspired me but I'll say my friend AbhineetKr's book 5 bombs inspired me and Antagonist of that book was thrilling so I wanted to write something like his book so I thought about Monster. But later some past events of life like school bullying, betrayal these parts inspired me to set up this story. And I was inspired from few of my friends venting of their life.

TWA: Ooh! 

What motivated you to write this story?

Johan: My friend Abhineet, he really liked the book and concept and some of my readers liked it and it was my first serial killer based book.Mostly I was into mafia genre but I thought to cross my boundary and write serial killer type book and my friends were impressed so this thing motivated me. But now I'm facing writers block lol

TWA: You could try to cure it by doing a plot twist :) 

Why are you proud of this story?

Johan: Because this story shows many real life dark topics and there are many serial killers in it and final arc of this book will be heart touching. And most of the people I met aren't proud of their stories, they just write for views and attention. If their books don't get views and attention then they delete it. Every artists should take their work seriously and be proud of their work cause those works has personal touch and their own creativity. Doesn't matter if they get views or not, even 200 views are still ok but book should be good and unique

I can cure it with twists but that twists should be well planned and should have impact on upcoming chapters otherwise people will think that twist was unnecessary. So I'm working on twists and build up of story

TWA: I agree with everything you just said. Especially that last two paragraphs. One should always be proud of their work. 

Moving on, you have another book, The Saga of Mafioso. Would you mind giving an explanation on what this story is about?

Johan: The Saga of Mafioso is my first book and it is based on a fictional city named Harran which is known as most dangerous city cause crimes happen at any corner of city. I'll try to explain plot without giving much spoiler. 

Plot is about Angelo a hard working man works in a office but he gets paid less and live alone with his mother but 1 day he heard a news and news was his mother faced a car accident so that's why she ended up in hospital but Angelo needed lots of money to save his mother. But the amount of money he had wasn't enough so he sold his car, house and expenses to earn money but things doesn't go well cause someone hacked his bank account and stole his money. So because of these Angelo loses hope but he sees a path which leads him to underworld crime. Angelo went to underworld path and earned money by street fighting and a powerful mafia family known as Garcia family was impressed by Angelo's skill and Angelo didn't want to work in illegal way but things didn't go well when he realized he needs more money to have better life. He gets involve with mafia family and started to work for most powerful and dangerous mafia James García and eventually Angelo becomes his one and only friend. But things dont go well when enemies and politics gets between James and happiness so James uses his power to save his family and destroy their enemies. Angelo tries his best in crime world to have rich life like others. 

Story is action packed thriller with lots of twists, violence and antagonists. And it doesn't have cliché romance or any kind of cliches content which most wattpad mafia book shows. It focuses on characters, crime world, war between mafias etc etc

TWA: That sounds very edge-of-your-seat! 

What inspired you to write this?

Johan: I was heavily inspired by a mafia movie named Godfather and I watched an anime named 91 days and it was amazing so I thought to write my own mafia story like them with powerful characters.When I starred writing it, story wasn't clear properly and I had different endings in mind but I watched lots of mafia series and movies like Breaking bad, Peaky blinders, John wick and they helped me to understand how mafia works and story kept developing as I started writing it more.Godfather, 91 days and an Indian movie named Saaho inspired me alot to write action thriller story.

TWA: So it's like you're researching how the mafia works. 

What powerful characters are featured? What are their characteristics and values?

Johan: The characters in it have their personal interests like some do for family and some do for revenge and some do these for business or some are forced into all of these. 

James Garcia is powerful character. He is adopted son of Garcia family and he is known as dangerous mafia cause of his intelligence and strategy. He uses his intelligence and power to destroy his enemies to protect his loved ones, if someone dares to harm his friend and family then that person face worst death by James. James is also emotional person who faced lots of tragedy in past and his past is brutal. I can't spoil it, you have to read whole story to understand who he actually is. 

Pastric souvanno is featured as side character but he is so powerful and secret mafia. He have powerful connections with underworld people, he provide sources to mafias for smuggling stuff and he is there to help Garcia family cause of past family connection. 

Joel is a police officer who is burning with fire of revenge after he saw his family dying in critical issues caused by mafia. He was lawful officer before but after that he became angry, desperate person drowning with revenge and he is determined to destroy mafia families so that other innocent people won't face cruelty. Joel did many mistakes which led his mates to face consequences still he never give up. 

Angelo was poor man who wanted simple normal life but he is forced to choose wrong path in order to have good life. Angelo is physically strong and his life changed after joining criminal life, he is normal person but when he becomes angry. He turns into brutal chaotic person who can murder his target brutally.

Tony is another powerful character who is young son of Garcia family but he is selfish, cruel, liar, greedy, psycho type person with monstrous personality. He can do anything for business including killing innocent people without caring a lil bit. He don't care about anyone, all he cares about money and business. He is the person filled with hatred.

TWA: James and Joel sound very realistic. 

What motivated you to write this story?

Johan: Yes they're realistic and all characters has grey shades. Even positive characters do mistakes which cause problems. My friend Abhineet motivated me to write, when I joined wattpad I had no idea about this app. I just made a book cover and started writing this story, that time I had 0 followers, Abhineet was only one who used to read chapters of this story and helped me with his feedback. So I kept writing it for him and for myself and did many changes and improvements slowly

I faced writers block alot but managed to complete the story properly. Only problem is that grammatical errors in it cause it was my 1st story and I was nervous and English is not my 1st language so grammatical error is problem in it. I'll hire editor for this book soon. And there are more powerful characters along with Tony, James, Joel etc. That's why I'm planning on making spin off book related to saga of mafioso universe and I'll expand this universe with more books on different characters just like Marvel and DC comic universe.

TWA: That's very true.That's so nice of him. Shout-out to AbhineetKr !!! 

Moving on, you would like to discuss about your future works and ideas. What are they?

Johan: Sure, I'm working on a romance-thriller book named Glass of heart which will be about a creepy stalker who wants to ruin life of a girl who cheated on him and he murders people who are close to her. (Right now developing story in mind) 

A science fiction book named Sector, it will be about earth got destroyed completely but humans managed to live in a planet and they named it Sector and Sector was divided into 5 parts and different government leads all these parts so story shows conflict and politics between them. This one is my idea but it's difficult to write, maybe I'll write it in future with help of science fiction lover. 

Another idea I have is a book named 'March of freedom', it's about dictator ship and poor people being slave to cruel government so they want freedom. 

Horror-fantasy book 'I see red' will be published soon and it will be about a teenager who have supernatural abilities related to blood but somehow he got exposed and he gets involve with cruel people who holds supernatural abilities like him and he wants to survive between them. 

Darkness among us (extended version) is my upcoming future work which will be sequel of Saga of mafioso with different ending cause original sequel had bad ending so working on extended version with new ending.  

'Silrica : city of crime' is spin off book of Saga of mafioso. It will show more powerful characters related to same universe. 

'The story' it will be about a wattpad writer who wants to write something thrilling but facing writer's block so a serial killer helps him to write by making real life murderous scenarios but things slowly turns intense (this work is not confirmed and it's my idea only)

Action story named 'Brother'. It will be about a elder bro who allowed his sister to go on a date but she was raped brutally and tortured so he decides to ruin those people's life for what they did with his sister.

Last idea is 'Sparkles of cinema' it will be about a film director who wants to make a movie but he faces dark side of movie industry. This is also my idea 

TWA: You seem to have a ton of ideas! Do follow JohanLiebert33 if any of these seem interesting! 

Let's talk about your first supporters. Other than Abhineet, are there any other loyal readers of yours you would like to thank?

Johan: Yes there are QuestionBank15 willbebiased Kathy_Marwin _soule_mate_0000_ gmeowpie and I would love to thank them. Others just follow me and chat with me, they didn't read my book. But I wanna thank Arzryan for being great wattpad friend and Sahni_2007 for being my 1st wattpad friend till now.

You would also like to discuss about what things you show in your stories. Apart from mafia, do you have any other things you show in your stories?

Johan: I show school bullying and lots of psychological and dark stuff. For example Patient 39 is a short story which showed dream-reality concept, Last guest showed a man mistakenly became guest of serial killer, Don't forget is my 1st short story showed real life genocide. I always try to show different dark stuff. Corruption, different characters with unique personalities and main character in my stories are always not very cool or badass. Main characters in my stories do mistakes and has psychological problems too.

I also try to focus on antagonists and try to make antagonists intense and focus on side characters too. Most authors I've met write stories to escape from reality and they put less effort in dark stuff and make it brighter and romantic. The World I present in my stories are always darker, cruel and characters suffer from things and faces bad situations. Plot twists in my stories plays huge role, I try to come up with better twists so that it will put impact on upcoming chapters

TWA: That sounds interesting!I do have two more questions for you: 

1. What makes your writing unique? 

2. What's one piece of advice you would give to any aspiring authors?

Johan: I guess characters make my writing unique cause of their nature, mysterious elements and backstory. I guess I said this many times lol don't mind. Some writers I met, their stories has those cliche plot and can't write serious stories properly and they forcefully add twists to make readers shock (I'm not insulting them) my stories has serious tone and not some elements are not predictable much. Twists in my stories makes sense sometimes because reason behind those twists get mentioned at starting and I connect some twists with ending to make good conclusions and I don't glorify and romanticize bad stuff. People I met romanticize Stockholm syndrome or harassment. I don't do these. I think you all saw bad boy X good girl, mafia being obsessed with girl, girl falling for kidnapper type concept alot and most of them show sexual harassment type stuff but romanticize them. For example mafia harassing a girl but she falls for him or girl being bullied by bad boy but falls for each other and obsessed plots alot. Nowadays writers don't think about what they're showing, they just write these stories and it's being cliche alot and wattpad being filled with them. New authors do these for followers too (I witnessed some) also it putting bad influence on new teenagers in wattpad. Now instead of seeing emotional and healthy relationship like fault in our stars, we see toxic and sexual relationship like 365 days in wattpad alot. Also these negative things ruined great genres. If I give example then mafia is famous in wattpad but mafia genres are perfect in thriller with amazing political characters but nowadays wattpad authors write book based on this genre without any research and they write it with sexual harassment and toxic obsession relationship.

That's why I don't think about followers, I try to come up with unique ideas and dark emotional characters. If I show mafia then readers should expect to see actual mafia stuff realistically such as killings, making strategies against enemies, family rivalry, politics instead of mafia being discord simp. If I show vampire concept then readers should expect to see vampire killing human for blood, horror world with dark characters.

I want to give few advices. If you face writers block then take a break, watch some series or movies like your book so that you can get ideas from them and develop story in your mind properly. Don't hurry up cause you might face writer block if you rush things or you might reboot your story again and it will ruin your hard work. If you wanna write something based on mafia or God or something like that then research about it properly. I've seen people write stories without proper research and development just for views. So don't do this, take your time and do research. I did research for mafia and developed story that's why I wrote story properly and happy with how things came out. Right now facing writer's block on Monster book, so I'm developing the story in mind and researching about killers. After monster, I'll do research about space for science fiction story. Also don't write cliche stuff for few followers. Use your own creativity and understand your own creativity, you don't have to force yourself into writing something which doesn't suit your style. It might ruin your creativity. I write dark fiction so for few followers I can't write comedy and bright story cause I know dark style suits me and if I write something which doesn't match my style then it will get ruined with bad writing and I won't be proud of that book. So thing is understand what suits you and suits you and try to be proud of your work. This is important, if someone criticize mistakes in your book then don't be rude and say "I didn't ask your opinion". Our books can't be 100% perfect but if you listen to your readers and communicate with them, take suggestions from them then your book will improve alot. If your books has mistakes then don't feel offended, take suggestions from your readers and if you feel their suggestion is good then improve your story with it. Don't mix criticism with hate. Both are different. Sorry for essay type paragraphs. I write alot and it became my habit
