AN ALPINE AFFAIR

Part: vier

Next morning, Avni and Neil woke up very early and packed their entire luggage. They made sure that they had packed all their woolens in a handy bag because today they were going to go on glaciers and the weather would be very cold, as compared to the bliss here at Zurich. They got ready quickly and went to the hotel's restaurant for a proper continental breakfast.

Neil just couldn't control gorging on to the fluffy pancakes with maple syrup. Avni laughed at his twinkling eyes on seeing the pancake and said while tapping her fingers on the table, " itne pyaar se to tum mujhe bhi nahi dekhte neil,"

To which he replied, mouth still full of pancake " accha"; he took a big gulp and placed a small piece on his fork lifted it up to Avni's face and said, " fir bhi wifey tumhare saath share kar raha hu".

She laughed at him further.

they finished their breakfast and checked out of the hotel. They took a taxi to the Zurich main station and got on the superfast bullet train to Interlaken.

Once, inside the train avni ran down the itinerary with him, " neil, aaj ka din bohot hectic hai, hume itni saari cheeze dekhni hai and samay bohot kam hai, pehle hum hotel me check in karke seedha beatus caves jayenge, fir lake brienz cruise, then to jungfraujoch glaciers, she said happily".

"aur mera river rafting and rappelling? Wo kaha hai?" neil asked.

"ha baba, tumhate adventure plans uske baad", she said.

Interlaken was about 2.5 hrs from Zurich. Once they reached Interlaken, they spent no time at the hotel at all. Placed their luggage in the lobby itself, and requested the bell boy to take it to their room.They donned on all their warm clothes, took extra ones too and left.

Avni was looking rather cute, with her hair flowing out beneath a woolen beanie cap and woolen hand gloves and a faux fur coat reaching her thighs, over her black comfy slacks. While neil as always looked dashing with a similar black coat and glares adorning his face.

They first went to the saint beatus caves. They saw the caves at all its glory. Two big streams were flowing from the mouth of the caves. They explored the insides of the mystic caves and heard the legend of the monk and the dragon. This hardly took them about half an hour.

Then they went for their lunch date, in the brienz lake cruise. The sitting itself was quite romantic.They were seated across a window on a cruise which was surrounded by crystal blue lake on all four sides, which itself was surrounded by gigantic mountains. They gorged on a variety of delicacies and ended their meal with a decadent chocolate fondue with assortment of fresh berries.

Then, they walked to the cruise deck, and here they started talking to another couple. This other lady, could not stop talking about this untapped little village, about an hour from the station and how she had never seen a better view of the mountains.

Avni's eyes were twinkling just like Neil's had when he was eating the pancake and she turned to neil and pleaded with her eyes, " please yaha chale"?

He chuckled at her child like innocence, and said," mujhe koi problem nahi hai, agar tum apni itinerary change karne ko taiyar ho toh".

She happily thanked him and confirmed once again, " par tumhara river rafting and adventure? "

To this he replied, "small impromptu adventures with you beat that any day" and pulled her already red cheek.

Once, they reached the port they took a train to Dorf and from their they boarded a cogwheel train ( it runs on a steam engine and is small and cute). The cogwheel was vey slow but they enjoyed every moment of the ride as it was very scenic. They could see little villages and how the locals lived in the hearts of these villages, away from the hustle bustle of the city.

When they got down in habkern, the lady at the ticket counter was rather surprised to see tourists at this part. It was very small, close knit place with not more than 50 families,where no one came and had no hotels or Lodges for tourists. She informed them that and also the fact that last cogwheel to dorf left at 5:00pm sharp, and that they better make a hasty return.

Neil looked at avni with raised eyebrows, and she replied " abhi bas 2 baje hai neil, hum wapas aa jayenge, chalo to! Bhul gaye, adventure adventure. "

They hiked up the little hill, talking,sometimes chasing each other and at other times holding hands. They came across a group of local kids playing football. Neil showed them a few tricks with the ball and avni happily chatted with them.

With a happy smiles, they continued their hike, to the top of the hill. When they reached the top of the hill, avni took a deep breath. The kind lady on the cruise was correct. It was BREATH TAKING.

They sat down on a little stone and enjoyed the view in front. Transparent, luminous lake serene and quiet, surrounded on all sides with lush green mountains, snow capped albeit, and little red topped houses seen in distance. It was as if a picture was painted on this tranquil spot. Peaceful.

Avni turned her head towards neil and kissed him with all the passion she could muster, to commemorate this day in her mind. They sat like that, with neils hand on her shoulder, and she leaning into him,silently, watching the lake in front of them and hearing the birds chirp. No words spoken.

Neither of them was ready to leave the place. Enthralled. After what felt like an eternity, neil broke the silence and said a single word, "chalein".

To which avni simply stood up, dusted the back of her coat, turned once again to the view, and filled her eyes with it. Then she held neils hand ready to go back.
