Chapter 62

The new day seemed more of a challenge for everyone as many of the senior doctors were by now not aware about the sudden change in the schedule and also that Dr. Avni is resuming.

As usual Avni tried to be confident and started towards the hospital. Neela had already left considering the board issues.

She was about to leave the house when there came a person in full swag with a sports bike. As usual being the overdramatic hero , he remove the helmet and tried easing the creased hairs. Avni just rolled her eyes and started to sit on the bike.

Avni- (in a bit irritated way) well!! I can say a good morning. And let's move I am already late here.

Karan- like I made a dashing entry, got a sports bike and all I get is good morning? Have you gone crazy?

Avni-to be honest , I am very much sane just that your so called timing of showing herogiri is wrong. You suck at your showoff bro!!

Karan- ouch!! That's interesting, nevermind you will never get the whole point of someone coming on bike and trying to get a ride to someone. Girls of your age would be so crazy even if I just glanced at her.

Avni-( sighs) filhal I need to reach hospital. Shall we leave?

Karan- sure!! 

With that he started to ride the bike. On the way at a signal he saw a girl along with some kids playing some game. He was just admiring her...

There she was carefree playing marbles with the kids, in semi- boyish outfits.

Avni who was just looking at something looked at the direction of his friend who seemed interested in the scene rather than the signal.

Avni quickly pushed him a bit which landed him back to earth.

Karan - kya hai?

Avni- vohi to kya hai? Udhar kya dekh rha hai? Let's move I am already getting late , ab chalega?

Karan- Haan to let's go meine kaunsa idhar ghar basana hai?

With that both left to the hospital. As the board were already informed about why Avni was on leave and now suddenly joining as per Neela , no one had any questions about her joining uncalled.

She was been welcomed warmly by the staff and so the patients. Everyone could see some changes in her psyche but no one had the heart to ask and disappoint her.

Today as it was the first day again, she was over excited and met almost all the patients she knew. Obviously she could not miss to meet her so called boyfriend!!

She was sitting there relaxing with the kids in the ward when landed dia and Dr. Neil on round up for the patients.

Looking at Avni there, Neil had a smile and also he had guessed it somewhere that she will be here off all. But someone was not at all happy with her presence.

Dia- (smiling) hey Avni!! What a pleasant surprise. But you know what we are on rounds and secondly you are here without any intimation and also everyone is out of order ....

I would like to inform or rather make this a point that from next time you need to meet them , please inform me once so I will be prepared for the chaos here and will see if I can allow you here! I hope you will not mind?

Mowgli- well why will she not? And she is my gf for your kind information and this crowd here you say as chaos is my friends family. If one member from family is allowed and I allow my gf being here , first you should not be so unhappy of that and secondly are you jealous by any chance?

Avni just rolled her eyes by looking at Mowgli's mood and also the mess he will not create and so the drama of dia on her first day!! What a perfect first day she thought closing her eyes.

Neil enjoyed the conversation which was more of Mowgli's fierceness on dia. Also how can he forget to see Avni and her expressions. He knew by now that she will roll her eyes and also will be thinking what a first day it is.

Dia- she is your gf? And since when? And she is so big plus she is working here and that means she has some other work and she cannot stroll as she too has some patients right?

(Getting hyper)

Mowgli- whatever you say , she is my gf. Next is that by now I know that you are jealous of me and my gf. Vaise you must be as you know not all can be fond of you as people are of my gf!! What say gf?(winking at Avni)

Avni-(smiles) enough of your drama. Dia next time I will inform before coming and also the patients I had are already monitored so thought to meet them here. But let me settle them so that you and sir can continue the round ups!?

Dia- whatever? But yes since you have done your job does not mean that you create a playschool here. Just look at them!! And also for your information in your absence the hospital was much more than being civil. I want you to please try to keep the same which I know for you is bit difficult. But after lots of efforts we are able to supervise them without this being a fish market and so hope you too will maintain the same .

Neil-(composes himself) enough dia! Let's complete the round up. I actually don't have time for your talks. Also let them be as they are kids , they are meant to be like this , isn't it?

Dia was left speechless. She had expected to get Avni yelled on her first day but it was vice a versa. She quietly started to brief the summary for the patients for Neil.

Avni just settled the others and was about to leave the ward when she heard Mowgli.

Mowgli- haay ab jaoge aur palat ke dekhoge bhi nhi ki ye bf theek hai bhi ki nhi???

Avni had a smile on her face and turned to look at him.

Avni- (folds her hand) hogya? Ab rest and we will meet tomorrow. Bye.

Neil saw the banter between both and had a small smile on the face. He was happy to see her moving ahead leaving things in past.

Dia also saw them speaking but she was least interested and so she tried her all time favourite which was to Impress Neil.

Neil post looking at them left. Dia went towards the locker room as she completed her duty and Neil headed towards the canteen to grab a coffee. He went there and saw Avni there all alone having some notes in hand and she was completely engrossed in them. He took a coffee and sat beside her  as there was no place other than that.

She was yet not aware as she was reading something.

Neil-( sarcastic) not bad! First day and researches on cancer!!

Avni then realised that he was on the table.

Avni-( shocked) you!? Here? And when?

Neil-(laughs) yes it's me! Second this hospital I work here and when you were reading your notes then.  I was gonna ask for permission before sitting but then you were busy so sat. Shall I switch?

Avni-(coming out of shock) are no ! It's fine. I was just into reading so did not realized you here and so...

Neil- got it but seriously if you don't mind can I sit? And also what you are reading seems interesting.

Avni- only if you agree to keep quiet and let me read things properly. 

Neil agreed and he was drinking his coffee when he saw the section which she was reading. 

Neil- that is the biograph and synopsis of the ailment right?

Avni- (looks up from the book) yes. They have found something new but that remains in initial phase and guess what if they are succeeding in the trials , they can literally save the people with severe cancer stages as well.

Neil-(sipping again) agreed ! But there are a few complications on the aid as well. If they work upon the marrow and successful pull that up, still there are high chances that they might cause the issues with other vital organs with the amount of dosages they plan to use. This is yet in the initial phase and so they will have ample time to undermine any risks and symptoms this treatment gets them.

Avni- but still if they are able to manage this probably we can give a chance of life to many who still can go ahead.

Neil- well! It's too soon for that but yes let's hope that they get some good results with this. As many have kept the eyes on this .

With that they started to discuss the topic and soon it was Mitali who was supposed to be joining Avni for coffee but the way she saw both engrossed into some topic. She went there and said.

Mitali- OMG!! Is this the great Dr. Neil out of cave and here in this busiest area with chirping chaos around ?

Neil was looking at her with how mean eyes. While Avni liked the intro.

Mitali- no seriously is he here out with you and off all to make me faint chit chatting with you ? So unlike Neil. Baat kya hai Neil and Avni. Had I missed something which I should be aware about?

Avni- mitali it's nothing yaar... Miracles happens (winking at her)

Mitali-( surprised face) no but seriously is he here talking with you? Kyunki jab tak I know you both have combination of chemical!! Unlike everytime you both didn't even for once fought? Too much to digest.

Neil who felt all the more embarrassed and so he said.

Neil- mitali !! I am also a human being and I never upfrontly fight with anyone until she came. Now it seems that it's not my issue but rather someone who always creates a drama to get yelled at.

Avni- and not again(rolls her eyes) . Here I thought that you are a changed person but I forgot that you are the great Neil Khanna. How can he be at fault??

Mitali-(slightly laughs) okay fine ! Let's not fight on this at least. Let me get a coffee . Do you all need anything?

Avni- I am all good .

Neil-( completes his coffee) I am also done and you both continue I will leave.

Mitali- it seems you have completed your rounds right?

Neil nods in yes.

Mitali- so sit and enjoy. We don't get to see this side of Neil that often.

Neil was going to protest but then he did not want to hear this side wala dailogue again and so he just nodded.

Avni was again drowned in her book. Neil saw how interested she was in that book that she looked so focused and calm. He can make out that she was trying to find something and also learn. 

That look made him wonder if she is the same Avni whom he used to consider as kid and not a doc. He was so engrossed in his thoughts that he failed to hear Avni calling him. She literally had to shake him to get his attention.

Avni- where are you so lost? I have been asking you a question since long!

Neil-( shakes his head) nothing say what is the question?

Avni- like I said that if they succeed but rather than that I want to understand if we can use the laser treatment in curing a few abdominal disorders.

Neil - that can be helpful but again the issue remains of affordability. We can try to get this to them who can afford. Not all would appreciate the idea of paying a huge amount for the issue which has an alternative to medicines.

Avni-(thinking something) yes !! You are right. Let's see what happens but yes we have a solution to some prolonged problems at least.

Neil- yep!! Good observation.

With that Mitali came and they chit chatted for sometime. Post that they left to the respective duties.

It was time to leave and Neil saw that Avni was all set to return back and since Neela had already left she was waiting for a cab and so he offered to drop her back.

Initially she denied but then post his insistence she agreed. 

In the car it was quiet but a look at Avni stated that post a lot of days she had a peaceful smile on her face. Probably he was wrong on the first day and even though he has some way to deal with patients but her way seems effortless and cool.

He was just wondering that will he be ever able to adapt her ways when it comes to deal with patients? But sliding that he just had a basic conversation with her and they reached Neela's house. She was leaving but offered a coffee.

He denied but then she said that Neela would not like that and so he agreed. They were approaching the door when she was been grabbed suddenly in a hug.

She went shocked , the look on her face could say that she was hell scared and Neil too was taken aback with sudden change as there was no one there. She finally closed her eyes and relaxed her breathing when she heard the voice. But yes her hands were still trembling. Neil did not miss the look on her face. He knew that the events were still afresh and it will take some time for her to heal with that.

Aman- Di !! I got a part time job.

He was so happy to forget that she was scared. Avni relaxed herself and closed her eyes to calm herself.

Avni- that's a news! So how was it? And why do you want to join any job at the moment?

Aman released her and said.

Aman-(hands on his hips) everything at the door?

Avni-(pretending to think) not a bad idea probably I can ask Neil to capture the video that how I beat you with the groomstick and then let's see what's your fangirls say.

Aman-(turns to see Neil) hey! I did not see you , sorry but nevermind her words and don't capture the video you know what will happen to girls who drool at me?(making puppy face)

Avni laughed and slightly hit his head and said - mad you are! Come inside now.

They entered inside and saw Neela sitting on the couch reading some magazine. Neela looked at the noises and smiled looking at them.

She asked the maid to get some water and prepare some coffee for them . Avni and Aman both went to get freshed while Neil and Neela spoke with each other.

Neil- don't worry she was occupied all day. And to be honest , I will say accha hua vo aa gyi. Pura hospital usko dekh ke khush ho gya.

Neela- vo to hai , but ye khush to thi na.

Neil- ye bas thode time ke liye aise depress hoti hai but aaj to vo full on charged and active thi jaise kuch hua hi nhi hai.

Neela- okay and sab doctors (slight laughing)

Neil- doctors bhi ekdum khush ho gye , ek do ko chodke.

Neela- Ali bhi khush hua hoga na??

Neil- usne to aaj jaise power booster khaya tha, pura din kuch na kuch kaam kia and baaki ka time Avni ke saath hi tha.

Neela-( getting a bit serious) aur tum?

Neil-( in the flow) mein bhi to......( He went quiet understanding what she was saying about)

Neela- ruk kyu gye? (Explaining him) dekho Neil I will not beat around the bush. But it is high time ya to tum ya Avni ko realise karna hoga.

Avni state me nhi hai isiliye meine kuch bola nhi but tumhe mein bolungi. Bas ye kahungi iske pehle ki der ho jaye better get that realised.

Neil went completely quiet and left before Avni could meet him. Indeed he was in a dilemma . Not that he would straight deny that he has no feeling when Avni is in and around him but can he or his love be sufficient enough to gather her scattered heart and be the one to treasure it for his lifetime?

Well that's a story for another day like always but now what mattered was till when he can escape this question?
