He squatted down on the floor, watching the guard on his shift, another minute and he would be gone.

The guard stifled a yawn, the moon shone a pale glow through the museums domed ceiling. His shift didn't end for another two hours, and he often got tired, perfect for the young theif hiding in the wildlife exhibit.

The guard moved on to the next exhibit, so the thief stealthily maneuvered in the other direction. Then he was there. The red room; it was called that because the light filtered through the giant ruby in the middle of the room, somehow turned the rooms walls red. The ruby. The largest in the world, sitting on its white pedestal. Soon it would be his.

Jordan smirked, this would be easier than he thought. He scanned the walls and ceiling for security cameras - he still needed to be careful. He saw it, a lone camera in the corner of the room, at just the right place so it could sweep the whole place. He stepped back into the hallway just as the camera swept by him. He checked on the guard as well.

He had five minutes. Only five minutes to get the ruby, and be out of the museum before the next guard walked by.

He made sure the camera was facing away and lunged underneath it - the blindspot. He sighed in relief. Jordan took out his thief kit: containing a lock pick, a hacking chip, and his computer.

He took out his computer and got on to the museums website. From there he hacked into their security files. He scanned the cameras and codes for about two minutes before shutting down camera #00137. The camera above him stopped rotating and stayed still. Done! Then a thought occurred to him... What if? He scanned he security files on the red room and sure enough, the cities most prized artifact was protected by more than just a silly camera.

Lasers. The kind in the movies, kinda cheesy he thought - but it still could stop any unaware criminal! He didn't have any hairspray to show them, but he did have an idea. It would easily alert the guard, but he could climb out of the window quickly.

He ran over to the wildlife exhibit, he took a small branch and brought it over to the corner of the hallway, outside of the red room. He took out a lighter and set it on fire, Jordan smiled as he lifted it up high near the fire alarm in the corner of the hallway. The smoke slowly drifted upwards.

He started getting nervous and checked his watch with his other hand, two minutes until the guard came back.

"Come on... Come on..." He whispered nervously.

Then it hit the alarm.

Instantly a wail came out of it - high pitched and loud. Quickly he turned and threw the branch into the wildlife exhibit, setting a small plant on fire, hoping it would throw the guard of his trail.

He ran to the red room. Being the most important room, sprinklers covered the roof. Water cascaded down around him, revealing thin red lasers. If he hit one, it would be game over. The Flarers would come and arrest him immediately, not to mention an even louder alarm going off.

He ducked under one and jumped over another. He was about to step over one when he saw one right in front of his face. Jordan got on his belly and crawled the next five meters to the pedestal. He looked around, careful of lasers, and got up. He had to move, the guard was obviously in the wildlife exhibit and would immediately come here after.

He quickly lifted the glass case off and put it on the floor. The ruby shined in front of him, for a moment he could almost ignore the high wail of the fire alarm and water streaming down his face. He picked up the large ruby, nearly the size of a  baseball and stuffed it in an open pocket of his thief kit. He hefted the large sack onto his shoulder, and prepared to crawl to the window. Then he slipped on the wet floor.

He tumbled forward, clinging to his prize, lifting one hand to stop himself. He stopped, no lasers were triggered.

"Whew..." He sighed as he stood up, breaking a thin red laser above his head.

Immediately the alarms turned tenfold, and then everything unfolded in seconds. First, the guard on watch ran into the doorway to see Jordan standing soaking wet with a very large bag in his hands. Second, the realization that the Flarers were after him chilled him to the bone. Before the guard could react, Jordan ran, using his bag as a shield; smashed through the window onto the back lawn of the museum of history. He took off running,  climbed the fence and hid in a bush as soon as he was out of sight.

He had learned that it was best to hide around the crime scene. People most often suspect that you would run farther, desperate to escape. He panted in the bush, tired from his sprinting, hoping and praying that the Flarers didn't find him.

Sirens blared through the air, he could hear the yells of Flarers and sounds of rushing cars. A few screeched to a stop, close enough to him that it made him nervous.

Then that's when it hit him. He was wet, he would leave footprints...

He burst from the bush to find himself surrounded. Flarers were all around him, many had guns pointed directly at him.

"Put your hands up Jordan Jahagran! We've got you surrounded!" A voice screamed over the sounds of sirens.

He raised his hands to the air. A few Flarers came forward and shackled him, binding his hands, and his feet. One roughly grabbed his bag and removed its contents, he then handed the ruby to a commanding officer. They practically dragged Jordan to one of their vans, and shoved him in. They jumped in after him and motioned for him to sit down on the floor, where they cuffed his legs. He wasn't escaping this time. Then the Flarers called out:

"We got him! All clear, move out!"

Then the doors closed, and his adventure began.
