"Shadow!" Amy smiled brightly as she opened the door. The dark hedgehog named Shadow stood before her, a large hoodie on.

"D-Don't say my name too loud!" Shadow looked around quickly before looking back to her. "May I come in?"

Amy giggled slightly at his actions before nodding and stepping to the side. "Of course."

Shadow walked in, closing the door behind him. He took off his hood carefully, due to his quills, before taking off the hoodie and hanging it on the coat rack. He looked back to Amy and smiled. "How has it been?"

Amy led Shadow to her living room while replying, "Oh, you know. Same as always."

Shadow took a seat on the couch, a small smirk on his muzzle. "And the blind dating?"

Amy nervously rubbed the back of her head. "Well... They're all either rude jerks or liars, so..."

Shadow frowned. "Don't look so down. It's not your fault that they're awful people."

"I know, it's just... I really want to find the one... I thought it was Sonic, and I ended up getting so obsessed with that that he only saw me as a creep. Ugh, I can't believe I was so blind! He didn't even like me!"

"At least he knows you're not. Sometimes things like that happen. It's just best to move on."

"Heh, I know... Thanks Shadow." Amy smiled to her friend before being reminded of something. "Speaking of Sonic, how did your weekly race go?"

"Oh, you know, same as always. We race, we tie, he shakes my hand..." Shadow's face was dusted a light pink.

"Aw, nothing interesting? I thought you were going to try to hint your feelings."

Shadow's face heated up more, not saying anything.

"You chickened out, didn't you?"

"Yeah..."

"Shadow!"

"I-I was going to, but he looked at me with those emerald eyes a-and I couldn't think!"

Amy sighed. "That's it. I'm going with you next week."

"W-What!? No!"

"Then actually do something."

"That's easy for you to say. You aren't faking your personality."

"Then show everyone the real you!"

Shadow brought his legs to his chest and laid his head on his knees. They seemed to have this conversation every time he visited. Truth was, the Shadow everyone else sees was not the real him. It was a mask he put on to make sure that people still saw him as the ultimate lifeform. What kind of ultimate lifeform is extremely awkward and insecure and will willingly try on a dress if asked? Yeah, he had to have this coverup.

Amy sighed as she watched her friend curl up. She couldn't understand why he couldn't show who he really was. Especially to Sonic and the others. She knows that all of them would understand. It wasn't even his fault that he was like that...

It seemed like a normal enough day; Amy was just about to go to bed, all in her fluffy pink pajamas. Suddenly, there was a knock at the door. She opened it to reveal Shadow in a dark grey hoodie and dark blue jeans. His hood was pulled down over half his eyes, though she could still see the bright red irises staring at her. She wondered why he was wearing something other than gloves and shoes.

"Shadow? What are you doing here?" She tilted her head curiously.

Shadow looked down almost nervously. "M-May I come in...?"

Amy's curiosity grew at hearing the ultimate lifeform stutter. "Uh... Yeah, sure."

Amy let Shadow in, and he quickly walked inside. She shut the door and asked why he was there.

He seemed frozen for a second before looking down nervously. "I... need your help..."

"With what?"

Shadow took a deep, shaky breath. "I am about to tell you something that you must never repeat. Ever. You must promise me this."

Amy thought about it for a second. It was rare for Shadow to talk to any of the team, especially her, so it must be important. How bad could it be? "Don't worry, Shadow. I'll keep your secret."

Shadow nodded before looking back down and stated quietly. "I... I-I... am half female..."

Amy's eyes widened at the reveal. "Wh-What...?"

Shadow sighed and took his hood off his head, mindful of his quills. His muzzle was a bright red. "My creator, Gerald, thought that it was a brilliant idea idea to give me both male and female hormones..."

Amy took a moment to recover from her shock before asking, "So... Why do you need my help?"

The red on Shadow's face seemed to grow; even his ears were turning red. "Y-You see, those 50 years that I had been in suspended animation have... delayed some of my female hormones natural processes... They have just now started to act up..."

"Oh, so you're on your period." Amy said as the puzzle pieces of Shadow's scientific explanation came together in her mind. Shadow's entire face lit up as bright as his eyes as he pulled his legs to his chest and buried his face in his knees, but he nodded in agreement.

Amy giggled slightly, liking this side to Shadow. "And you want my help with how to deal with it?"

He nodded again before mumbling, "I feel like a knife is lodged in my gut..."

"Yeah, that's normal, but chocolate, peanuts, and ibuprofen will definitely help."

After that, Shadow came to Amy for any help with girl stuff until it became a weekly thing to visit after a race with Sonic...

Amy smiled at her friend as she got up. "Would you like to watch a romantic comedy in fluffy pajamas while eating ice cream?"

Shadow's ear twitched, looking at Amy. "Do you have double fudge brownie ice cream?"

"Yes."

"Then yes."

"You get the rom com, I'll get the fluffy pajamas and ice cream."

Because Rouge would've made fun of him.
