Behind her smile she hid her pain,
Every effort she made was all in vain,
She tried to suppress it again and again,
Fighting battles between her heart and her brain,
She doesn't know how much she could contain.

Being happy, she tried to feign,
Being a good friend, she tried to maintain,
Being a good listener, she tried to sustain,
Being okay, she tried to keep her sane.

Foolish she was, for thinking it again,
Hopeless she was, for waiting in the rain,
Damned she was, for wanting something she couldn't obtain,
Broken she was, for staying in his lane.
