Chapter 6 - "You have cold eyes."

Kai's P.O.V

So much blood is being spilled right outside the gates of my kingdom. I should not have to witness such horrid scenes. Their screams are high and regretful. Those screams will haunt my dreams.

I feel a sharp breath on my neck. Before I can turn, my arms are held together and a dagger is revealed in front of my eyes. I am being held hostage!

"How did you get in here?!" My father shouts.

"I have my ways. Stop killing my people or the king dies!" The voice shouts.

"Guards, spare them," I order.

The guards stop killing the Kairos. If I learned anything at all from my father, it is skill. Although he did not teach me enough, I still know a few skills to get out of this person's grasp. I knock my head back and it hits the Kairos. His head is hard and it causes me to get an immense headache. A vibration feeling slithers throughout my temple. The guards immediately run to him and hold him down.

"What shall we do with him your grace?" The guards asks.

"Kill him of course!" My father says.

"Stop!" I command. "I am the king now, father. Spare him and throw him in the dungeon."

"Very well," the guards nod.

They take the Kairos away and he remains silent. The Kairos that were spared begin to run away, they know if they proceed to attack my kingdom, they will die. My father looks at me angrily and shakes his head.

"Why did you spare his life?!" My father shouts with rage in his eyes.

"I wish to question him father. I am king now, do not question my ways."

I turn from him and walk towards where my wedding took place. Everyone is still gathered around. They do not seem to be scared of the situation that took place. The guest are eating, dancing, and even laughing. They must have known my father and I would have stopped the attack. Amelia is standing alone, watching everyone's happiness. I approach her and she gives me a look so gentle, I'm afraid I might break her.

"May a fool such as myself, have this dance?" I ask. I bow before her and gaze into her gentle eyes.

"Why of course, fool."

She chuckles and takes my hand. Her palm is warm in mine. We begin to sway with ease. In this very moment, my stress leaves me and happiness takes its place.

"Do forgive me for leaving you alone my queen," I say gently.

"You are forgiven. Duty called, it is not your fault. I am happy to be your queen."

I smile and continue to sway with such a beauty. My brother approaches us and I immediately stop dancing with Amelia. I completely forgot that he was present. Right now, I want to order my guards to throw him out this instant.

"Sorry to bother you, king," Ian chuckles. "May I have this dance, Queen Amelia?" Ian takes Amelia's hand and kisses her palm.

I push him away and he keeps his emotionless expression on. Amelia pushes me aside and shakes her head.

"Stop it, my king." She brushes her dress off and replies, "Yes, I will dance with you."

Ian takes her hand and they begin to sway. Right now, I want to punch his face, I want him executed! Never have I hated someone this much. So much rage grows inside me because of him.

"King Kai, may I have this dance?" A flirty voice asks. I know that voice; the type of voice that will make a sane man go mad, a voice powerful enough to turn a brother on his family. I turn my head and my eyes meet with Katine's cunning ones. She is my brother's wife, the girl who stole Ian away from this family.

"Of course," I bow.

Her appearance remains the same from the last time I saw her. Her eyes remind me of a snake's, fierce and ready to attack. Her lips are plum and full. Her body is slim and well developed.

My brother did choose a beautiful woman, but not a good one in personality. She is a serpent, but I must be kind with her. If I rub her the wrong way, she will order an attack on my kingdom immediately.

"Nice seeing you again," I say sarcastically as I continue to sway with her.

"Come on king, I know it makes your blood boil to lay your eyes on me. Anyone can read your thoughts from a mile away," Katine whispers into my ears. Her breath is cold on my skin, it makes it crawl.

"What do you wish me to say Katine?" I ask softly. "You have my brother, what more do you want?"

"Power my dear. Soon your kingdom will be mine."

I stop dancing with Katine and I walk over to my brother.

"Guards!" I yell. Everyone stops what they are doing and attention is drawn towards me. "Throw him and his wife out of my kingdom, this instant!"

My guards grab Ian and Katine and the look on my brother's face is just the expression I have been waiting to see. He looks defenseless and weak.

"No worries," Ian sighs. "I will return, with an army!"

The guards begin to take him away and Amelia stands by my side. She holds onto my arm and I look at her. She wears a puzzled expression. Soon I will explain everything to her. Maybe that shall put her mind at ease. I hold Amelia's hand and I lead her into my home. The doors close behind us and I catch my breath.

"Well this was an . . . interesting wedding," Amelia reveals.

"You did not enjoy it? I knew it."

"No!" Amelia shouts. "No," she whispers. "It was memorable. I am just joyful to be your queen. So the lord of the Sham Kingdom is your brother? How interesting."

"You knew?" I ask, bug eyed.

"Of course, most kingdoms know. It was an embarrassment for your parents."

"Enough of that my queen. Let us enjoy our day. Let us dance, feast, and rest beautifully."

Amelia kisses my cheek and nods. I am happy that she is pleased with our wedding. Her smile puts me at ease. I never want to be responsible for this valuable smile to erase.

* *                                            * *

This dungeon reeks of desperation. I have never been below the castle before. My father is always in and out of this place. I used to think that it was his favorite place to be. My mother told me that many lives end in this place. I wish no harm on people, but if it needs to be done, then I will not stop it, I cannot.

I approach the Kairos's cell and observe him well. He looks at me and walks up to the metal bars. He grabs onto them and creates an angry expression on his face.

"You spared me, why?" He asks.

"I did not spare you to be nice, I spared you for questioning," I clear up. "Who are you and your people, what do you want from my kingdom?"

"You do not need to know of my life, nor my people! It is your entire kingdom's fault. They kill us; they killed my father and my sister. Only my mother and I were able to flee. We are hungry, and yet we have to hide in the shadows, poor and desperate."

"What do you mean?" I ask.

"You humans fear what you do not understand! You kill my kind for no reason at all! We were at peace until your kingdom's soldiers decided to kill my people! We meant no harm. We just wish to live. You are the devil himself."

His words are beginning to take a toll on me. Is this what my father stood for? I get that they are not human, but to me, they are people. They do not deserve to die this way. If I were in his place, I would feel hurt and disgusting. He should not be calling me the devil; he should spit those words in my father's face. If I knew that my father was doing these cruel things, I would have ended it myself.

"Kairos, what is your name?" I ask sincerely.

"You do not need to know that!" He barks.

I walk closer to the metal bars and we gaze into each others eyes. I can see the veins swelling on his forehead. He must really have a grudge against me, but there is no reason to. Now that Amelia and I are in power, we will change the actions my father committed. I will do better, I swear it.

"Listen . . . Kairos, I mean no harm as well. When my father was king, I had no idea what he was doing. He hid things from me and acted like everything he did was for good. This . . . this is not for good. I shall help you and your people. Forgive my father for the death of your family, forgive me. I shall have you released by tomorrow morning, sorry."

I turn from him and begin to walk to the stairs. Once I take my third step he shouts, "Wait!" I turn my head and we continue to look at each other.

"My name is Alymer; I was named after my father."

"That is an enchanting name, Alymer. As you may already know, I am King Kai."

"King Kai . . . you have cold eyes."
