Piece from this AU:

***(Jay's POV)***

"9-1-1 operator. What's your emergency?" asks a woman's calm voice.

I press my back up against the wall of the attic. I usually hate it up here, but strangely enough, this is the safest place to be right now.

"9-1-1 operator. What's your emergency?" the woman repeats.

My breath heaves. "He...I...need help." I hold my sleeve against my bloody shoulder, applying pressure like my health teacher always said to do. I don't know how well I'm doing at clotting the wound, given that there's blood everywhere.

It's all I can think...hear...smell...taste...

"What do you need help with?" the operator inquires.

"I...I'm injured. Someone is after me, and he's trying to" – I swallow – "k-kill me." My breath comes out in heaves of fear.

"Okay. If you tell me your address, I can send help right away." Her serene tone is a stark contrast to the panic inundating me right now.

My mind blanks. "My address...t's...it's, um...oh, I forget the numbers! It's Cliff Gordon's mansion." Please know where that is.

"I can look up the address and route help there right now," she reassures me. "What's your name?"

"J-Jay Gordon. I'm Cliff's s-son."

"Don't worry, Jay." Her keyboard clicks as she types. "We have police and an ambulance coming to help you right now. Are you in a safe location?"

"I-I think so. I'm locked upstairs, hiding." But if I'm found...

"And does the intruder know that?" she inquires.

"I don't know."

"Are you sure he's still in the house?"

"Y-yes. He's looking for me." My intake of breath is sharp from pain and distress, but I have to pull through. For dad and mom – I have to get out of this for them.

"Don't panic, Jay," the woman says gently. "Our forces will arrive in a matter of minutes. Can you describe your injuries?"

"M-multiple cuts and bruises. My head is b-bleeding, and I was s-stabbed in the sh-shoulder." I let out a whine that's barely above a whisper.

"And is there anyone else in the house with you, besides the intruder? Is your father at home, or are there any guests?"

"No," I choke out.

If my dad were here, this never would have been a problem. He left for one of his celebrity shindigs, though – he may not come back at all tonight.

"Stay on the phone, Jay," the operator bids me warmly. "Just hold on a moment, and help will be right there."

I hear rustling outside the attic door, and I grow deathly quiet.

But...he can't know I'm here. If he does, he'll kill –

The doorknob rattles, and my heart freezes. I locked the door, of course, but now this intruder knows where I am.

The doorknob shakes with the force of a prying hand. "Come out," the stranger grunts.

My voice is barely a whisper into my cell phone. "He knows."

There's a moment's pause before the woman says, "It's all right, Jay. Just stay calm. Help should be there any moment now."

But I know it won't be soon enough. There's pounding on the door, yelling, cursing. "Come out!" the man's deep voice snarls.

I curl up into a tight ball, which doesn't make the pain in my shoulder any better. However, I bite my lip against a sob and close my eyes, trembling.

"Jay, are you still there?" the operator asks over the phone line.

"Yes," I breathe. "B-but he found me." And I know for a fact I'm defenseless against him.

That's when the attic door bangs open, light from the hall rushing inside the dark attic.

"Found you," the shadowy figure smirks, approaching me in a slow manner distinctly similar to a cat stalking its prey.

"No," I beg. "Please, no!" My voice escalates on a wail. "I – I'll do – I'll do anything." Hysteria rises in me, and I want to shriek in fear and throw up and laugh like a maniac all at once.

***I will probably start working on this when my current book plate gets cleared up. I've been planning it since INK.

Also, MY COMPUTER IS FIXABLE -

And no, this isn't actually horror.***
