Lucas Claire, cousin to Davina Claire was always a quiet boy, one who stuck to himself and practiced his magic alone. The only person who spoke to on a regular basis was Davina, she was the only family he had left. You see, in the early years of his life, Lucas's parents were killed. Not because they were evil but simply because they were too kind in the cruel world of the French Quarter.

The Claire family was never a lucky one, most of the men had died and the women of each generation were usually left with no family. Lucas always thought they were cursed, he didn't want to get close to anyone in fear that when he inevitably died, they would be hurt beyond repair. The thing was, he had no idea when tragedy would strike.

One evening, he was practicing his magic by himself when Eva Sinclair approached. He didn't pay her any mind, he had known the woman for years and she was never any harm to him. That was, until she kidnapped him for a sacrifice. That's when things really got crazy for the Claire boy.

This book is from quite awhile ago, kind of nice to give it somewhat of a facelift.
