"This training is going to be painful, harsh, and terrifying!" General Boise yelled on the top of his lungs, clearly getting the point across as we all stood in lines of twenty, waiting to be recruited. "I will tell you who's comin' and who ain't!" He continued and cleared his raspy throat.

"Arte Ben, Armstrong Gale, Boise Veronica,...." A small smile appeared on my lips when he called my name and Peggy nudges me with her elbow and we both turn to look at each other then quickly back forward to obey orders.

"...Carter Margaret, Donn Bill,..." He continued naming them and I see a small smile spread on Peggy's face through my peripheral vision then disappear into a line when the kernel notices our movement. After an hour of names he demanded a break. I start off to the left with Peg on my right side walking at the same pace. "We did it." I whispered. "We did."

"Ms.Boise report here now!" Yelled the general. I marched to his front, gave him a salute and he returned the greeting.
"Yes sir?" I said not making eye contact.
"Veronica, are you sure you want to do this?" He spoke calmly.
"Sir yes, sir!"
He rested his huge arm on my shoulder.
"Enough of the sir, I am your father. No need to do that."
"Its orders, sir."
"Then I order you to never call me sir unless needed soldier!" He yelled again.
"Yes, dad." I walked beside him into one of the cabins.
He turned putting both hands on my shoulders now, calming my nerves.

"Ron are you sure? You could die out there." He pleaded.

"I'm positive. I love this country. Even if there are bad people out there, there's always a fight needed to be fought and I intend to be the one to fight it, even if it means death."

"Thanks for that, not helping. You're my only daughter and your brothers are too much of pansies to sign up..."

"That's why I'm doing this...for you, I-I may not be a man but that doesn't mean I can not do what my heart wants."

"And your heart wants to fight?" Tears well up in his eyes and he retracts his arms back to his sides.

"My heart wants to save people. I'm not looking to kill dad, to help." I pushed past him in anger for what he thought. Why would I want war? Does he think I've been longing for the death upon our civilians, our world?

I march to Peggy who is in line for the roster board, to see what section she is to teach. We all stand in a very straight line, expressionless faces on every soldier. It takes about thirty to fifty minutes just to read some numbers and letters, its ridiculous.

Finaly its just me and Peggy at the front, followed by hundreds more of annoyed and impatient soldiers. Peggy searches for her last name carefully, her eyes scan over and over the pages. After she finds hers and marks it on her tag I do the same.

Veronica __Ann__Boise
Departure: September 2
Time: 4:15AM
Location: Brooklyn Training Grounds
Note:
You shall be directed to your location by a general or commanding officer.

Fair enough Brooklyn is fine, not too far. I quickly grab a handkerchief from the pocket of my uniform and jot down the information and stick it back as I march off to the General.

I salute him and he nods. "Ms.Boise?"
"My location is Brooklyn, sir." I state hiding my smile with a frown
"Alright...and your going?" He looks like he knows the answer and winces when I nod. He swallows and starts walking. "Follow." He instructs and I walk after him without hesitation. He leads me into a huge cabin where scientists and strange devices are every where, working and metal on metal noises erupt from every machine.

He takes me to a table full of papers. He searches through them all and finds a blank one.
"Do you know all of the info?" He asks clearing his throat. "Uh, yes." I say grabbing the handkerchief and he takes it and fills out the form copying the info. I take the cloth back and stuff it back in my jacket.

"Thank you." I whisper and he nods. "Here, Mr.Stark would like to meet you. He's a scientist whom is going to the same place as you. He's the son of my friend, your age and he's really smart." He speaks like he's preparing our wedding and I follow him through the scurrying scientists. "He's going to take you there and help you around." We stand before a man whom is packing up his equipment.

"Mr.Stark!" My father said cheerily making the man jump, startled. He smiled to him and stood straight.
"Mr.Boise!" He said in the same tone shaking hands with him. "This is my daughter Veronica." Dad said gesturing to me. Howard looked at me holding his hand out. I smiled and shook it but he just stared. "Um, nice to meet you Howard." I spoke and he shook his head. "The pleasures all mine. Now, Mr.Boise I've been working on this machine that is currently in Brooklyn and it can, hopefully, change a man into a super soldier. Meaning..." Howard talked on and I took that as my cue to leave so I saluted the general and walked through the crowd again, and made my way to the women's cabins.

I enter to find all of the women crying or comforting another who was crying. Except Peggy, she's in the back reading a note, most likely her departure and location. I walk up to her and we salute each other by instinct.
"Hi." She says smiling.
"Hello. That your departure sheet?"
"Yes, its for October second."
"Mine is September second."
I'll be leaving before her. Damn.
"Brooklyn." We spoke at the same time. I laughed and she smiled.
"I guess this is where we say goodbye?" Oh right, today's September first.
"No, who says I'm not coming back?" I said smiling, though tears well up in her eyes.
"I know, it'll be hard but I'll send letters. You are my best friend Peg." I said giving her a warmer smile.
"And you're mine. I too, shall send you letters. Telling you I made it."
"Deal."

It got late and I leave in the morning. The early morning, now I gotta say, the butterflies haven't stop churning in my stomach since I tried sleeping. This was truly going to be an experience to remember.

I jolt awake by instinct at about 3:00AM, its when we usually wake up for training. But not today. Today I left to teach soldiers how to win a war and fight in the war. This time our world has two threats. Hitler and HYDRA. HYDRA is a German organization lead by Schmidt, or as many call him, Red Skull. Leader of this group and murderer of many. He intends to destroy the world and thinks he is the most worthy man in the world, thinking the gods chose him and told him to do as they said. Complete madness, though he is much like Hitler, but...deadlier.

I quickly get dressed in my uniform then take the curlers out of my bangs and pull my hair back into a tight pony-tail. I grab Peggy and I's hidden hairspray, and spray my curls so they don't look corrupted. I apply, our also hidden, red lipstick to my lips and make sure I'm ready.

I make my way to the dinning hall to find Peggy sitting alone, being taunted by the men around her trying to flirt. I walk up to her and the howling boys.

"Soldiers! Know your place and shut your rude mouths and eat your breakfast!" I shout and they clumsily quiet down and turn facing away from me. Peggy gives me a smile. I always woke up later than her. She's the early bird. She wakes up with the guys.

"Thanks" she says as I sit across from her.
"You'll get no where if you just ignore them. Stand up for yourself. Promise you won't take shit from those guys when you hit Brooklyn? Just confront 'em and punch them in the jaw." I said chewing on a toothpick.

"You have my word Ronnie." She laughed. "I promise."
"Good. I gotta find that Howard guy, he's taking me." I eyed around the hall for him. Nope. I sigh.

"Do you know when he gets here?" I asked looking at her and she's crying. I smile. "You'll be fine here without me, Peg. Your strong and if you keep that promise, it'll be a breezy month." I said sympathetically. She sniffles, and closes her eyes. "Y-You're right Ron...I'm sorry...its just I'll be alone and-" she clears her throat and takes a deep breath to calm herself.
"I know, I know. You'll be fine, trust me." She smiles and rubs the tears away.

"Veronica Boise! Its time for you're departure!" A officer yells and both me and Peggy stand. She walks to me and hugs me. "Good bye...for now." I whisper. "Don't forget me." She whispers back. We salute each other with a final bye and I walk to the officer at the end of the hall. I turn and smile and wave to Peggy and a tear streams carefully down her cheek and she waves back.

I push the heavy doors open and the officer leads me out. I walk carefully next to him, the churning in my stomach visiting once again. Howard stands in front of my father dressed properly. He catches sight of me and stops talking to him, giving me a smile.
"We packed your bags Ms.Boise." Howard speaks. "Thank you Howard, Please call me Veronica." He nods and I turn to my father. I raise my hand to salute and he takes it in his, tears escaping his eyes now too.

"I'm going to be alright dad." I say bringing him into a hug. He hugs me back, his strong arms caressing my back, almost unable to let go. But he does and rests his hands on the sides of my arms. "I know." He says smiling weakly. I smile back. "Then do not worry."

"I love you Ron."
"I love you too, dad." I kiss his cheek and hug him once more. "I'll see you after we win."
"Goodbye." We salute each other and the trains horn startles us and Howard smiles impatiently, staring. Again. Before I could say anything the train slows in front of us and gusts of wind and dirt hit us.

Howard hands the luggage to a man in the train and hops in after. He holds a hand for me but I get up myself. I smile and take a seat and blow a kiss to my crying father. Howard sits across from me. "Hello." He begins and I turn to face him and smile.
"Hello."
"We're only about two hours away so it won't be long"
"I know." I say and he nods.
"Hey um have you ever tried fondue?" He asks tapping his fingers against the table that separates us.
"Yes, actually. I used to have it at dances." Strange question, almost makes me wanna laugh.

{Lol fondue? Sorry...not sorry! First chapter yesss! Btw I really liked writing this so I hope you enjoy reading it!}
