Keira dropped me off outside the bridge which for some reason had been mysteriously closed for overnight repairs. Before she drove away she handed me a small silver pistol.

“Just in case he turns out to be a weirdo.” She said.

I slipped the gun in my jacket pocket and looked about wondering if one of the slayers or archangels would leap out on me and wrestle me to the ground. But there was no one. The power station lay derelict on the south side of the river. I ignored the signs and traffic cones and walked along the road. I emerged on the bridge stopped still. In front of me I could see a grown up Micah standing casually in a brown leather jacket staring over the water completely obviously to the danger he was in. For a moment I wanted to run across the bridge and jump into his arms because I was so pleased to see him but then I realized this was not the time for a soppy reunion. I walked across the bridge and he turned like he was expecting me.

“Lorna.” Micah smiled warmly.

“Micah.” I said in hushed whisper of awe.

Tears welled up in my eyes, and I reached out and touched his face. Micah. My Micah.

“You have to go, Micah, people are coming to kill you. You have to leave now.” I said urgently.

Micah shrugged and wrapped his arms around me just like we had done long ago. I felt him bury his face into the side of my neck and then take a slow deep breath inhaling my scent. This didn’t feel like a friendly hug, it felt like an intimate embrace. I tried not to shudder at Micah’s touch, the vampire blood bond between Michael and I made me feel sick at the touch of another man. Micah’s hand swept over my hair and he made shushing noises softly in my ear. This didn’t feel like Micah. This felt seriously wrong.

“I’ll make them all go away.” Micah said softly

“Shit Micah, they got shitting guns! You’ve got to get out of here!” I snapped trying to pull away.

“Stop,” The order was swift and sharp and Micah pulled me back into his arms, the strength of his grip shocked me, “It’s already too late, they are already here.”

Looking over my shoulder I saw Michael by himself walking across the bridge with a gun.

“Don’t you dare hurt her!” he yelled at Micah.

Micah lifted my chin up forcing me to meet his eyes, “Does she look hurt to you?” He called back to Michael.

“Leave her out of this, Micah. Give her back to me.” Michael said calmly.

Micah let out an angry snort of laughter, “Give her back? She never belonged to you! You took her from me and now I am taking back what is rightfully mine.”

A horrible wild chorus of howls resonated across the bridge from the derelict power station cutting right through me. The monsters were coming.

“Micah, please, you really need to get out of here.” I said. He didn’t understand the danger he was in. Michael pulled out his gun and I quickly stepped protectively infront of Micah, “I won’t let you kill him.” I said pulling out the pistol from my jacket pocket and pointing it at Michael. The colour drained from Michael’s face,

“Throw the gun down now Lorna!” He pleaded.

I shook my head, “No, I know you’re going to kill him.”

“Lorna, we are surrounded by soldiers and slayers put the gun down now before-”

Michael suddenly lunged forward as a thirty red laser dots appeared over the vital points of my body. I blinked and heard the soft whistling sounds of bullets cutting through the air. Arms wrapped protectively around me crushing me against a wall of flesh then turning sharply they took the hail of bullets for me. Panic swept over me, no one could survive that many hits. I pulled out of the protective embrace expecting to see Michael falling to his knees in a death kneel. But I was wrong- so very wrong. The bullets were pushed out of Micah’s flesh dropping to the floor making metallic clinking sounds as his skin and muscle tissue healed. Micah wasn’t human. I felt faint and staggered forward, Micah’s arms reached out and caught me, steadying me. I looked up at him speechless unable to contemplate the reality that I was facing right now.

“What…how?” I couldn’t even string a sentence together. Micah didn’t even acknowledge my ramblings he was purely fixated on Michael.

“She doesn’t want to be with you.” Micah said softly, “You can’t even protect her.”

“Micah let her go.” Michael begged.

Micah laughed softly and prized the gun from my trembling hand, “I’m not holding her against he will.” He shrugged lifting the gun and pointing it as Micah. The red lasers lit up over Micah’s body but he didn’t seem to care.

“By all means, please waste you ammo. Your guns can not kill me!” Micah yelled into the night air.

“Micah,” I said dryly, “Please tell me how did you get this way? I thought you had escaped the research lab?”

Micah pulled me up against him and pressed a light kiss on the top of my head, “No human walked out that lab alive.”

“Because you and those monsters ate them.” Michael said darkly.

I looked up at Micah with disbelieving eyes, “No, I don’t believe that. You wouldn’t hurt people, you’re not like that!” I said.

“Lorna, I love you but shut the fuck up,” Micah snapped clamping his hand over my mouth. “In the beginning, Michael, there was me; and at the end there will be me. You will be erased shortly from our history.”

“She doesn’t love you,” Michael replied, “I’ve seen her dreams and her memories and each one of you are always accompanied with the stench of alcohol and bitter disappointment.”

I felt Micah whole body go rigid with rage, his grip on me tightened to the point he was crushing me. Michael took a step forward ignoring the gun pointing him in the face.

“Didn’t you ever wonder why she never gave herself to you,” He said provoking Micah, “Didn’t you ever wonder why she kept turning you away night after night,”

Micah’s grip tightened harder.

“Because she was saving herself for me.” Michael said.

It was at that moment Micah was caught off guard by Keira who flew out of nowhere jumping onto Micah. Micah pushed me away and a struggled ensued, both Keira and Micah struggle to gain possession of the gun. Michael seized the opportunity and grabbed me. Suddenly all the archangels appeared onto the bridge, Michael looked at Raphael and said sharply, “Take her!” I was thrown in Raphael’s arms, who threw me over his shoulder and began to sprint over the bridge. I stared up as Michael and the others ran to Keira’s aid. She was screaming the words ‘murderer’ over and over again at Micah.  Out the corner of my eye I spotted black shadows running along the embankment, one of the archangels pointed towards them and yelled,

“V-6s along embankment!”

The air suddenly exploded into gun shots and piercing screeches and unearthly howls as a battle vampires and monsters began. Keira was still on the floor wrestling Micah to the ground, while the others were busy taking out the V-6s on the canal path. Raphael hesitated for a moment slowing his pace, he didn’t want to leave his comrades but Michael saw his hesitation and yelled across the pandemonium, “Get her out of here!”

Raphael swore softly under his breathe and whispered, “They’re all going to be slaughtered.”

Panic gripped me and I pounded on Raphael’s back, “Put me down, I can run. Go back and help the others.”

“I must follow my orders.” Raphael said flatly.

“I can run faster than you! Please don’t let them die!” I screamed.

Raphael stopped and put me down, placing both hands on my shoulders he looked me directly in to my eyes and said, “Then fucking run.”

I turned and ran, I ran hard and fast. The back streets of London blurred past me as I darted through the darkness. I didn’t know where I was going. I just kept going. Tears streaked down my face and I felt like a coward for abandoning my friends. This mess was all my fault after all. I turned down another alley and BAM. I was knocked to the floor. For a moment I thought one of the monsters had caught up with me but I was surprised to see Francesca standing next to me gasping for breath.

“Damn your fast,” She said.

I looked up at her, a complete and utter emotionally mess. I was unable to speak. Francesca’s face softened, “Michael told us.” She said.

“I’ve been such an idiot!” I cried. “Micah was the one who killed those people and Emma!”

“This isn’t your fault Lorna. We didn’t know either. If your Uncle knew Micah was the killer there was no way in hell he would  have let you go after him. The slayers withheld information from us. This is their fault, not yours.” She explained.

I nodded but the vampire adrenaline that had been fuelling my sprint started to subside. Oh no, my body was starting to go into shutdown prematurely. It did that if I over used my vampire ability. Helplessly I looked up at Francesca who quickly read the situation. She knelt down and lifted me into her arm while I fought to stay awake. Sleepiness was encroaching on me fast.

“I can’t fall asleep… Keira…Michael… I can’t …fall.” I muttered slumping over Francesca’s shoulder. My eye lids were so heavy and my body was so exhausted. A strange dreamy haze fell over me and erased everything that had just happened. Right at this moment all that existed was my desire to fall into complete and utter unconsciousness. I heard Magda’s voice but then there was nothing but darkness.
