A man came home drunk and started beating his wife. He removed his clothes and forcefully raped her and slept on bed peacefully after his desires were fulfilled leaving her like that. You must be thinking she will be crying, screaming because of pain. Hell no!! She had become so used to it. It wasn't first time. It was the same story since her first day in this home.

That also she was sitting in her red bridal lehanga with her hands covered with mehandi of his name and bangles in arms. She was waiting for him. She had also seen dreams of this day like every other girl. But he broke her every dream. He came in room all drunk and took her dignity. She kept crying, screaming in a hope, sorry false hope that someone will come and save her but alas all turned deaf ears to her. She was disgusted of his touches. She was scared of everything but did anyone care? No one. In fact all were proud of their son like he won a big achievement. Next day, her mother called her. She broke down in tears while talking to her.

Mother: Arti kya hua? Tu theek hai na?

Aarti: Maa ye bohot bure. Kal raat inhone bohot galat kia mere saath ma. Mujhe nhi rehna yha

Mother: (shouted) Chup kar. Kya anaab shanaab bake ja rhi hai? Ghar hai wo tera. Pati hai wo tera. Aesa bhi kya kar dia jo tu ye sab bakwas kr rhi hai?

Aarti: Maa unhone mujhe chhua (touch) bina mujhse pooche. Mere saath zabardasti ki maa. Mujhe bilkul achha nhi laga maa. Aap kuch karo na ma. Mujhe nhi rehna yha

She said crying violently.

Mother: Apni bakwas band karde. Isse pehle koi sunle ye sab. Aur shadi ke baad aese hi hota hai. Ab zyada matt bol. Vahi tera ghar hai. Ye sab shaadi ke baad hota hai. Aur mujhe iss baare mein dobara kuch nhi sunna

She cut the call. Aarti kept crying cursing her fate. Her own mother didn't support her. From whom other can she expect it? It became everyday routine. At night, he used to come wasted and hit her, rape her brutally and sleep like nothing happened. She used scream, cry initially but over a period of time, her tears also dried up. Her throat stopped screaming. She became quite. She got habitual to it.

Later she gave birth to her daughter first and then son. She used to live for them. Before their birth, she even thought to run away many times but now she thought she couldn't think of it. She thought where will she go with her children and without them she will die for sure. If by baring this pain her children can be happy then she could do it for them.

She knew it's her life and she had even stopped complaining about it or stopped praying or hoping for something better. She just used to pray for good future of her children.

One night, her husband came home drunk. He went to his daughter's room. She was studying. He snatched her books and burnt them. She started crying and shouting. Hearing those shouts, Aarti and her son came there. Aarti got tears and gasped.

Hus: Aayee chup. Tu aaj se koi padai nhi kregi. Mujhe paiso ki zaroorat hai to mein teri shaadi karwa rha hu. Mujhe paise chahie

Aarti gritted her teeth. Tears were rolling down her cheeks.

Aarti: (shouted) Aur kya krega paiso ka tu hnn? Nashe na? Mein tujhe apne bacho ki zindagi nahin krne doongi. Meri krdi. Mein chup rhi. Par mere bacho ke baare mein sochna bhi matt

He was about to slap her but she held his hand. Anger was visible in her eyes. She looked around. There was a rod lying on floor. She picked it up and before he could act because of his drunk condition, she hit his head badly. She hit him multiple times till he got completely unconscious. Aarti was in tears. Children were numb seeing the scene in front of them. Boy hugged his elder sister tightly.

Aarti: Chlo yhase

Girl: Maa

Aarti: Maine kaha niklo yhase

Girl: Maa kha jaenge?

Aarti: Khi bhi. Par iss rakshas ke saath mein ek minute bhi aur nhi ruk skti. Chlo yhase

She picked up a few necessary things and little bit money. The three of them ran away. They somehow reached her home. Her parents were so angry no no not at her husband but shamefully at Aarti for going against her ***Pati parmeshwar***, hitting him, going against him and running away from him.

Mother: Tujhe itni si bhi sharam hai?

Aarti: Maa

She said almost in tears.

Mother: Yha kyu aayi hai?

Aarti smiled through tears.

Aarti: Galti ho gyi maa. Mujhe laga aap log mera saath doge. Par mein galat thi

Mother: Galat to tu hai. Kisne bola tha ki pati ka chhod aa

Aarti: Maa wo usne kabhi kabhi bhi pati hone ka farz nhi nibhaya aur aap mujhe galat keh rhe ho

Mother: Wo sab mujhe nhi pta

Father: Kya ho rha hai ye sab? Seedha seedha bol isse ki iske lie iss ghar mein koi jagah nhi hai

Aarti joined her hands.

Aarti: Mujhe yaha nhi aana chahie tha. Ho sake to mujhe maaf kar dijiega

She held her children's hand and left. From a bit of money she took, she rented a small house for three of them. She mortgaged her jewelry for her children's study. She filed divorce against her husband. She blamed him of marital rape, domestic violence and mental torture. Police arrested him. He tried defending himself saying she is his wife and there is nothing wrong in whatever he did. He has rights over her body. But court held him guilty and punished him with imprisonment and gave orders for divorce.

Many problems came in her way. People used to speak ill of her for leaving her husband. But she was determined this time. She stood strong. She used to work in people's home. She had a small home where she used to live with her children. She used to earn less. But it was better than suffering from everyday torture. She was even baring it for her children but when it came to her children she couldn't take it anymore. She didn't know from where that strength came from suddenly which didn't come from almost 17 years and she fought for her rights.
