"This is how the world starts to crash."

"My dear lover? Really, Damien?" Amelia hissed with a completely angry facial expression.

Damien was sitting right beside her and dying of laughter. They were in the meeting room of the main building, waiting for Janus for their meeting. Earlier, Damien said that Janus called him and told him they both have to come. Apparently, he sounded very serious and worried.

But, on their way here, they had to meet Kaley and Camila. This time, Amelia didn't have enough luck to avoid them and it was all thanks to Damien.

"What? It was a funny joke," he said as he tried to catch his breath. "I just tried to annoy you as much as possible."

Amelia groaned.

"Then stop," she shot back. "I'm fed up with your shit, especially in front of other people."

"Oh, relax," he said and turned on his chair.

"Am I interrupting something?"

At this statement, they both faced the door and saw Janus standing there. The leader didn't wear any trace of amusement or his usual smile on his face. Contrary to that, he was very much serious and Amelia could swear, worried.

Damien jumped on his feet, obviously alarmed by his father's behavior.

"What happened?"

Amelia felt like the whole year was dragging by them until Janus finally decided to sigh and sit down in front of them.

"It's happening," he uttered.

She furrowed her eyebrows in confusion.

"What?"

Janus took a deep breath.

"I just got the call from Pentagon," he continued while both of them listened with great interest. "Today at 22 p.m. there were parallel attacks all over the world. Time immaculate attacks."

Amelia's breath hitched. She literally felt like everything around her stopped.

"Targets?" Damien managed to ask.

Janus took a remote from the desk in front of him and suddenly, the room became dark. The only source of light was the small screen on the opposite wall. It was showing the map of the whole world. Besides that, Amelia clearly saw red marks.

She gasped. Five places were marked.

"Cape Town, New Delhi, Berlin, Melbourne, Rio de Janeiro and finally...New York," Janus spelled the target towns out loud but even without that, Amelia and Damien didn't take long to connect things.

Parallel attacks in big country towns. Every country was on a different continent.

"Sawyer and his team?" she asked. A sharpness in her voice could tell how upset and worried she was over their New York warrior brothers and sisters.

"He contacted me half an hour ago. He's fine but there are fifteen dead warriors in New York," Janus explained further.

"Fuck!"

"Is this actually what I think it is?" Damien asked.

The leader just looked at them knowingly. They weren't stupid and he didn't have to vocalize everything.

"The governments all around the world, secret services, intelligence services...they all are currently on their feet. They know the ground they are walking on is starting to burn in hell," Janus expressed himself very metaphorically. "Pentagon, along with the president's office is making a lot of pressure on me."

"This is how the world starts to crash," Damien said.

Amelia knew they were in a lot of trouble.

"They want us to help them evacuate people and to take their leader down," he replied, now looking in her direction.

"My father," Amelia stated simply.

He nodded.

"They know he is the main source of this. A mastermind."

She got up and approached the screen on the wall, which was still showing target places.

"If you want me to take him down, I'll take him down," she said, not showing any emotion behind her statement. And she definitely didn't feel any. Technically, Victor was her father but she didn't feel anything for the leader of the red-eyed vampires. Nothing, besides disdain.

"That's exactly what he must be expecting from me," Janus answered. "To send his own daughter to kill him. He's probably already calculating and thinking about the best way to kill you. He just needs the opportunity. How many times have you two been in the same place?"

Amelia coughed. She felt very uncomfortable talking about Victor and the possibility of him killing her.

"I don't know. Ten times maybe."

In the corner of her eye, she saw Janus approaching her.

"And how many times did he tried to kill you?" he asked, turning her body to face him.

"Ten," she replied. "Once, they almost did it. When they blew that damn building in Hot Springs. He and his moronic son thought I was dead while I was only unconscious and I came to my senses very fast. That was the first time I saw him getting so close and how alike we are."

Janus let the small smile on his face.

"Luckily, only in body, not in soul," he said, once more giving her the opportunity to appreciate him and his love for her. "You're not fighting against Victor. At least not yet. But we have to assume that this war just got on a completely new level. The possible apocalypse we've already talked about."

Amelia nodded in agreement.

"I don't have the other choice but to contact Orion," he continued. "We need more warriors and he can send them to us. And I need you to go to New York and talk to Sawyer in person. Only the two of you, no witnesses. You have to look over the situation in person."

She once again nodded. She was now aware of their priorities. And the main one was to keep the people who are already inside this complex safe and try to help the others. Amelia put her hand on Janus's shoulder.

"You know I won't let you down," she said. "We're gonna figure this out, no matter how much I'm not agreeing on helping celebrities."

Janus smiled.

"I know you won't," he replied and then faced his son. "Damien, you're the main person in charge until she comes back from New York."

He just nodded, ready to take over all Amelia's duties.

"If you need any help, Strom or Neveah will be more than willing to help you," she said to him. "Janus, I need someone with me."

The leader immediately agreed with her.

"Yes, I know. You're going to take newbies."

"What?" she asked in a raised voice. She needed warriors, not a bunch of scared children.

Janus sat down once again and then asked Amelia to do the same.

"Look," he started. "I know what you think but this war is not only knocking on our door but every door in this fucking world. We need warriors and I'm afraid we don't have more time to prepare them. We have what we have and we need to use it. The only way for them to learn is to face them with the reality, take them to New York and show them how real war looks like. They have to forget about holograms."

Amelia sighed. Janus was right but she was more convinced that they all were going to quit after New York. No matter of her thoughts and doubts, she didn't want to go against Janus's orders. If he wanted them to go on this trip with her, she would take them.

After a few short minutes of talking to Janus, both, she and Damien left the meeting room.

"What are you thinking about? The meeting with trainees?" Damien asked but she shook her head.

"I have to go to my house. I think I left my phone there. Can you go to the training hall and tell them everything? They should be in there right now."

Damien nodded and soon, she and her cousin went their separate ways.

As she got out of the main building, she was thinking about everything Janus just revealed. If they were right, then the whole world and human race were in a big trouble. Amelia knew for a while what was the main goal for red ones. It was just a matter of time when they would go for it.

She entered the park and slowly headed towards her house when she saw two familiar silhouettes in coming from a different direction.

Camila and Kaley.

Amelia looked at her wristwatch. It was already pretty late for them to walk around like this, after coming in the complex just this morning. They could easily get into trouble.

But two women didn't seem concerned. Amelia could say that just by their posture. They seemed to be at ease, talking about God knows what. Just as she decided to join them and tell them to go to their house, she saw another silhouette walking not so far away from them. It was male. The man was probably following them around.

She decided to hide in the shadows and wait for him to come to light. She wanted to know who was it.

Camila and Kaley still didn't notice him. They passed by the streetlamp and continued to move forward. Just as she expected, he followed them.

When he finally came under the same lamp, Amelia immediately recognized him.

It was Frank.

At first, her eyes widened but then she only felt a pure rage. She clearly told him not to approach anyone from her list, but as always, Frank was oblivious. She flew forward, ready to rip his head off.

"Frank!" she yelled.

Her enraged voice stopped not only Frank, who turned around but also Camila and Kaley. Two women stopped and faced Amelia.

The vampire approached Frank who was a little green in the face, probably because he got caught and stopped just a few centimeters from his body.

"Damien is waiting for you in the main training room," she hissed through gritted teeth, looking at him knowingly.

"Amelia, I can explain," he started in a squeaky voice but she didn't intend to listen to his explanations.

"Save it. Go find Damien. We have a situation."

Frank didn't protest. Once again, he turned to look at Camila's and Kaley's confused faces and then just left in the direction of the main building.

Amelia waited till he disappeared from her view. She faced the two of them and decided to approach.

"Hey, Amelia, is everything okay?" Kaley asked first.

She observed both of their faces well and couldn't find any signs of recognition.

"It's late. You should be inside your house, not out in the open like that. You just arrived this morning," she quickly explained.

Camila and Kaley exchanged glances.

"You said the complex is safe," Kaley replied in confusion.

Amelia pointed her fingers ahead, letting them know what she wanted. They all started to walk towards residential settlements.

"And it is, but I can't guarantee to you that none of the vampires won't approach you or try something," she explained. "I'll take you home."

"Who was that man? Was he following us?" Kaley asked.

Amelia noticed Camila was the quiet one. The signer never asked her anything or try to start a conversation with her. Then she remembered the awkward moment they shared when Xenia approached her. Could that be a reason for Camila's strange behavior?

"That's just Frank, one of my warriors," she replied. "It seemed like he was following you around but he's not really dangerous. He's just a jerk and probably wanted to hit on you."

They spent the rest of the walk in a complete silence. Amelia felt uncomfortable. It was still a little strange to be in such a close proximity to human beings. They weren't so different when it comes to appearance but their way of thinking was.

When they came to their house, Kaley uttered some kind of apology and quickly disappeared behind the closed door. Amelia noticed Camila didn't even have time to react. She just stood there, taken a little aback by Kaley's behavior.

Amelia put her hands in her pockets and she was ready to leave.

"Take care of yourself, yeah?"

That seemed to startle Camila a little.

"Why would you tell us the complex is safe when we can't even walk freely around it?" she finally asked.

It was the first time Amelia could hear her voice in more than just one word. She stopped.

"I never lied to you, it is safe but it's night time and there are a lot of jerks among blue vampires too," she replied. "We may be good guys but I can't guarantee for anyone. I can't promise anything. The only person who can take the best care of you is you, not me or Janus or anyone else for that matter."

Camila was taking in everything Amelia said.

"I would love to meet some other vampires. We are going to live together after all," she said.

Amelia approached her close enough to see her face. She could see her swallowing hard.

"And you can but not Frank," she answered. "I forbade him to approach any people from my list. Like I said he's a jerk, who's going to try to hit on you and take you to his bed."

Camila's face immediately god red but besides that, Amelia saw something else in her eyes. Fire.

"And don't I have a say in this?" she asked, now sounding pretty defensive. "How do you know that I don't want him to hit on me?"

"On the day we got our lists, he saw your name written on mine and do you know what he said?" Amelia shot back, now getting in her face. She decided to be completely honest because she felt that humans needed exactly that to realize their current situation. Brutal honesty.

Camila just shook her head.

"He said that no matter of your age, you could use some experience and he would gladly teach you how to do certain things."

Camila's eyes widened.

"Do you still want him to hit on you?" Amelia asked.

There was a complete silence for a few moments.

"No," Camila finally muttered.

"Good, I'm glad we're on the same page. Stay away from Frank and I'll make sure he stays away from you as well."

After her last statement, Amelia started to move away but a strong grip on her wrist stopped her.

"I'm really sorry if we caused any problems," she apologized, looking at the ground.

Now the warrior almost felt sorry for her. She just sighed.

"You didn't but, please, take it easy. Take your time and get to know the complex during day hours before walking around in the middle of the night," she said in a much softer voice than before.

Camila groaned.

"I know we should, but we overslept the whole day," she explained. "We were exhausted from the trip."

"I know but still. Listen to my instructions. I wasn't joking when I said we all want this to go as smoothly as possible."

Camila nodded her head in agreement. Amelia knew she managed to get to the part of her which was willing to listen.

"Hey, just now I realized I never thanked you for what you did," Camila said again, changing the subject.

The warrior furrowed her eyebrows in confusion. What was she talking about?

"You saved me from breaking my nose on that steps. So, thank you for that."

Now, she understood.

"You don't have to thank me," she replied. "Keep that head of yours out of trouble, yeah?"

That made Camila smile. Amelia had to smile back. The singer didn't seem so bad after all.

"I have to go now," she said.

Camila gave her a small goodbye wave and just as she wanted to leave, she heard rushed steps. Then, a small body collided with hers, once again stopping her from leaving.

"Amelia!" Camila's brother yelled in excitement.

She froze in place as her hands found their way to Lucas's back. A small "hey" was everything she managed to utter.

"When are we going to ride your horse?" the boy asked. "You promised we would, do you remember?"

She closed her eyes and took a deep breath to clean her head. She had to think straight because this direct contact with a human being was still so strange and surreal for her. Somehow, Lucas woke up some warm feeling inside of her and that was exactly what Amelia wanted to avoid. She didn't want to feel anything.

"Umm," she started and then looked at Camila's eyes which were a little confused and at the same time curious. The singer looked just as lost as she felt so Amelia immediately understood she wouldn't get any help from Camila. She moved him away from herself so she could crouch down on his level. Her hands were gently holding Lucas's upper arms. "How come you're still up? It's already pretty late."

He just shrugged and looked at her with his big brown eyes, full of hope.

"I'm not tired. I've slept enough," he said. "So, when are you taking me to meet your horse?"

The boy was smart. But Amelia already knew that. He didn't let her change the subject so she just sighed in defeat.

"I'd love to take you there tonight but I can't. I have an important meeting and then I'm leaving the complex for a couple of days," she explained and Lucas's face immediately dropped. He was disappointed which made Amelia feel very uneasy. "Look, when I get back, I promise I'd take you to meet my horse. I have to introduce you to him first, before letting you ride him."

His eyes lit up like lights on Christmas Eve and Amelia simply had to smile. He was adorable.

"Where are you going?" he asked, the horse riding already forgotten.

"To New York," she replied.

Suddenly, he started to jump up and down.

"That's where my horse is staying," he yelled in excitement.

Amelia rose her eyebrows.

"Well, not really in the city but a little far from New York. Would you go there and say hi to her from me? I miss her."

Amelia was speechless. She didn't know what to say to this request but that seemed to wake Camila up a little and she finally approached closer to her brother.

"Luke, we should leave Amelia alone. I'm sure she has enough work to do even without your requests. C'mon," she said and put her hand on the boy's shoulder.

But Amelia's reaction was different. The vampire rose her hand.

"It's okay, I don't mind," she said to Camila before looking at Lucas again. "I'll go and visit your horse, I promise. You just have to give me a name and the address where she stays."

He smiled and then looked at Camila, sticking his tongue out.

"You see? I'm not annoying."

Amelia laughed out loud.

"Her name is Bella," Lucas continued. "But I have to ask mommy where she stays."

She ran his hand through his hair to smoothen it.

"It's okay, you don't have to. I'll find her."

Then, Lucas just stepped forward and wrapped his little arms around Amelia's neck, giving her a tight "thank you" hug.

She froze again. She didn't know what to do or how to act when the boy was showing her his affection. It was surreal.

"Why are you going to New York? Did those red-eyed people attack somebody again?" he asked another question.

She didn't know how to answer this. She couldn't tell him the truth. But apparently, Camila had enough and now she picked Lucas up from behind and moved him away from Amelia.

The vampire got up.

"I think you asked enough questions for one night. Go in, mom is probably worried," she said to him and just as Lucas wanted to protest, she gave him a look and he immediately shut his mouth and listened to her. As he was leaving, he gave Amelia a small goodbye wave.

She smiled back.

"I'm so sorry for him," Camila apologized for her brother's behavior. "He always has a million questions about everything and doesn't know how to stop."

Amelia looked straight to her eyes. She noticed they were the same color as Lucas's.

"He's just a child. I understand."

There was an awkward silence for a few moments and Amelia was ready to leave for the third time this night when Camila spoke again.

"Are you going to New York to fight?" she asked with a little bit of fear in her voice.

Amelia wondered what she was afraid of.

"Umm," she started, not sure how to answer. Once again, she didn't want to reveal the truth. "It's not something you should think about. Right now, you have more important things to take care of."

She couldn't read Camila's facial expression.

"I know, but I would lie if I wouldn't admit I'm a little worried," she replied.

Amelia rubbed her forehead. She already had so much on her plate and she couldn't add more things to worry about. Especially the feelings of the human race. She had to remind herself to think straight.

"Then I have to ask you to have a little faith in us," she answered. "We will fix all this. You stay focused on adjusting your life to this complex and stop breaking your head over the outside world, okay?"

Camila just gave her a tight smile and nodded her head. Amelia knew she didn't buy her story.

"I really have to go now. I'm already so late and Damien is going to kill me."

She nodded.

"Be careful in New York. We still need our guardian."

Amelia smiled a little.

"See you soon," she said and turned around. As she was leaving, she didn't look back anymore but she knew Camila's eyes were still on her.
