"When I said I'd take a bullet for you, I didn't mean it quite literally."

Thorn choked a laugh as he held his dying brother in his arms. Solar, who was his brother in everything but blood. The person who adopted him when he had nobody but himself.

But alas, how cruel fate is. Now he held the bleeding body of Solar, who, in a few minutes max, will be lying cold in his arms.

Thorn realized he was a curse. Nobody would last long with him. His parents left him. His friends backstabbed him. And now Solar, the only person who actually loved him, was dying.

The nature elemental cursed the fates to the skies. Why must they play with him? Him, who had done nothing but live his life. Him, who only wished for a happy, normal life.

"I'm sorry, Solar," he whispered, cradling the head of his dying brother.

"Don't be," Solar choked out. "I didn't regret accepting you into my life."

"But remember." Solar was wheezing now, and his breath were coming out in short gasps. "Remember, you – will find – happiness – soon."

Solar took a deep gasping breath, and with the last of his energy, whispered the following words:

"Though I won't be there to see that happen, but know that I'll be watching you from above."

Solar's prediction did come true, as a few months after his death, Thorn found love. True love. A love that lasted a lifetime.

What I mean by lifetime is that they died together on the day they got married.
