thank you

K.O. was sitting on the ground, his mind racing as tears spilled from his eyes. It had just hit him, what had happened, and what he had done to everyone.

The plaza was empty and quiet, and the sky was red, sort of like a post-apocalyptic environment. He was the only one left now, he was going to be here forever without his family and friends, all because of what he had done in a fit of rage.

He couldn't stop crying, the feeling of grief and anger washed over him. He'd do anything to bring back everyone else, they never deserved any of this.

"What have I done?" K.O.'s voice broke as he spoke, his body shaking as tears still streamed down his face. He could hardly comprehend anything right now, and he just wanted to wake up and have this be a dream.

"You won the tournament, young blood!" A voice loudly boomed over K.O., causing him to jerk up. There stood the president of the universe, right in front of him.

"Can you dig it? Out of sight!" He declared as he started dancing around, not paying any notice to the obviously very distraught K.O. "Aw yeah, baby, how does it feel?"

K.O. just looked at him, his eyes red from all the crying he had done. There was a brief moment of silence as K.O. stared at him "Terrible," he choked out, sitting in a puddle of tears below him.

"That's not very groovy," the president responded, stopping his dancing and placing his hand on his chin. K.O. just sniffled, looking down at the ground once again.

"I don't care about winning some stupid tournament," he said as he wiped the tears off his face. "Nothing means anything without the people I love." He grabbed onto his shirt and closed his eyes, his chest hurting from all the crying he had done.

"Well, lucky for you, tournament winners get one wish." He spun around and stuck his finger inside his ear, pulling out a star. He brought it down to K.O., who stared at it for a moment before picking it up. "You mean, I can wish for anything?"

The president nodded. "Anything."

K.O. looked down at it again, thinking about what he should do. He could wish for his friends to come back, right here, right now, but it didn't seem good enough. He didn't just want to forget this had ever happened, he knew this wasn't just something to let go.

Memories started flooding back to him, memories of when he first met Enid and Rad. He remembered when he got hired, and how joyful he was about it. His tears started to form again, but he forced them back.

Then, he remembered the fact that a lot of people seemed to want him to suffer.

How they would write stuff about him, how they would make bad stuff happen to him to the point where he couldn't take it anymore. How they'd take their feelings out on him, or how they would just make him suffer for the fun of it.

He didn't understand how they cared about him if they did this to him. He used to fear that a group of people would run into his house in the middle of the night, holding a knife, and try to kill him while saying that they love and appreciate him. It was extremely contradictory, and it didn't make sense.

All the stuff people had done to him, all the things that people made happen to him. Him getting beaten up, turning into an ooze monster, harming himself, killing himself, being murdered, and so much more.

People made his life messed up to the point it wasn't even like him anymore. There were so many different universes created just for the sake of him suffering.

There was the universe where K.O. wasn't planned and Professor Venomous was an insane villain who was extremely attracted to his mom and had done messed up things to her. There was one where him and T.K.O. were twin brothers, and one where he was kidnapped and was missing for seven years.

Then there was the post-apocalyptic universe. That seemed to be the closest to where he was at the moment. A universe where him and T.K.O. became separate people, where most of the heroes were wiped out, and how he was living underground with Colewort and Potato, hiding from the villains.

He was grateful it didn't get as far as it was going to. His death in that universe was inevitable, though maybe it was for the best. The post-apocalyptic environment seemed to have been traumatizing for him, he wondered if it was even worth living in that world in the first place.

What was the point, if he existed just solely to be treated this way? Maybe that's why this felt like it was the end, or maybe it was the fact that this happened before he had went on more adventures with his friends.

The latter seemed more likely.

He didn't get enough time with them, it was like his life was cut short by some unseen force beyond his or anyone else's control. Like a button had just been pressed that made this season of his life go by way faster than he, or anyone else, wanted it to.

It wasn't fair, it was going so well, and it was going so great. It didn't make sense, and it felt like his life had been cut short.

He just hoped that whenever he was truly gone, that the force that cut his life short wouldn't yank him back out from his grave in the next ten years. When it's time for him to rest, he wants to stay there, not be woken up again for the sake of money or some other greedy act.

After he thought a bit longer, that's when he realized what he wanted. He took a deep breath and looked up at the president of the universe, slightly smiling. "I've decided on what I want my wish to be," he chuckled. "Let me tell you, please, sir, if that's okay."

The president smiled. "Of course, young boy, if that's what you want. You're the winner of the tournament, after all." He bent down and picked up K.O., placing him next to his ear. K.O. closed his eyes for a brief moment, and whispered what he wanted, making the president's expression immediately change.

He pulled him away from his ear. "You do know you could just wish your friends back, right?" He said, making a slight uncomfortable chuckle. "It'll be a much happier ending on your end."

K.O. sighed and shook his head. "I don't deserve a happy ending," he said, looking down. "What's going to happen after this is what I deserve, I killed everyone here, and nothing is ever going to fix the fact I've done this. This is what I want, it's what's best for everyone." He smiled a small smile with the tiny bit of hope that he had left.

"Aw, shucks kid, you positive this is what you want?"

K.O. nodded. "Yes."

"Alright, you're the winner and you can wish for whatever you want, I guess," he said as he sat K.O. back down on the ground. "Go at it, kid, do what makes you feel best."

K.O.'s eyes turned to faint stars as he said his wish out loud. The world around him changed into multiple colors and sparkles seemed to be everywhere. The president sighed, knowing that this would have a much better ending if things turned out better.

The entire world lit up and went white, and the next thing K.O. knew, he had blacked out. He didn't know for how long, but he woke up to the sound of voices in the distance, ones that sounded like his mom and his friends.

He slowly sat up, holding his head tightly. He looked down at himself, letting out a small chuckle. "This is how it's going to end, huh? Just how it was with everyone else, minus the literally vanishing into thin air thing."

"K.O.!"

He looked over and saw his mom, who was crying as she ran up to him. "Oh my cob, K.O., is it really you? Please tell me it's you." She pulled him into a hug as quickly as she could, Mr. Gar watching silently from behind.

"Yeah, haha, it's me." His voice was quiet as he spoke, quickly hugging her as well. "I'm so sorry about what happened, mom."

Carol pulled him out of the hug as soon as Enid and Rad ran over. They were overjoyed to see K.O. back to his normal, pure, and innocent self. K.O. just slightly giggled, before the smile on his face disappeared.

He felt himself starting to get weaker, he knew this was when he had to do what he wanted to do. He walked over to Enid and Rad and hugged their legs, as that was all he could reach. "I just wanted to tell you guys I'm really happy you're my friend, and that you exist."

"Aww, K.O., that's so sweet," Enid said, smiling. "We're happy you exist too, despite the fact that, uh, T.K.O. kinda did what he did "

"Thanks, K.O., though I think I make everyone happy when they know I exist," Rad chuckled.

K.O. just looked over to the side before speaking once again. "You guys were my first ever friends and I'm so grateful about the fact I got a job at Gar's in the first place." He tried his best to not sound like he had just been crying earlier. "You both were always there for me, it's just such a shame we couldn't go on more adventures together."

Enid slightly laughed. "What do you mean, K.O.? We're still friends, we still work at the bodega, we still have a ton of missions we can go on."

K.O. just looked at her sadly, before walking over to Mr. Gar. His colors slowly started to get slightly duller, though at this point it wasn't that noticeable. He also hugged Mr. Gar, who looked down at K.O. and smiled, patting his hair.

"Great hustle out there, kid," he said as he scratched the back of his head, his voice sounding slightly nervous. "Not for almost killing us, but for everything you've done, K.O. I really do care about you, I want to be a father to you, since, you know, you never really had a father in your life."

K.O. felt his eyes tear up again. "No, thank you, Mr. Gar, for being such a good boss." He let go of Mr. Gar's leg and looked up at him. "I've always wanted to be like you, a great hero, I mean. I'd like to think it'd happen one day, but I think that's for another world in another time."

Mr. Gar looked at K.O. and raised an eyebrow. "What are you talking about? You're already a great hero."

This lit up K.O.'s eyes for a brief moment before he shook his head once again. "Not after everything I've done, I don't deserve to be called a hero anymore."

K.O. quickly ran over to his mom, who was on her knees. It was a bit hard for him to actually run because he could feel the energy draining from his body, but he still managed to do it nevertheless.

"Mom," he stood next to her for a moment before pulling her into a hug again.

"Hey, peanut, how are you feeling?"

K.O. ignored his mom's question, instead saying what he's been wanting to say for a long while. "Mom, thank you for bringing me into this world." His voice was softer and a bit weaker than it normally was.

"You've done many great things for me. You gave birth to me, you took care of me, you've always supported me, and you helped me truly understand myself." He pulled away from the hug and looked at her in the eyes. This was when she noticed that his colors were getting duller.

"K.O., sweetie, are you okay?" You could hear the worry in her voice as she spoke. She placed her hand on K.O.'s face, which felt a bit cold.

"I love you, mom," he said, smiling weakly. "But it's almost time for me to go." Enid, Rad, and Mr. Gar noticed the fact his colors were getting gray as well and walked towards K.O., very obviously worried about him.

"K.O., what are you talking about?!" K.O. could see the confusion, fear, and hurt in his mom's eyes. He sighed and looked over to the other three behind him, who were also commenting on the fact his colors were dull to the point they were almost gray.

"I'm so sorry about hurting you all," he spoke. "I know I messed up, I know so much good has happened because of the fact I came here. Unfortunately, I think it's time that I go. I've hurt all of you, many people have hurt me, and this truly feels like it's the end for me."

Everyone looked at K.O. with confusion and sadness. "What are you talking about?" Enid's voice sounded like she was on the verge of crying. "You're still alive, you're still with us."

K.O. smiled once again. "I had a wish, since I won the tournament." He looked down at the ground. "And what my wish was will make everything a lot better for all of you."

There was silence as everyone looked at him, tears forming in their eyes as K.O. visibly became weaker. "This is for the better, and I deserve this. Thank you, all of you, for being my friend. You truly made these past two years not only great for me, but for everyone else that was with us, watching."

"K.O., you haven't even worked at the bodega for a full year!" Rad seemed upset by the fact that K.O. assumed he was working there for longer than he really was.

K.O. fell onto his knees, shaking. His energy was completely drained, he couldn't stay alive much longer. He took a slow, deep breath, and closed his eyes. "I know, Rad, I know."

He fell onto the ground, his body becoming limp. This was his happy ending, this was the end of his adventure, and his life. There's nothing else, nothing more, nothing less, it's over.

He could finally rest.
