PERSONALITY AND CHARACTER ANALYSIS: Charlene is a little naive because she lived a sheltered life before she moved. She sees the good in everyone and everything, but the Socs and Greasers gave her trust issues. She only gets along with a few people in town, but she always tries to keep a chipper demeanor. She disliked conflict, but she won't shy away from it. However, she can be insecure, which makes her vulnerable.

CHARACTER ARC: Charlene Sterling comes from a middle-upper class family. She lived in Wichita, Kansas until she was sixteen years old, when her father lost his job and they had to move to Oklahoma where he found a new job. There, she only got along with a few people, and found herself caught up in a class fight that she did not want to be involved in. She lost her best friend to a racist attack and her boyfriend to a fire. Her parents were never really involved in her personal life because her father was always working and her mother was oblivious. They didn't get involved until it was too late.
