PERSONALITY AND CHARACTER ANALYSIS: Salwa Bahja appreciates life's little moments and likes to look on the bright side. After she lost her family, she hated life and wanted to die, but when she was saved, she slowly found more to live for. She is very passionate about history, architecture, and activism. She does not speak much, but her eyes tell many stories and she is very wise, despite how immature she acts sometimes. She can often be overemotional and overthink things, but she is very sharp for her chronological age.

CHARACTER ARC: Salwa Bahja was born in Damascus, Petra in 1795, when the Muslims were at the height of their power and ruled graciously. Salwa wasn't Muslim, but she was friends with many. Her mother was a Jordanian seamstress and her father was a Palestinian architect, and her descendants were from ancient Egypt. Her father was upper class, but her mother was lower class and married up.
  Salwa had a very cushiony life and was studying to be an architect like her father, until her family's past came back to haunt her. Her distant cousin on her mom's side, from Egypt, came back for revenge. He felt abandoned and was upset that his cousin never gave him any wealth when she married up. He murdered Salwa's whole family and Salwa was barely alive. She was found and turned by Benjamin when she was seventeen years old to save her life.
  Salwa originally hated Benjamin for saving her, but she grew to appreciate him, and befriended his childhood friend Tia, who was also from his coven. Still, Salwa hated being a vampire and didn't want to live without her family. Benjamin caught her trying to committed suicide. She was frustrated when she couldn't and blamed him for making her that way. Ultimately, thanks to Tia, Salwa realized that she shouldn't resent Benjamin for saving her. Salwa and Benjamin grew closer together and eventually married after Salwa got a college degree in architecture. She is now an extremely successful residential architect.
