CHAPTER 14: ORIGIN - SOLAR FLARE
________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

THIRD POV
THE SNOW HAIRED Todoroki stood on the fighting platform after her match, listening to the roars and cheers direct towards only her. The attention, it's like ecstasy in her veins, is a natural high for her. The overwhelming sense of pride that she won her second match, the happiness, it makes tears brim at her icy colored eyes.

Keeping her right hand raised in a fist, she continues grinning, ignoring her father's steely eyes as silent proud tears trail down her cheeks. Every time she rises in victory in this festival, it's only proving to everyone - her classmates, her first year peers, her family - that she's the one to beat.

However, this festival isn't over yet.

No, she smirks. Mine and Shoto's fight is next! There's no excuse in holding back now.

Her tears practically turn to steam as she becomes more determined, and her grin turns to a smirk. Dropping, her raised fist, she clenches her hands at her sides before turning on her heel. Kasai's practically manic as she leaves the platform. Ideas, strategies, swirl in her head like a raging wildfire - determined to burn down her opponent. marching across the field and into the tunnel, Kasai ignores everything as she keeps her head held high.

Climbing the numerous sets of stairs to the viewing area, the pale haired girl can practically feel victory in her veins. She knows that it's foolish to get ahead of herself and be arrogant, but she's confident in her skills. Especially when she's no longer going to hold herself back. She's aware that in her next fight she's going to release all the pent up emotions, because this fight, it's something she's been waiting for practically all her life. Ever since she was casted off as 'not good enough'.

And now, she can prove her father wrong. She is good enough!

Reaching the viewing room with the rest of her classmates, Kasai steps in and immediately, she's bombarded with congratulations from her peers. Mina goes as far as giving the hot tempered girl a hug. The Todoroki gives her friend a tight smile, and inwardly sighs in relief when the latter pulls away. In the middle of her peers, Kasai makes eye contact with a pair of mismatched eyes.

The two Todorokis stare at each other, not wavering. Shoto's indifference clashes with Kasai's frozen glare. They stare for so long that the air around them turns tense, slowly putting a stop to cheery attitude of their classmates. When they notice the change of atmosphere, they find the two siblings staring down the other. They don't know if the air is getting hotter or colder because the tension is so thick that they feel both chills and heat prickling at their bodies.

It's suffocating.

Now they understand the animosity, and if this is just a sliver, then they can't imagine how their home life is like.

In synch, the two Todorokis look away from each other and focus on the arena as Midnight calls for the next match. Kasai gives Mina an encouraging nod, and the latter smiles knowing that her newly acquainted friend is supporting her. When everyone else settles into their seats, they still look at the two siblings with apprehension.

"Man, that was intense, bro. You wouldn't catch me anytime soon trying to fight against either of them," Kirishima mutters as he sits between Bakugou and Sero.

Katsuki just narrows his eyes between the siblings. From what White Out told him about her relationship with her brother, he would have thought that she was exaggerating - even a little - but from what he just saw, he believes her. They acted so cold with each other, the tension was so thick between them that it compared with a block of ice. Not even a knife can slice through it. The ash blond knew what it was like to be on the other side of Kasai's icy glares, but this was different.

He noticed it.

The more this sport's festival kept going, with every task, the girl he called his rival was becoming more unhinged. Sure, he found her fiery temper appealing, but this anger she's displaying was volatile on all levels. He knew what it was like to be angry, so he was aware that a breaking point wasn't that far ahead - and that concerned him. From all his years in knowing the pale haired girl, Bakugou knew that she always kept herself in control, and this pent up anger could create a reaction when it explodes. He just didn't know if the reaction would be good or bad.

"Yeah, Kasai gets pretty scary when she's angry. I mean, look at what she did to Kaminari and Mineta. However, that was expressive anger, and what we saw right now was silent anger, which is worse," Sero states to the redhead.

"Yeah, but hey, how do you think their fight is going to go? Will they hold back or go all out. I mean, they are brother and sister, after all," Kirishima asks, looking between his two friends. "Do you think Todoroki will use his fire side?"

"I don't know. From their staring match it seems that they won't, but one never knows for sure," the raven haired bow shrugs. They look to the ash blond, now noticing his silence.

Bakugou huffs, knowing that shitty hair and tape-for-brains are waiting for his answer. "I don't know about that icy hot bastard, but white out isn't one for holding back! She never did and she won't now, especially not now," he says, crossing his arms.

Kirishima tilts his head, but he discreetly and knowingly smirks at the ash blond. No one knows Kasai better than Bakugou does

"Yeah, I guess you're right," the redhead nods. "She doesn't seem like the one to hold back."

¤ ¤ ¤ ¤ ¤

KEEPING HER FOCUS on the arena, Kasai ignores the chattering of her classmates, who are probably talking about the scene she caused with her brother. It wasn't intentional, it's just that when they made eye contact she got triggered. Her hostility and competitiveness just seemed to intensify with him around.

Shaking her head, the snowy haired girl ignores her thoughts and chooses to focus on Mina's match. The pink girl, if Kasai really thought about it, was like her complete opposite in character. The Todoroki knows that she's tempered whether it be hot or cold. She found it amusing that her twin brother was the one with two quirks, yet she seemed to behave like fire and ice herself. One moment she could be raging like a wildfire, and the next her mood was like sharp ice glaciers.

Though, there were moments where she simmered to a warm medium, and recently today, Mina were the cause of them. They had their similarities with their interests - music, their fighting style, dancing - but they differed. However, the edgy and sweet girl still got along together, and that's all that mattered to the former.

Huffing through her nose, Kasai tries to focus on Mina's match, but her mind is swirling with possibilities for her incoming match. Will Shoto use his fire side? Will he hold back? Probably not. Or maybe, who knows? Will he try to finish the fight as quickly as possible like he did with Sero? Or will he draw it out for as long as he can? Will he try to talk to her? Hopefully not, she doesn't want this to be a Midoriya like situation. That will only anger her, and if gets angry, she will most likely act recklessly and that could possibly mean a loss for her. Will he only attack from a distance? If he's smart, then yes because she's more of a close combat fighter.

Mentally groaning, the girl grows irritated at the endless questions that she's asking. This rivalry she has with her brother, it's causing unnecessary stress. Plus with this sports festival, it's just adding on to the mess she's feeling. Oh, but the recognition that she will win with beating her brother, that's enough reason to feel like she's currently feeling. It's worth it. The look on their father's face when she beats his golden child, it will be a sweet, sweet, victory.

With the reassurance, a tiny smile plays at her lips before her eyes pass over the audience in a thoughtful manner. If only Touya was still around, he definitely would have given me some helpful advice

Glancing back to the arena, she raises her brows in surprise when she sees Mina being pushed back by Tokoyami's Dark Shadow. With a final push, Kasai winces when her friend falls back on her butt, landing out of bounds.

"Mina Ashido is out of bounds! Tokoyami advances to the third round," Midnight announces, making the audience roar with cheers.

The Todoroki girl knew that the pink girl will beat herself up for losing her match, but Kasai was sure that latter will still get offers from heroes. By means, Mina did showcase her quirk during the festivals events - the obstacle race, the human cavalry, and her first match - enough to show everyone what she can do and is capable of. Sure, she knows that her friend would've liked first place, heck everyone wants first place, but realistically, only one can win.

So busy in her thoughts, Kasai completely misses when both Bakugou and Kirishima leave the viewing area to proceed with their match. However, she does snap out of it when the pink toned girl takes a seat next to her. Noticing the latter's defeated posture, the pale girl gives her a small smile.

"Hey, you did your best! From all of the students who participated today, all the first years, you came in seventh place. I understand it's not first, but you're still one of the top ten, and that's something to be proud of, especially since there's more than a hundred first year students," Kasai tells her.

Mina nods at her words and gives an appreciative smile. "Yeah, you're right! Thanks, Kasai. If only Tokoyami and his Dark Shadow weren't too strong enough for me too handle, aw damn it," she whines.

The snowy haired girl chuckles. "Yeah, too bad. Though, let's see how he'll fair in the next round, he's against either Bakugou or Kirishima."

"Mhm. Talking about them, who do you think will win this match," the pink girl asks, looking at the two boys in the arena.

Kasai crosses her arms, setting her turquoise eyes on the ashy blond. "Bakugou," she answers with no hesitation.

Ashido smirks, glancing between the said boy and the girl next to her. "You sure have a lot of confidence that Bakugou will win, are you sure it's nothing else?"

The Todoroki girl raises her brows, confusion written on her face. "What are you talking about?"

Mina scoffs, rolling her eyes in amusement. "Please, everyone noticed how you and Bakugou went from yelling in each other's faces to casually talking, a major change from the first day of school. And I also notice how close you two usually are, you're always around each other. So tell me, are you and Bakugou involved," she says, whispering the last part whilst raising her pinky finger.

Immediately, Kasai's face turns scarlet as she stutters in shock. The idea of her being romantically involved with her blond rival makes her feel like her skin is on fire. Of course she noticed how good looking Bakugou was, she wasn't blind, and good looking was an understatement. But to think that people suspect her and him to be doing god knows what, well that alone makes her wants her to faint. She's not opposed to it, but she cannot begin to comprehend the idea of actually doing it.

"W-w-what?! O-of course not! W-we're just friends, rivals at most," Kasai exclaims in a loud whisper, her face still a shade of crimson.

Mina  smirks widely. "But you want to, don't you?"

"I-I have no idea what you're talking about," the pale teen quickly denies.

"Oooh! Two hot heads in a relationship, the chemistry between you two will be so steamy! So hot! Kasai and Bakugou sitting on a tree K-I-S-S-"

"S-shut up," Kasai yells, quickly placing her hand over Mina's mouth.

Oh, Kami, this girl is going to be the death of me, she thinks in embarrassment.

¤ ¤ ¤ ¤ ¤

AFTER THREATENING MINA into a code of silence,  Kasai watched the last minutes of the match between Bakugou and Kirishima. The fight itself went on for a hefty while, mostly because Kirishima hardened his body to repel Bakugou's explosions. Though, now that the turquoise eyed girl spectated, she noticed that the red haired boy was straining his body, overusing his quirk, and she's positive that the ash blond noticed it as well.

After all, like the class discussed earlier during Midoriya's and her brother's match, quirks are physical functions, and eventually they tire out.

So as the girl watches Bakugou release explosion after explosion on Kirishima's weakening body, crosses her arms and digs her nails into her elbows. Each blast is like the seconds counting down on a clock, boom - tick, boom - tick. It makes her heart race in anticipation, her veins pump with adrenaline, and her stomach flutters with nerves.

It's almost time. Just this match, and the final four will be determined, Kasai thinks, biting her lip. Then, it's the start of the third round, the semi finals

The flurry of massive explosions comes to an end when Bakugou yells, releasing one final finishing blow. It's enough to knock Kirishima back into an unconscious state.

"Kirishima has been knocked out! Bakugou is the winner!" Midnight judges the end of the match, making the audience roar with cheers.

Though, Kasai could hear a voice from the 1-B class reprimanding the red haired boy for losing... she'll just ignore that.

"With that vicious carpet bombing, Bakugou advances to the third round! Ladies and gentlemen, our final four," Present Mic voices, informing the crowd.

As he does, a picture of the final four show up on a holographic screen. Kasai looks up to see her picture, and ironically, it's facing her brother's picture. It's like they're staring at one another. After Shoto's, it's Tokoyami, then Bakugou.

With a final inhale, and exhale, the snowy haired girl rises from her seat and turns away to leave.

"You can do it, Kasai! Show everyone that fierce girl power and win for us girls," Mina exclaims.

"Good luck, Todoroki," Momo says from her seat.

"Yeah, we'll be cheering you on," Uraraka informs, punching the air. Tsuyu nods from behind her, "yeah, ribbit."

The girl nods in appreciation, "thanks, I'll give it my all."

With that, Kasai walks out of the viewing area with her heart racing. The support of her female classmates are enough to give her a little boost of confidence. She's talked the talk, and now she needs to walk the walk about beating her brother in this fight. To show everyone that she's not just crying wolf, but that she can actually prove that she's better than him! To show her father that she's better than his prized golden child! That she's worthy enough to become a hero! To show him that she didn't need all of his training to make this far! To show him that she can gain victories all on her own without his help!

So, by the time she walks out of the tunnel into the arena, there's a fire in her body that's burning with pure determination.

She's ready!

This time the cheers and roars of the audience don't turn to white noise, no this time they're deafening. She's hyperaware of everything. From the crowd, to the sound of her heartbeat, even to the hairs on the back of her neck. It's the adrenaline. Her flight or fight instincts - though instead of fleeing, her instincts are all amped up for fighting. Especially now, when she's standing across from her brother with a glare on her face.

"The first match of the semi-finals! Both come from the same family, making this a battle of sibling versus sibling! From class 1-A, Shoto Todoroki! Versus his sister and classmate! Kasai Todoroki!"

Kasai breathes in, assessing her brother. She's well aware of his fighting style, to bombard the opponent with ice floes and try to win as quickly as possible. Though, she's also aware of him using his flames as of recent, but that shouldn't hinder her. She actually wants him to use flames, to give it his all!

"Start," Present Mic exclaims.

This time the crowd silences as Kasai tunes them out, her only priority being this fight. Before she can make a move. Shoto starts it off by creating a wave of icy floes to her left. Narrowing her turquoise gaze, she instinctively moves her body towards the right, only to be closed off with a similar wall of ice. Gritting her teeth at the predictability, Kasai glares at her brother.

So, he's trying to finish this quickly, huh, the snowy haired girl huffs. It doesn't leave me many options

"Kasai's been surrounded! Is this match over before it begins?" Present Mic spectates whilst Shoto releases another wave of ice. "Shoto's going in for the win already!"

Kasai glares at the incoming spikes, smirking. "Not quite."

Raising her right hand, she releases a burst of fiery white flames. When the two elements meet only a few feet away from her, they collide and create an explosive reaction of hot and cold, cracking the ice all the way back to Shoto. Rushing forward with her slice of opportunity, Kasai runs to close the distance between them and swiftly attacks with a fire coated kick. Though, Shoto anticipates her move and dodges it seamlessly.

Don't give him an opening, Kasai grits her teeth before twisting her body, switching foots and instantly delivering another kick. Right foot moving fast, it harshly connects to Shoto's jaw which successfully throws him to the ground in a heap. It resounded in the air like a crack of a whip.

In the viewing area, their classmates gasp at the brutal move.

"I didn't know she could kick like that," Kaminari breathes out, stunned.

"I guess Kasai isn't pulling back any of her punches on this one. She's being completely brutal," Sero comments.

Endeavor growls at the sight of Kasai having the upper hand. He knows that he didn't train her to fight, so that leaves him wondering to how she can fight this well. Was he really that ignorant of his daughter, that he didn't know anything about her?

On the ground, Shoto tries to counter his sister's advancement by touching the ground, producing a sheer layer of frozen matter. The ice races towards Kasai's body, wanting to freeze her in place, but the girl scowls and does a series of backflips to create a hefty distance. Noticing that the ice is still creeping her way, she consciously lights her boots on fire - just like she did in the obstacle race. If it worked then, it'll work now.

"Are you that stupid by trying to freeze me over? Hah! I'll let you know now, Shoto... my flames are too hot for your ice quirk!"

After saying that she races over, her steps melting the ice, and proceeds to ignite her fists. Closing the distance, once again, Kasai uses her rage to deliver punch after flaming punch towards her twin. However, with a cool head, Shoto dodges them by stepping around the punches, which only makes her angrier.

"Stop holding back and fight me! Take this seriously, or am I not good enough for you like Midoriya was?! Huh, is that it? You think he's better than me! I mean, you did use your fire on him," Kasai huffs, sending another blast of fire towards him.

Shoto frowns, his eyes narrowing. She wants him to use his fire? Is she working with their father against him? No, that's not it, their relationship is too strained to even consider that.

"Use your damn fire, Shoto! Use it, and I'll show you that even with your fire, that I'm better than you! That I'm better than Dad's masterpiece," Kasai yells, her turquoise eyes wild and her smile manic.

So that's why, Shoto narrows his eyes.

Dodging his sister's flames once again, the boy quickly takes a hold of her outstretched fist and grips it. Encasing his right fist with ice, Shoto takes his hand and delivers a sukerpunch to his sister's shocked face. Letting her go, his mismatched gaze watches as she tumbles to the ground with a sickening crack.

Pain is what she feels. Sharp blooming pain similar to a pressing iron. On the ground on her hands and knees, Kasai lifts one hand to her nose and she's immediately met with a wet sensation. Blood, red and oozing. The pain makes sense now... her brother broke her nose.

Kasai chuckles, and stumbles up to a standing position as she ignores the blood dripping from her nostrils.

"I see things are getting a little rough as Shoto Todoroki delivers a good whopper to Kasai Todoroki's face! Though a little blood isn't slowing her down!"

"What an affective way to use your ice, brother," Kasai grins, "but let's see what damage you can do with your fire!"

Twisting her arms out in front of her, the girl turns her body before sending a large torrent of solar flames, then another, then she steps forward, spins and leads another torrent towards him as if her flames were a dragon before releasing the body of fire at her brother. She expects him to use his fire to extinguish her flames, but she's left disappointed when she watches him use ice to deflect her flames upwards, making them thin out to nothing. The way he simply pushes her flames away like nothing, it bothers her. She feels like he's doing that to her; pushing her aside.

Glaring, Kasai bares her teeth in a silent snarl, he thinks I'm not good enough! To him I'm nothing

With anger in mind and red in her vision, the Todoroki girl rushes forward practically steaming, her blood boiling. I'll show him who's good enough! All she sees is red, red, red! Yelling, Kasai meets her brother before throwing punch after punch. Her actions are fast, leaving Shoto no space to make his move, but they're erratic and wild. Push him back, force him to use his flames

"Whoa! Kasai Todoroki has him on the defense! Will this rapid onslaught be the finishing turn of the match?" Present MIc yells, hyping the crowd.

"Even though she prefers close combat and he with his long range attacks, both Todorokis are skilled fighters. So this match can go on for a while, it's just up to them and how they use their quirks," Aizawa comments, already knowing their fighting styles.

From the spectating audience, Endeavor frowns at the turn out. He, too, expected Shoto to use his flames after his second match, but disappointment filled him when he only noticed the use of his ice quirk. He's also surprised that Shoto hasn't brittled over with how long this fight has going on, maybe that's a good side of fighting Kasai, her flames are hot enough to use as a counter against his side effects. The heat of the flames she throws at him are enough to melt the ice covering him.

Throwing a flaming punch at Shoto, Kasai narrowly misses as he tilts his head to the left, dodging it. However, her right hand of encased white flames barely touch whisps of his red hair, too close to his scar. That triggers him and instinctively, the older twin releases a raging wave of ice.

Too slow and close to move away, Kasai is immediately thrown back as the ice hits her at point blank.

"Whoa-oh! And turn of events folks! Todoroki takes the upper hand as he lands a crushing blow to his sister! Even I felt that icy hit to her body!"

Kasai hits the floor in a breathless heap, her body rolling at the other side of the arena. Groaning at the soreness of her new blooming bruises, she endures the pain as she pushes herself up to her knees before stumbling back to a standing position. The hit to her body was so harsh that she could swear that she saw flashes of her childhood flicker behind her eyes. Even though she had to push for her brother to hit back, Kasai laughs at the pain. She grins.

"Now, that's more like it! How about you give me your all this time, Shoto," she yells, spreading her arms out, almost daring him.

Though, before he can respond, the ivory haired girl runs to the center. Narrowing his mismatched eyes, Shoto frowns and meets her halfway.

"Why are you doing this? Why are you pushing me to use my fire side," he asks genuinely.

"Because I want to beat you at your full power! I want to show our dad that I'm better than you, that I'm not a failure! Because compared to you, I've always been second place and I finally want to be first! I want to be better," Kasai confesses, tears shedding angrily down her cheeks. "And to prove myself, you have to use your fucking flames! Even if I have to force you!!"

Shoto glares. "I won't use my fire-"

"Bullshit, you used them on Midoriya! Use them," she yells, punching him across the face. He staggers, but she picks him up by the collar and punches him to the ground. She then kicks his crumpled form and sneers. "Use them, you piece of shit! Before I fucking make you!"

"This is getting hard to watch," Ochaco says from her seat, her hands almost covering her face.

"I knew she got scary, but man, this is brutal," Kirishima winces as Kasai lands another hit on her brother.

Even the heroes are murmuring their dislike of her actions.

"She's going too far!"

"It's very unsportsman like of her to kick her opponent while he's down!"

"She's becoming too unhinged! She's behaving too much like a villain!"

"Why doesn't she just push him out of bounds and end his misery!"

"Boo!"

Kasai ignores the jeers from the audience. The comments of being like a villain, she's grown accustomed to them from middle school, they mean nothing! If they can't handle a fight, then they shouldn't even be here! Yeah, her methods are a bit on the brutal side, but that doesn't make her evil, right? She knew her hot temper always brought controversy on her life, people always told her she could pass off as a villain. Her past even said so. But she wants to be a hero...right?

Faltering, at the passing thoughts, Kasai lowers her head and clenches her fists. The jeers were right, she is becoming unhinged. Before this festival, her thoughts were clear, her emotions steady, but now she's a mess.

She's becoming lost.

Unsuspecting to her, Shoto takes her moment of hesitance and springs back up, only to deck her across the face. Completely stunned, Kasai stumbles back from the punch and raises a hand to her aching cheek. Breathing, her shock turns to a seething expression.

Yes, she's lost in her anger.

Though, before she can attack, Shoto's already ahead of her. One second, she's preparing to cross fists with her brother, and the next she's seeing blue. Stretching out his hand, Shoto quickly uses his signature move, and freezes Kasai's body in a layer of thick glaciers. The audience, and their classmates, all gasp at the sudden turn of the match.

Unlike with Sero where one could see him, Kasai was completely covered in the ice barrage.

It's cold.

¤ F L A S H B A C K ¤

IN THE TODOROKI household, the atmosphere always seemed to be tense, but that was unknown to the youngest children, the twins. They were barely at the age of four, but unlike any other day, today was the day where the girl of the duo discovered her quirk.

Kasai, who was dressed warmly in a red dress and white sweater, played in the courtyard with her oldest brother Touya. It snowed the day before, so she was currently making a snowman. So, as she gathered snow in her already numbed hands, she piled it onto the beginning form of her wobbly snowman. Though, as she did, her hands started heating up and the snow in her gloves started to melt.

Shocked, Kasai turned her palms upwards and watched as her gloves suddenly caught aflame. Instead of screaming in fear, the girl squealed in delight. Her cry of happiness startled the older red haired boy, making him rush over to his little sister.

"Kasai, what's wrong," Touya asked, worry in his voice.

"Nii-san, look! I got a quirk! I got fire like you and dad," she squealed, her eyes twinkling in awe. She practically shoves her hands in his face, "isn't it awesome!?"

The teen chuckles, smiling down at his doe eyed sister. "It sure is, little flare."

Kasai tilts her head, confused. "Flare?"

"Yeah, it's something that burns very bright. Just like you," Touya explains before poking her nose.

"Awe! I'm a flare! It's not fair, I don't have a name for you," she pouts.

Touya smiles, grabbing her hands and extinguishing her white flames before she accidentally burns herself. "As long as I'm your big brother, I don't need another name, alright?"

Kasai smiles up at him, their blue eyes clashing. "Yeah. You'll always be big brother Touya!"

¤

"IT'S NOT FAIR," Kasai huffs, now at age six.

She storms outside to the courtyard where Touya sat under the tree. It was their spot as they claimed it years ago, some place where they can always find each other. Hearing his sister, the teen turns his head to see Kasai stomping up to him. Curious, he indulges her.

"What's not fair?"

"Dad, that's who! Why is he only focusing on Shoto?! I have a fire quirk, too, yet he pays me no mind! It's not fair," she cries out.

The red haired boy sighs knowingly. "What do you need help on," he asks, placing down his book.

The white haired girl blushes, embarrassed. "I-I don't need help!"

"Kasai, I can tell that you're lying, plus I saw your burned hands," he smirks, chuckling.

"Shut up," she pouts. That's before she sighs, looking at her hands in a dejected manner. "I wanted to show dad a new move with my quirk, but I got burned. And instead of helping me, he just told me to go away, to stop wasting his time."

Touya grabs her hands in his own and smiles down at her. "Hey, fire will always burn no matter how you use it, but it doesn't always have to hurt," he tells her.

"That makes no sense. How can fire burn, but not hurt," she questions, turning to look up at him.

"Look," he says, taking his hands off of hers before turning his left palm upwards. Kasai watches in awe as a small blue ember ignites on her brother's palm. "Fire can burn bright, but the flame isn't always painful. Sometimes it can be used as a source of light, to warm when we're cold, or to just be."

"It's beautiful," Kasai says, allowing her fingers to gently touch it.

He's right, the flame wasn't painful as it emitted a soft warmth.

"But that doesn't change the fact that he only focuses on Shoto," Kasai frowns.

Touya huffs, shaking his head. "That's because dad sees Shoto as this shiny masterpiece that he doesn't realize the potential you hold," he informs as he twirls his fingers, playing with his blue flames.

The six year old raises her eyebrows, confused. "What?"

The boy chuckles. "What I'm saying is that everyone shines differently."

"And Shoto, he's shiny?"

"Right now, yes," Touya laughs at her confused expression. "But one day you'll shine like the sun, little flare." He smiles softly at her.

Kasai smiles, too.

Like the sun.

¤ FLASHBACK END ¤

THE AUDIENCE MURMURED as a silence fell over the arena. It's been seconds since Kasai got frozen in glacier floes, and Midnight was close to calling the match over. Though before she can, the sickening sounds of cracking echoed through the stadium. Looking to the ice, everyone saw large crescents cracking in the ice. As seconds passed, new indentations got created - crack, crack, crack!

And finally, the icy floes exploded in flames. Currents of frozen wind rushed to the audience, bit that wasn't what had them gasping.

No, it was Kasai, her body burned bright like sun with fiery embers. However, instead of burning white, she glowed with iridescent blue flames.

The sight alone had everyone stunned in shock, especially Endeavor. Of course he knew that blue fire where the hottest of flames, he used them from time to time when he needed to, but the sight of them made him think of his oldest son. Even more so when Kasai shared similarities with the boy.

"Whoa-oa! What's this?! Kasai Todoroki is using blue fire! Is this an effect to being encased in ice, or is this her quirk evolving in front of us?! This is very exciting, folks," Present Mic exclaims eagerly.

Kasai narrows her ever-growing eyes and sneers. "Fine, if you won't give me your all, Shoto, then it'll be me who gives you my full power," she yells.

Why try to force someone to do something when all they'll do is push back. The fight is meaningless, she can move on from whatever her brother is doing and just focus on being her best.

Ignoring the pain of her burning skin and the heat of these blue flames, she launches herself towards her brother.

"No more holding back! Enough's enough," Kasai professes before shooting a torrent of pure azure.

It's wave after wave.

The flames feed off her raging emotions like a wildfire in a forest.

Shoto tries to fight back with his ice, but the sapphire embers are too hot. His ice melts before making any impact. They're practically useless in this heat. He could feel his sister's rage with her fire, he could see it too. Unlike her white flames that shoot elegantly and in whisps, these are rabid and attack mercilessly.

Being pushed back with every barrage, Shoto glares. As another wave of scalding blue flames near him, he grits his teeth and inevitably releases a wave of his own blazing embers.

"Look at that, folks! This sibling duel has turned to a fight of fire with fire!!! The stakes are getting hot in this competition!"

Kasai grins manically at the sight of red flames. Finally!

Racing forward, the two siblings meet in the middle once again. However, unlike last time where they met with opposing elements, the clash in a flurry of red and blue. Heat versus heat. Fire versus fire.

Integrating her flames into her boots, Kasai rockets past her brother and around, surrounding him in a sea of blue fire. Shoto tries to shoot her down with his blasts, but she's been at this fire game for a longer time.

Ignoring the blistering pain on her arms, Kasai smirks. This is it!

Coming to a stop, the white and blue ombre haired girl uses all of her built up rage and built up heat as she stands before her brother. She can see him ready to attack, but this is her moment.

Burn bright like the sun!

"Solar Heat! Burning Starfire," she yells as she produces the biggest, brightest, hottest, torrent of sapphire flames.

Blue and red clash in the middle and everyone in the audience can feel the heat slam at their faces. The sight could be described as beautiful if it wasn't a fight, but it is.

Seething, Kasai winces as her skin blisters at the heat, dark patches blooming on her forearms but she pushes it aside. Forcing more heat, she grits her teeth as she steps forward towards the middle. With each step that she takes it forces Shoto back as he can't handle the heat.

With a final cry, Kasai ignores the fact that her pale skin burns darker, and pushes all her power towards Shoto.

There's a moment of silence, a millisecond where Shoto staggered in his steps, but it was enough to allow the pressure of the two blasts to push him back. One second where he had two feet on the arena, and the next where he was sent flying out of bounds.

As the fires die out, Kasai watches as her brother's body falls on the grass in a steaming thud. Her own body is burned and steaming, but noise around her fades out, only hearing the spectating voice.

"Shoto Todoroki is out bounds! And advancing to the final round is, Kasai Todoroki," Midnight calls out, making the stadium roar with cheers.

She's stunned.

And she laughs in unbelief, tears blurring her vision. She actually did it! She beat him! As the win sets in, Kasai grins in accomplishment and she ignores the pain of her burned arms as she lifts them both up in victory.

"Hell yeah," she laughs, her eyes meeting her father's. Look at me now, dad!

In a darkened bar, equally blue eyes stare at the screen of a television with her picture on the screen.

"It seems you're a lot stronger now, little flare. I always knew you'd shine as bright," the man smirks.

Whoop de whoo! Look who updated! Chapter Fourteen, whoo! And sooooorrrry that I took months to update, I apologize sincerely, I mean it!

Anywho!

How'd you like it?

Looks like Kasai and Shoto have even more tension than before - Oof!

Mina and Kasai, they are friendship goals, I love them. They totally go well together!

But Oof - Mina totally knows what's up with Kasai crushing towards Bakugou! Kirishima seems to know as well, not as much, but he see the chemistry!

Also, the fight between Shoto and Kasai, I tried to write it as well as I saw it in my head! Sorry if it seemed prolonged or dry. I just had so many possibilities on how it could've turned out, or what I could have made them do, but ugh! Sorry if it sucked!

And ooh! She's uses blue fire! How awesome is that! Though, I'll just let you know, her quirk did NOT evolve, or change, her flames just intensified in heat. By means, blue fire is hotter than white fire - and note Endeavor does use blue fire too. And oh, she's getting skin burned too - is she gonna have scars in the future, who knows?!

Oof, I did some flashbacks! I just wanted to show you guys more of her relationship with Touya. And if you note, chapter title Solar Flare, that's a spoiler for her Hero Name - something that Touya inspired.

And oof, who's that fella in the end?

Anyways, that's all for today, so don't forget to COMMENT, VOTE, and FAN!!!

ADIOS, MIS AMIGOS, until next time! (And remember to be safe, and to take care of yourselves!)
