They were closing in on their destination.

"Just what exactly are we gonna do there?"

"I'm gonna take a closer look at the mechwarriors from yesterday."

"Okay. What will that do?"

"We'll find out more about them."

"Okay. Just so you know, I'm not using one again."

"Yeah. I'm fine with that."

Ray and Kayla park their bikes and proceed to the secret entrance of the lab.

"What about the strange blue liquid it injected us with?"

"We'll find out what that was too"

"This place is creepy!"

"A sci-fi novel is only good if there's creepy places, like this, in it."

"But this isn't a novel."

"I know."

The lab was the same as before. There had been no changes in it at all. The mechwarriors were still there. Ray takes out his flare gun. He fires it above him and a small ball of pure light escapes. It follows them as they walk around the lab.

"How long do you think it's been since someone's been here?"

"Just yesterday."

"I'm not talking about us."

"Well, it's been a long while since someone opened that door."

"Just how long?"

"My carbon-dating machine tells me the dust here is almost 10 years old."

"You have a carbon-dating machine?!"

"Well, duh. I'm a scientist."

"Of course. That makes sense."

They approach the mechwarriors and Kayla sits on the ground nearby.

"Do you think there's someone else living in this lab?"

"Nope. My thermal scans show nothing."

"There could be a cold-blooded monster."

"My motion sensors didn't show anything either."

"Maybe it's sleeping."

"Good. Let's let it sleep then."

"I'm just sayin' ya know."

"I understand fully."

Lyon takes out a shrinked ladder and uses it to climb up on the machine. He inspects the bullet marks on it carefully.

"I smell something fishy."

"Me too."

"What is it?"

"I think it's coming from the puddle of fuel under it. It must have leaked in the battle."

"Yeah. I kinda hit your tank yesterday."

"Excellent."

"I was trying to cover you. It was an honest mistake."

"Sure. I'll patch up the tank."

"Why don't determine the age of the fuel?"

"Yeah. That's a good idea."

"We might know how long it's been since they've been refueled"

Ray runs the carbon-dating machine on the fuel. It gives out an answer that the fuel is not more than a day old.

"That's weird."

"What is it? What happened?"

"It's saying that the fuel is only a day old."

"That's impossible."

"I know. Could someone have added it just yesterday? Kayla did you do it?"

"Do I look like I'm carrying a fuel can with myself?"

"No, I mean we did black out for a while yesterday. You could have done something then."

''Like what?"

"Like there must be some in this facility that you used."

"I think your machine is broken."

"I guess you're right. There's no way it could have been only a day old."

Ray climbs up again and peeks into the cockpit. He opens it and starts looking around."

"Speaking of yesterday, do you remember a needle going in your bloodstream?"

"I do. I thought I was hallucinating."

"Me too, but I remember that there was a blue liquid inside it."

"I'll see if I can find something of that description."

"Where did all the fancy weapons and attachments go?"

"I think they only appear when someone activates them."

"Were they in dust when we discovered them?"

"Nope."

"Sweet cheese! Someone did place these mechwarriors yesterday!"

"Kayla, look over there." Ray points towards a tarp on the floor.

"What is that thing?!"

"It's the cover I pulled off it yesterday."

"Oh."

"Do you understand now?"

"Yep. My mistake."

"What is interesting is that I can't see the cover which was on your mechwarrior around here."

"Did you take it home?"

"Kayla, why would I take it home?"

"I don't know. For some sciency stuff I guess."

"Well whatever. I'm sure it's insignificant. It must be lying around here somewhere."

"Did you find anything yet?"

"Nope. I'm gonna need more time."

"I don't have a lot of time. I need to go back home soon."

"Yes, I know."

Kayla stands up and starts examining the robot with him.

She enters the cockpit and checks around.

"Ooh what does this button do?"

"Whatever it is, don't press it."

"Too late."

A drawer flings open from the side where Ray was hanging from, throwing him to the floor

"My back! Ouch."

"I didn't mean for that to happen!"

"I'm sure you didn't."

"I'm so sorry."

"It's fine. What did you find?"

"This little drawer like thing opened up on mech."

"Hold on. I'll check it out."

Ray climbs again on the mechwarrior.

"Don't throw me off this time."

"Fine. Look inside."

"Okay."

"Well what did you find?"

"I'm still looking. There's a lot of things here."

"Like what?"

"Like wires, tubes and nuts. You know, the usual things found in a machine."

"Oh I thought it would be something interesting."

Kayla and Ray are indulged in the mysteries of the mechwarrior. They want to find the meaning behind it's presence.

"Let's check the other mechwarrior."

"I'm hungry. I wanna go home."

"Kayla, we'll leave after I check the other one."

"Can't we do this tomorrow?"

"But the specimen are still fresh. It's vital that we do it now."

"Can you find any recordings of yesterday's events?"

"I did find cameras on these machines, but I've not been able to get inside them."

"Try it again."

Kayla looks around the abandoned lab, hoping to find a clue of some sort. The flare floating in the air is the only source of light around. It is becoming dimmer and dimmer by the minute.
