"Up the stairs... faster... faster..." A voice panted in desperation while the clicking of their shoes echoed through the thin stairway. "We're almost... there!" Shouting, Wyvon held down the handle of the door, and pushed it open angrily, allowing him to go on the school roof. "Backlion!"
Backlion turned to face Wyvon. "Spectral Duke!" He commanded.
"Yes sir." The black-armoured, bipedal dragon raised his hand into the chilling air. Soon, black, swirling dust slowly gathered into a bloodied, frightening metal scythe. "You won't be able to touch Backlion anytime soon!"
"We'll see about that..." Wyvon used his cutlass to try and slice Spectral Duke Annihilation. With the neon green blade grazing against the tough and thick armour, scratch was barely made.
"Nightrose... I'm disappointed by your choice of vessel!" Spectral Duke raised his scythe into the air and moved it down in lightning speed fashion. A flicker of orange sparks and the sound of.clashing of metal was heard instead of a gruesome flesh tearing noise. Standing in between the scythe and Wyvon was Serena, using the flat side of Gavrail's scissor blades to protect herself.
"A one on one against someone whose way more underhanded? This is some sort of joke right?" Serena grit her teeth while she narrowed her eyes against the dragon. Meanwhile lurking in the sky silently was Rino, waiting for the perfect moment to attack with his weapon.
"One clean shot..." Rino whispered as he pointed his gun down at Backlion. "I'll end this nightmare..."
"Fire now!" Gear Eagle commanded. Rino widened his eyes then narrowed them, taking aim and pressing the trigger with a clean finger movement. Smoke came from the top of the bronze barrel.
"I'll see you in hell..."A bullet had launched from the weapon. Small and golden, it cut through the air and headed straight for the back of Backlion's head.
"Did you honestly think I'd be that easy to beat?" Backlion turned around to look up at Rino as an insane grin crept up on his face. His lips tightly curled into a devious smile as he held his pale coloured hand out. On the palm was a dark purple flame flickering slowly. As the bullet approached him, Backlion made the flames expand into shield to protect himself. As it entered the firewall, the bullet had burnt up into dust, and Backlion left the attack unscathed.
"What the-?!" Rino said with gritted teeth and an angered expression. He took aim for another shot. However, the sound of flesh being pierced was quickly followed up. Gaping out of Rino's mouth was a thin, red liquid, and inside of him was a large scythe blade piercing his stomach. Spectral Duke removed the blade, and Rino soon fell downwards to the school roof with a loud thud. His weak body laid on the floor while he was paralysed with pain. "...how..." He gasped for air in agony as the boy's abdomen was bleeding out, and pink, stringy guts leaked and covered the floor. Rino looked around him. Wyvon was laying on the ground out cold, with cuts and bruises on his head, and Serena was lying on the floor, with a pool of blood slowly trickling from under her. "No... no... NO! IT WASN'T SUPPOSED TO END LIKE THIS!" Out of the corner of his eye, Rino could see Spectral Duke Annihilation drowned in violet flames. The source of the flames were Backlion. Closing his eyes, Rino grit his teeth and muttered underneath his breath, "Someone... save us...."

Outside, Shika and Ryu were looking on the horizon of the night as swarms of units came to invade Earth due to the portal being opened.
"What massive units..." Ryu mumbled. "We're tiny in comparison..." He looked up at the grandiose units who started to cause terror and destruction on the city.
"Let's try and summon our avatars now, Ryu." Shika put a hand on his friend's shoulder while he grinned with confidence, even at a dire time like this one. "Come on out, Giant, Rising Great Star!" Letting of Ryu's shoulder, Shika shouted at the skies with closed eyes.
"Alright then... I'll imagine it! Ultimate Raizer, Mega-Flare!" Ryu shouted in the direction of the horizon line with closed eyes. With large shadows casting over two, the duo turned around to see Rising Great Star and Mega-Flare standing behind them.
"My vanguard..." Mega-Flare picked up Ryu. Opening his cockpit, he placed Ryu inside. "Shall we begin?!"
"Oh my god!" Ryu looked inside of the robot. "This is so cool!"
"Let's crush em together!" Rising Great Star smirked at Shika. He picked him up and carried him on his shoulder. "So, whose gonna be tackled today?!" And thus, Mega-Flare and Great Star started charge and rush in to fight units, holding them off while people were evacuating the city.

"What just happened...?!" Inside the infirmary of the school, Rukia looked at Yza with raised eyebrows and a gaping mouth. "Your wounds.. healed!"
"...yeah." Yza wiped his mouth. "Since the barrier between Cray and Earth broke, I assume heal triggers could heal you, or something along those lines," He looked at Rukia. "Which is why I tried it out. I feel a lot better..."
"You should still rest-"
"No! I'm not gonna stand around and do nothing while everyone else is risking their lives to fight that maniac. I'm going after Backlion." Yza exclaimed. He got out of the bed, and slowly clicked his back, a tight popping sound coming from it.
"You're way too weak... you can't go!" Rukia shouted back at him.
"I don't care... As long as I'm cooped up under the destruction, I might as well be dead. If I can try...I could just... do something!" Yza shouted.
"But you have to value your life... Dying for no reason won't help anybody!"
"But I might die trying to stop the end of of the world... I think that's a good enough reason." He looked at her with an apologetic face. "Besides. What about everyone else? They value their life too... But they want to stop him."
"...I guess."
"C'mon. We'll go together." Yza reached out his hand to her. Smiling with worry, Rukia took his hand and stood up.
"If we're fast, we can join Serena, Wyvon and Rino." Rukia explained.
"There's no time to waste then!" Yza opened the infirmary door and the two ran down the school corridors to the nearest spiralling tower of stairs. Reaching one, Yza and Rukia ran upwards on them, sparing no time to take a break from the journey to take a breather.
"Damn school... having three floors and the infirmary being on the first...." Yza laughed in vain as the two were on the second level.
"Just one more level...." Rukia and Yza kept running to the roof.

"Now I await for the anomaly." Backlion sat in his throne with a bored expression. Spectral Blaster "Diablo" stood beside him.
"If I can ask sir... why Yza?"
"...Good question..." Backlion looked at Spectral Blaster "Diablo". "However, it's the wrong question."
"How so?"
"The correct question is... Why there?"
"Why there...?"
"Why did Shooting Star Dragon place his clan there... Did he know this was going to happen? Or was it pure fate that he ended up with Yza..."
"..." Spectral Blaster "Diablo" simply nodded as the silence continued. After all this time, it seemed like Backlion was in peace. However, it didn't last long. The creaking of the door ruined the tranquility, and the exhausted breath of Yza filled the quiet air. Rukia looked around in shock while all Yza could focus on was his final enemy.
"It took you awhile." Backlion stood up and walked towards Yza with his hands in his pockets. Yza looked at Rukia.
"Take those three into the school... We have to save their lives." He whispered to her.
"I'm not leaving you alone with him..." Rukia muttered. "I'll treat them up here. Who knows what he'll do..."
"Fair enough ..."
"Not gonna say hello to an old friend?" Yza turned his head to face Backlion.
"Backlion." Yza took out his deck box. "Fight me."
"So we were thinking the same..." Backlion presented his FiCa. Emerging from the ground was a fight table with two chairs under them. Taking a seat, both players started to shuffle their decks. Yza looked uneasy while Backlion had a confident grin. Rukia was treating the three who were injured. Spectral Blaster stood behind Backlion.
"Shall we begin?"
"Of course we should..."

"Pedigree Knight, Tigresse!" Backlion declared, the vanguard circle expanding black.
"Shadow... Paladin? Claret Sword while it's at it?" Yza raised a brow. "This is strange... I thought you used Gold Paladin..."
"Can't a guy change his deck?" Backlion laughed as he drew a card. "Ride, Night Sky and move Tigresse back. Ending my turn."

"Stand and draw! War is peace. Freedom is slavery. Ignorance is strength. Ride my avatar! Supremacy Dragon, Claret Sword Dragon Revolt!" Backlion declared. The vanguard circle expanded a clear colour.

On top of a tower made from dark brown rocks, stood a bipedal dragon. His spiked armour shone a silver-blue, and highlights of sky blue fitted along the sharp edges, and a torn cape came out of his back like wings, coloured in a ocean blue. Coming from the centre of his chest was dark blue flames that covered his face. Small, blue eyes could be seen while the fire danced around a ruby choker and grey chest piece. In his left hand, was a claret red sword, and it's beautiful blade was covered in black robes which were torn and ripped apart.
"The tears of blood, they don't stop." Claret Sword Dragon Revolt lifted his sword into the air. "The end is now."

"Stand and draw! Chivalrous dragon that shines on this world! Step forth into the light where the darkness meets it's end!" Putting a card on the vanguard circle, it expanded a bright rainbow colour. "Ride my avatar! Prism Balance Breaker, Shooting Star Dragon!"

Emerging across Claret Sword was a sky-borne dragon shining in every colour imaginable. His body shimmered from head to toe like a bright star, and his four thin, sharp wings were massive, expanding and shedding rainbow coloured light on the floor like a prism. In his right hand was a double sided lance, it too the same colour as the dragon.
"What comes after the rain, is a rainbow." He announced, before being engulfed in a bright blue light.

"Splendid... Even your avatar has evolved!" Backlion giggled as he looked at the card.
"On ride skill! Take one of your damage and turn it face down until end of turn!" Yza declared.
"Done."
"Generation Zone, unleash!" Putting a card into the drop zone, Yza searched his G Zone to find a card. "The spirited next form of the founder of the Stardust Knight! Awaken to a new future and leave your mystic past behind! Cosmo Code Dragon, Shooting Star "Quasar Burst"!" The vanguard circle expanded a bright rainbow colour once again. "Skill of Quasar Burst! Counterblast and G Persona Blast. You can flip two cards in the damage zone face down if you want. This is until end of turn."
"And if I don't?"
"I draw a card for each card you can't or don't flip face down."
"I'll flip two cards face down." Backlion closed his eyes and opened them again.
"Skill of Shimada in the damage zone! Since he was turned face down, I can soulblast one and draw a card. I call Starbau! Violent violet flames drawn from the annihilation you've caused and the strength you've been forced to gain to survive this imperfect world! Give everything and everyone in this world a use once more-! GENERATION STRIDE, MY TRUE AVATAR!! DARK DRAGON, SPECTRAL BLASTER "DIABLO"!—" Spectral Blaster "Diablo" behind Backlion flapped open his massive black wings, and on the ends of them were bright purple-blue flames ignited and burning brightly. Soaring into the sky, Spectral said softly,
"Thank you, my vanguard."
Suddenly, out of Backlion's back grew two angel-like wings made out of bright purple flames. Spiralling out of his left eye was purple flames. "Stride skill! (Taboo Mage, Cafar, Emancipating Revenger, Allyl, Taboo Mage, Cafar, Revenger, Undead Angel, Belial Owl, Revenger, Undead Angel, Dark Revenger, Mac Lir, Belial Owl) Oh... I've checked through my whole deck."
"Seven triggers... and one Perfect Guard?!" Yza quivered as he looked through the eight cards.
"I have to call Mac Lir and I shuffle the rest back into my deck." Backlion hummed. "I'll lose if I don't win this turn." He put a finger on Spectral Blaster "Diablo"'s card. "So, I'll finish it with my avatar. Soulblast one and G Blast my last Helheim. Retiring Mac Lir and he gets a new skill! Call Revolt. Boosted by Mauthe, Revolt attacks! (11000 > 18000)"

"Spectral, attack the vanguard! (26000)" Backlion turned the card sideways, and in turn made purple flames come off the card.

"No guard..." Backlion mumbled, his head still staring up at the sky.

"Damage checks." Backlion flipped his head down back to the fight and flipped two cards. (Revenger, Undead Angel, Taboo Mage, Cafar) "Good game, Yza." Backlion smiled brightly.
"...so I won? Did... did I... beat the Void?!"
"I don't know." Backlion collected his cards. "You tell me." Spectral Blaster "Diablo" swooped in and grabbed Backlion, before flying away with him between his arms.
"Rukia!" Yza turned around and looked at her.
"I saw." She nodded. "But.. even if we did beat the Void... how come the portal isn't closing? Why isn't anything going back to normal?"
"I... don't know..." Yza picked up his cards. He looked around and swallowed hard. He looked around him with an anxious face, as his heart was racing fast, as if something wasn't right. "... please tell everyone thanks." Yza then looked at Rukia. "Thanks for being my friends.... allies... enemies..." He got out of his seat with a bittersweet expression, and walked towards Rukia, before stopping in front of her. "And I want to thank you the most." Yza leaned in and quickly kissed Rukia on the lips. "You're the favourite person I've met."
"...Yza... what... what are you saying?"
"The problem isn't on Earth." He turned to face the swirling portal. "It's on Cray."
Starting to walk towards the portal, Yza stood at the edge of it, taking a deep breath. "I'm sorry... everyone....." Releasing a cold sigh, he rubbed his face. "God knows what'll happen to me... Oh well. If anything... I regret not losing my virginity and not having ramen as my last meal."
"...YZA, DON'T!! DON'T GO INTO CRAY!! DON'T ENTER THE PORTAL!!!"The shrill, desperate cries of Rukia didn't stop nor change Yza's mind. Stepping forward, Yza fell inside the swirling vortex connecting Earth and Cray. Once he entered, the portal became unstable. It rumbled, and started to shake the school and the ground beneath, causing the start of a possibly very dangerous earthquake. Rukia was on her knees, crying her heart out into her hands while the device started to collapse on itself.

However, a shadowy figure landed on the shaking building with a loud thud. The cool, calm clacking of their boots showed a great confidence in their stride. A harsh snap sound was made, followed by a plastic thud.
"Black rabbits don't suit me..." A masculine voice spoke. "I, however, don't want to miss the finale of the fruits of labour father brought me." Standing at the edge, Ayato stared down into the portal. "......." He skydived into it.

Then, everything settled.
