Later that at day Sonic finally convinced Tails to let him hold on to the green emerald he felt like he had a connection with. He'd spend minutes staring it down as it had a special power he never could've imagined. Although he wondered why they were so... huge. Who made these? What's their purpose? Although the answers could be found in that same book he picked up just then, he felt as if it wasn't the truest answer.

"The Guide to Using the Chaos Emeralds..." Sonic read the title of the book out loud, as he laid on his bed, holding the book up to the sky, flipping open to the first chapter. "These mysterious gems hold immense power to the user, for good or for worse, depending on their deepest desires. The first person to have ever used it, is still unknown to this day, was granted with the positive energy, giving him unimaginable strength and speed to help win the war between the hedgehogs and the foxes..."

He continued reading about the history of the emeralds, not caring about it much until something got his attention. "When the seven are found and used, they scatter to different places all around the world, making it difficult for anyone to get their hands on this power boost. They hope that one day, someone would discover these gems once again and use them for good."

"So there's seven of them... and they do have special powers."

The azure hedgehog thought as he flipped to the second chapter, which explained how to "use" the emeralds. "Here's a small explanation of each emerald. The red one is very powerful, granting the user super strength. The blue one, speed, yellow is flight, green is life, purple is desire, light blue is pure form, gray is invincibility......" He keeps reading until he found out how to use the green emerald.

"To activate the green gem's power, you first need the gem. Hold it up to the sun. Say the word 'immortality'."

"Immortality, eh? Might as well give it a shot."

He took the book and the abnormally large rock outside. The sun was setting, but he figured that it wouldn't matter as the sun was still visible. He held the emerald out with two hands towards the sun to where the reflection of the green light almost blinded him, and then softly spoke the word "Immortality". He closed his eyes, the light getting a little too intense. He stayed like that for a whole minute before opening his left eye, a flicky had landed on the emerald, pecking at it.

"HEY GET OFF OF THAT, THIS IS FRAGILE!" He yelled at the bird, who chirped three times before flying away. The hedgehog sighed, sat down on the soft grass below him, the green emerald resting safely in his lap as he picked up the book and continued reading the second chapter until he fell asleep, holding onto that emerald.

"The tracker said it should be here, but why haven't I found it yet?!" A voice could be heard if anyone were to go emerald hunting in the middle of Silent Forest. Or if it could be heard over two large metallic drills shoving their way into the damp soil in search of the rocks.

This person was none other than the fat egg himself, who had also read about the gems and the powers they hold. In fact, that's what he wanted it for. To further enhance the power capabilities of his robots so a certain blue porcupine can't insta-kill them. He'd been digging so many holes that it looked like a city of moles lived in the area.

He growled, about to give up when he heard a clink. "AH HA!" He jumped out of the contraption (Which he shouldn't have but it's Eggman) and got on his hands and knees to finish digging up the gem. But it wasn't a gem at all. It was a very old and small rusted chest. He still grinned and took it out of the ground anyways. There was a lock on it, and to open it is a key. Six keys to be exact. But they weren't any ordinary keys, as the holes had six diamond shaped holes on the lid. He huffed as he carried that chest into his hovercraft and hopped in it, and flew back to his base.
