Meanwhile, at Cinderella's chateau, she was still thinking about her new love interest. As she did her chores, she hummed happily to herself—but little did she know that her jealous stepsisters were spying on her. Cinderella was dreaming of getting married to Prince Hugo, and she started to sing to herself.

A dream is a wish your heart makes

When you're fast asleep

In dreams, you will lose your heartaches

Whatever you wish for, you keep

Have faith in your dreams, and someday

Your rainbow will come smiling through

No matter how your heart is grieving,

If you keep on believing,

The dream that you wish will come true

Suddenly, Lady Jennings showed up, holding a piece of paper. "Celeste, Calliope, I have good news!" she beamed. "Tonight, there is to be a royal ball for Prince Hugo! By royal command, every eligible maiden is to attend!"

This made the ugly stepsisters very excited. "Why, that's us!" Celeste beamed.

"And I'm so eligible," Calliope gloated.

"How exciting!" Cinderella beamed as she twirled around.

But then the stepsisters just laughed at Cinderella.

"Imagine Cinderella dancing with the prince!" Calliope cackled.

"She's only fit to dance with a broom!" Celeste scoffed.

Those words hurt Cinderella, but she held her head high and said, "Well, why not? After all, I'm still a member of the family—and it says that every eligible maiden is to attend, and by royal command."

Lady Jennings reread the invitation carefully and realized that her stepdaughter was right. "Yes, so it does," she agreed. "Well, I see no reason why you can't go—but what about your new boyfriend?"

Lady Jennings, Celeste, and Calliope didn't know that Prince Hugo was Cinderella's boyfriend—and she had to make sure it stayed that way. "I'm not even interested in dancing with the prince," she lied. "I've worked so hard that I deserve to have a good time just as much as Celeste and Calliope."

"Indeed, but first you need to get all your work done," Lady Jennings told her.

"I'm sure I can!" Cinderella beamed. "Thank you, Stepmother!"

Cinderella dashed off to continue her chores, leaving Celeste and Calliope dismayed.

Cinderella worked as hard as she could. Lady Jennings wondered who Cinderella's new boyfriend could be, but she was worried that Prince Hugo would never fall in love with her daughters if he met Cinderella. Of course, she didn't know that the prince was in love with Cinderella already. To keep Cinderella from going to the ball, Lady Jennings kept her stepdaughter even busier than ever.

Cinderella worked hard on her stepfamily's clothes for the ball. She worked so hard that she didn't have any time to work on her own dress.

As soon as Cinderella had finished her stepsisters' gowns for the ball, it was almost time to go. Pretty soon, the carriage came to take the stepfamily to the palace for the ball.

"Stepmother, the carriage is here," Cinderella sighed, hiding her disappointment.

"Cinderella, you're not ready," Lady Jennings said, pretending to be surprised.

"I'm not going," Cinderella claimed.

"Not going?" Lady Jennings asked. "I'm sure there will be other times."

"I wouldn't worry about that," Cinderella said. "My boyfriend wouldn't like it if I went to the palace for the ball anyway. Have a good time."

Cinderella was disappointed that she wouldn't go to the ball to reunite with her new boyfriend, and it made her stepfamily to see her miserable.
