❝Everyone deserves their fairytale ending, and I'm willing to wait however long it takes for my happily ever after.❞

Ella Cinder was living a fairytale. Only before the part where she gets to live happily ever after. At least that's what she'd tell herself as she scrubbed the floors and washed the dishes, coming at her stepmother's beck and call, practically a servant in her own home. Having grown up with the fairytales her father would read to her before she went to sleep at night, she honestly believed her life so far was all merely the part before it would turn for the better.

So even when things seemed their worst, she remained sweet and kind, holding onto that hope things would get better if she stayed so despite the challenges sent her way. Because the universe rewarded those who were pure of heart, right? That was the way it went in her father's stories. Stay good and nice, and everything will eventually turn for the best.

The one thing she wanted, more than anything in the world, was to find her true love so she could live happily ever after. Like in the stories. That's how it always happened, right? Homeschooled by her stepmother since her father passed away, she wanted to go to a real school, to be noticed by someone, find her prince, and to make real friends, because while her cat was a well enough friend, he wasn't a substitute for people to talk to and laugh with. After years of begging and begging and begging, her stepmother finally relented under a few conditions, but Ella didn't care. She only wanted a chance for her happy ending.

Flash Thompson didn't have many friends. Sure, people thought he was cool, but few people could actually stand him, few people could actually be called his friends. On the day a new student comes to Midtown High with an overly optimistic (almost unrealistically so) look on things, he didn't expect to take pity on the girl he found stranded alone in the rain. After all, it's not her fault she ended up blindly believing in fairytales to cope with her life, and he can't help taking her under his wing. She was so innocent and sweet, he felt he needed to teach her how the world works different than she believes. But how's that even possible when she can hardly accept it?

As the sweet, talkative girl ends up becoming friends with the school bully, they try to help each other out. Ella believes he needs to see things with a brighter perspective, and he thinks she needs to wake up. As Ella strives to achieve her dream, Flash tries to make her see reality, along the way the two learning that while happy endings might not exist, you don't need a perfect fairytale when you have people you care about who care about you, because they're the ones who make the story seem as pretty darn close to one as it's ever gonna get.

Author's Note

Okay, this is a completely platonic Flash fanfic I made because I became inspired when I saw my favorite Marvel fanfic writer, who is like one of the goddesses of Marvel fan fiction, spiderlad who has done a Disney/Marvel Sleeping Beauty, and is currently doing one of the Little Mermaid, and while I guess Cinderella is a little cliche, it was always one of my favorite movies as a kid, all the remakes, the versions, even the brothers Grimm, though it is a bit darker than Disney.

Besides, I believe Flash Thompson does deserve a friend who sees the best in things because while I don't approve of his bullying, I think the main reason he's so awful to Peter is because he's jealous. Because if I were in his shoes, and I saw it the way he sees things, I probably wouldn't like Peter very much either. So while I really don't like how Flash treats him, I do think he deserves some love. So, um, here's a platonic Flash Thompson fanfic, I guess. Love it, hate it, but I really wanted to do one, so here it is.
