"No!" I instantly replied. I didn't want to get dressed up for nothing. He can't know that much? Right?

I unhooked my arm and decided to walk away. Maybe my uncle will know something.

"Aww, don't be like that Ella!" He followed behind me.

"I refuse to go. I don't want to waste a night playing dress up." I stopped and told him. Does it look like I enjoy going to dances?

"We don't have to stay the whole night," he promised and after a sigh, "You don't have to wear a fancy dress."

"But why? Isn't there another price?" I complained.

"Mmm... No." He acted as if he was thinking but his mind was already made up.

"But why?" I repeated.

"I'll tell you if you agree to go with me," he persuaded. I want to know but am I desperate enough to say yes. Questions, questions, questions; they're going to drive me insane.

"When exactly an I going to find out these answers?" I enquired.

"After you hold up your end of the bargain."

"No way! You could continue blackmailing me with the answers afterwards," I exclaimed.

"Fine, fine, fine. I'll tell you now but you'll have to promise to come or I'll drag you there regardless," he negotiated.

"Ok, you have a deal." We shook hands.

We then decided to go to the ice cream place in town to talk. We went to to the counter to get our ice cream. I ordered chocolate (the best flavour) whilst Calvin order strawberry. We sat down at a booth and I dived into eating my ice cream, momentarily forgetting the real reason I was here. This ice cream in the best thing I've ever had. Yum!

Calvin cleared his throat, "So where do I start?"

I licked my lips before replying, "The beginning is usually a good place."

"Umm okay... So I was a recruit two years ago. This is my third year in the business and this project was a bit different." He paused to eat some of his ice cream as it melted.

"How different?"

"Well the project was based on a person who was busy with the recruitment phase. Also I had to keep them away from 2 people, instead of one." He paused again to make sure I was following. I have a feeling this person is me...

"Oh so who this person?" I asked to make sure my idea was correct.

"You."

"I knew it! So does that mean you were one of the people who messaged me?" I nearly dropped my ice cream in excitement. Finally I'm getting somewhere.

"Well yeah on the first few days, but then I stopped because I was told to stop."

"Wait, who were the guys?", I asked.

"Umm, Jacob and Ashton. With you being a tomboy and all it wasn't that easy," he responded. Oh now it makes sense. His random interrupting and how he knew what was going on at Jacob's house.

"So you've been basically stalking me these past two weeks," I joked.

"When you put it that way it doesn't sound like I'm helping you. So is that all you have left to ask?" he tried to conclude. Nope, one more question.

"Why do you want me to come with you to the dance?" I firmly asked.

"Just because I needed a date," he replied with indifference.

"You were asked yesterday by some girl." I narrowed my eyes in suspicion.

"Well I wanted to go with a friend rather than an acquaintance..." he defended.

"So I'm the said friend?" He nodded in confirmation.

"You need more friends," I mumbled. After we finished our ice creams, Calvin insisted I go home and get ready but I had hours until this evening. What does he think I'm going to do in the mean time?

I spent the rest of the day in front of the TV, watching the reruns of Friends and eating. In the afternoon, my mum came home and I told her about this evening leaving out the bits of blackmail. She checked to see if I had a fever when she heard I was going. Yeah, I would think I'm sick too but unfortunately this is more of a curiosity killed he cat moments.

It was only when I had an hour before I got picked up, that I went to shower and get ready. I grabbed one of the few dresses I owned and shoved it on. I wore it to some wedding a while back so it should still fit. It was light purple with sleeves and it was long. I mean what else it there to a dress??

I left my hair open and put some pins to keep it out of the way. At least my blue hair isn't clashing horribly...

There was a knock at the door. I put on some flat sandals and grabbed my phone. There wasn't some slow dramatic moment where I walked down the stairs like in movies. Instead my mum was feeding Calvin some baked good in the kitchen so I joined them for a bit. Who would say no to cake?

Eventually we had to leave. Calvin was dressed in a black suit with a white shirt. No tie. Calvin opened the door for me, suddenly all gentleman-like. I rolled my eyes in response and got in. It wasn't as awkward as I thought it would be. The conversation easily flowed around random topics until we arrived at school.

"You look beautiful," Calvin complimented. How am I supposed to reply to that?

"Haha thanks," I awkwardly replied. Way to go and make it a bit awkward.

We walked besides each other to the hall where the main event was taking place. Upon walking in, we ran into random students who we made small talk with for a while.

The hall was decorated with balloons and draping. The music was the latest eat pop tunes and there were different coloured disco lights to spice up the night. I hope the farewell dance isn't like this.

Suddenly. Emily jumped on top of me and screamed, "I'm so glad you came!"

Max and Calvin laughed at me whilst Emily started giving me a bone-crushing hug. Emily was wearing one of the dresses she'd shown me a picture of. It was red and sparkly. She looks really pretty.

"Can't breath," I chocked out. She let me go and turned to interrogate Calvin.

"So how did you manage to get her her?" she demanded.

"Um well," he looked at me for help. Oh well you see he had the answers to all the CC business.

"Blackmail," I answered for him.

"How?" Emily wanted to know.

"Well it won't work if he tells you now." I shrugged. Calvin relaxed at bit. Safe for now.

"True, true but I'm so happy you came!" she squealed.

We continued to talked for a bit before Max grabbed her to go dance. Calvin must've sensed my distaste for dancing because he didn't ask me to dance. We continued to mingle. I was starting to get a bit bored.

Ashton and his date started to walk towards us. I nudged Calvin, "What's his dates name?"

"Delaney," he answered in time and they had both arrived. We made some small talk before they left to dance. Something about it being Delaney's favourite song.

"I'm bored now, can we leave?" I complained quietly to Calvin. Calvin nodded so we made our way to the door. Jacob and Marissa must've had the same idea because we met them at the door.

"Hey losers. We're going to get pizza, wanna come?" Jacob greeted. It was only the four of us in the car park. We're probably the first people to leave.

"Yeah, I'm hungry," Calvin agreed, then looked to see my response. I nodded. Pizza is life.

We then jumped into our own cars, met up at the pizza place and proceeded to spent the rest of our night there. I had more fun there than at the dance. Calvin dropped me home afterwards.

I suppose it wasn't a total waste of an evening...
