Zane's POV

I halted my motorcycle coming to a stop under a tree with wide shade. I waited for her to get down, she placed a hand on my shoulder and slipped down in a fluid motion.

I almost smiled, she wasn't even able to hop on the first time she tried but now she was so used to it that she didn't even notice.

I parked my motorcycle and started to walk, I didn't bother turning around, no matter how red-faced she is with anger I know she will follow me, she doesn't have any other ride.

My snickers padded on the soft grass as it started to get thicker the deeper we walked. She stomped behind me expressing her displeasure.

" Why are we here, I want to meet Oreana," she asked, her temper clear in her voice.

" We cannot meet her now" I answered her in a controlled voice as I walked forward, guiding her to the small clearing.

" Zane, please I need to talk to her" she spoke, pulling my arm to bring me to a stop. I faced her with a blank look. Her eyes were puffy and red, with the emotional exertion.

I tried to explain it to her in a softer tone, " You need to calm down Ariel, we can't meet her in broad daylight" I tried to get the point to her, that there will be repercussions to our action. And she may be naive to the system but the whip will land hard if we threaded recklessly.

We were taking a risk when we met her in the alley. But that was important, we wanted Ariel on our side.

But she doesn't know the consequences, she is not from here.

" I am calm, just give me her number I can talk to her on phone" she demanded stretching her hand out. I shook my head at her.

" We are meeting with her tonight, with all of us, every colorless." I bargained but I didn't saw her pacify.

" Zane I just found out that my Nanu is alive" she said as if I can't understand that. I saw the scene unfold before my eyes, I saw her longing, his longing to be with his granddaughter. It was not something I was expecting, what are the chances of Ariel finding her Nanu here. Alive that is.

" I know" I answered and lowered myself on the ground now that I am sure she won't try to walk back.

" How can you know, you live with your family, so what if it is in this shitty town. At least you all are still together," she yelled in frustration and dropped down on the grass with an angry exhale, she folded her knees, bringing her legs together and glared at me.

That stung deeper than she intended.

Yes, she is right I am with my family.

That sounded like self-reassurance to my own ears, who am I kidding. Every family in Urydale is like broken glass, stuck together by new bonds formed under the circumstance.

But I didn't comment, I simple leaned back and laid on the soft grass beside her.

She didn't say anything after that and I didn't try to disrupt the comfortable silence that blanketed over us.

I tilted my head sideways to see her.

She laid on the grass, her silver hairs an unearthly contrast, creating a halo around her head as the sunlight reflected on them, shimmering. I took my time studying every detail of her face. From her deep brown eyes that glowed in the filtered light to her tiny nose dotted with a few freckles.

She looked like something out of my reach, something out of Urydale.

I forced my eyes away from her and instead gazed up at the sky.

When Jarek had told me, that he saw my 'silver-haired girlfriend' breaking into the station, I had felt my breath stop and my brain refused to function.

If I haven't gotten there before they caught her. If- .

I sighed at the memory of dread that I had experienced, seeing her hiding in plain sight glued to a wall. Anyone could have identified her just by her hair color, she looks like something exotic, not like the general tanned public of Urydale.

With the dread the memories returned, the lashing of the stick on my back felt too real, each wince, each strike, it felt as if I was still there, in the station cell.

Caught trying to break it.

I shook the memories away vigorously, her presence grounding me to the reality, away from the pain.

She is important, her and Skye. They are the only way we can escape from this hell hole. The only chance out.
