Synopsis: 15 year old Sparrow is a girl in Redmont fief. She is pretty, clever, small, and forever up to mischief. But one day, her parents are killed in a fire and she is left an orphan. Aware of her potential, Will Treaty decides to take her as his apprentice. She learns quickly. One day, while they are at Horace and Cassandra's wedding, Sparrow wanders off and finds a strange red-orange stone. Or rather, a dragon egg. Things get even more complicated when the Dragon hatches for her, making her a dragon rider. And when she meets Jack Norson, will she be able to keep her secret?

Btw, this is a sort of crossover between Ranger's Apprentice and Eragon (the Inheritance cycle) and takes place after book 10 of Ranger's Apprentice.
