jellyfishpaw was blind.

when she was born, she was just like any other kit. active, curious, tripping over anything she put her tiny paws on and causing trouble. but when she opened her eyes, they were already clouded over. sightless.

this didn't hinder her abilities, however. no, jellyfishkit could navigate just fine. went around using the sounds, scents and feelings from the earth, she claimed. this seemed impossible to any average cat; perhaps her other senses were heightened by her blindness.

but could a cat with her disability become a warrior? aspenrise and peonylinger first took the young she-cat under their wing, but they didn't see anything that marked her a medicine cat. confining the young cat to the elders' den for life wasn't an option, so hornetstar and dolphinriver took their chances and re-apprenticed her to a warrior named rueskip.

turns out, it didn't take very long for jellyfishpaw to prove that the lack of sight wasn't a major impairment for her. after spending less than a moon in the forest, she could move as confidently as any sighted cat. she could judge the distance between her and a piece of prey- or an enemy- from listening and feeling the small vibrations in the ground, even if she couldn't scent them.

the silver tabby quickly proved herself to be one of the best future warriors in her clan. sometimes, the warriors even joked about how their abilities would be enhanced by blindness.

soon enough, jellyfishpaw would become one of the clan's best warriors.
