Now that you've seen how a simple cover looks let's talk about your spacing. How you place things on your graphic is extremely important. From where the images are to where the text is and how big everything is.

We'll use the simple cover to demonstrate this.

There's a lot of empty space (what designers call white space) left when the text is placed this way. In the upper corner is a Wattpad sized thumbnail and while the text is readable, it's less effective in such a small size. It has less of an impact on the reader. It looks sort of 'blah' and boring.

Here's the cover from the previous chapter with the thumbnail example

You can see the difference in what a reader sees when they look at your profile. It has more of an impact this way. Everything matters. You want your cover to be attractive to readers, if it isn't they will move on to another book. It won't matter how great your story is if they never get past your cover they'll never know it.

In design everything must be in proportion and it must be pleasing to the eye. A reader will see your book and want to pick it up and find out more, they may not understand exactly why other than they like the look. It works the same for why they might walk away from your book. Be critical about your design, take a step back and peer at it. Move things around, if it doesn't work then move it back. Don't settle for something simply because you think it's 'good enough', make it exceptional and something you want to show off.
