I was in college, and I decided to volunteer at a nursing home. One day, as I was going to bathe one elderly woman named Susan, I felt a chill. It was as if someone had doused me in cold water. A scent of some old lady perfume filled the air. I shrugged it off and walked toward Susan's room. When I got there, Susan was laying in her chair, gazing at the wall. "Susan," I called to her. She looked at me and smiled before closing her eyes. I thought it was weird, so I decided to go to the service desk and ask Ms. Amanda if she could make sure Susan was okay. Ms. Amanda gazed at me sadly. "Ms. Taylor, Susan died this morning." My eyes widened. "But- I just-" I broke off and bolted to Susan's room. When I got there, the room was empty. Not a single soul was there. Well, not a visible one.

I soon quit my job there, horrified. To this day, the memory still lingers that poor Susan's spirit smiled at me.
