Fireheart could scent a mouse somewhere near Snake Rocks. He sniffed the air, ears twitching and listening for a scuffle. Yes... He thought, there's a mouse here. He ducked, making sure he was downwind. His stomach rumbled as he stalked. Licking his lips, he crouched, ready to pounce. 3... 2... Suddenly, he was bowled backwards into a rock. Shrieking loudly, he whipped around and found himself face to face with another cat.

"Leopardfur!" He yowled, baring his teeth, "I demand that you stay off Thunderclan territory!" Leopardfur laughed smugly.

"Fireheart, it's one of you against half my clan. I don't think you have much chance of making us leave." Smiling, she turned around and yelled to her clan:

"I'll handle this warrior!" Fireheart took this moment to leap forward. Leopardfur hissed, staring at Fireheart with fiery eyes. She sprang forward suddenly, giving him little chance to defend himself. He batted his paw at her, claws unsheathed. Leopardfur sunk her teeth into his leg. Fireheart screeched. The pain was agony. He rolled over and tried to get her off, but it was no use.

"Not so brave now, are we?" she hissed. A familiar scent suddenly filled his nostrils. Thunderclan cats... he thought. Leopardfur must have sensed them too because her grip was weakening. Fireheart stole his chance and leaped up, causing Leopardfur to fall backwards. The effort made his leg hurt again, so he lay down.

"Fireheart? Are you alright?! Fireheart! Fireheart, wake up!" Fireheart opened his eyes. He was in his den.

"Hey Greystripe" he muttered sleepily, "is something wrong?"

"No, everything is good."

"Bad dream? You were moaning in your sleep," Greystripe meowed.

"I'm good, don't worry," he said, washing his leg. Greystripe left the den slowly, leaving Fireheart alone. What was that dream? Was it a message from StarClan? He stretched slowly then padded out of the den. Most of the other cats were already awake, and the fresh-kill pile was getting bigger.

He looked up as the trees rustled, allowing a bit of sunlight to reach the camp. The canopy of trees had always been thick, especially during greenleaf. He sat still, embracing the wave of heat that had just reached the camp. He looked up and saw Greystripe walking towards him.

"Mouse?" he offered, dropping it at his feet.

"Thanks", Fireheart mumbled, having already taken a bite of the mouse.

"Fancy going hunting?" Greystripe asked.

"Yeah sure. Do you mind if I bring Cloudpaw?" he looked towards the fresh-kill pile where Cloudpaw was choosing some food with the other apprentices.

"Alright" he smiled, then bounded over to the camp entrance. Fireheart scampered after him, shouting for Cloudpaw as he went. Cloudpaw dropped the squirrel he was holding and raced after them, leaving the other apprentices to fight over the squirrel.

Fireheart had lost sight of Greystripe, so he slowed down so he could find his scent. After sniffing around wildly, he found it. But he could sense a fear scent with it too. What had scared Greystripe? He followed the sent a little more. Suddenly, he heard a loud screech and a gigantic owl appeared out of nowhere. He yowled loudly, hoping Cloudpaw wasn't near here. He saw something move in the bushes and realised it was Greystripe.

"Come in here" he hissed "Quickly!" Fireheart ran as fast as he could towards Greystripe, kicking leaves off the ground as he went. He was a tail-length away,  a mouse-length away... He felt its talons gripping around his waist. He twisted around in an attempt to attack the owl but it was no use. With one last screech the owl flew up into the sky with Fireheart. It seemed to be happening in slow motion. There he was, being carried away from ThunderClan, never again to return. He could hear Greystripe yowling, a sound full of anger and sorrow. He closed his eyes, then blacked out.
