Virgil sighed heavily and leaned back against the pillows. Roman tilted his head and looked at him with gentle concern. "Is something still bothering you?" he asked, squeezing his hand.

"I'm just so tired," he admitted. "These past couple years have just been nothing but chaos and torment. I'm so tired of having to fight or run for my life. I wanted live a normal life. I wanted to be able to show my face in front of others without my powers going crazy. I wanted to be with you... but I got this instead."

The prince sadly smiled in understanding. "I get it, but hey, at least you're with me some how," he pointed out. "You'll always have me."

"Could you just lay with me for a bit?" Virgil asked, looking up with wide eyes. "I'm not ready to go back out there... I need a little more time to get a handle on myself. I'm too stressed to be of any help to anyone right now."

"It's okay Virge, you need to rest more anyway," Roman replied. He smiled and released his hand. He made his way around to the other side of the bed and then slid under the covers beside the dark prince. They laid together, facing each other and gazing into each other's eyes. "You know that no one expects you to be strong all the time, right? You're still allowed to be anxious or scared. I think we all are right now. You're not disappointing anyone by needing to recover from what happened."

He nodded reluctantly. "Yeah I know..."

Roman sighed and pulled him closer. He rested his chin on top of Virgil's head gently, kissing his hair comfortingly. He felt the boy in his arms melt against him. He smiled knowingly and hummed softly. Soon they were both asleep.

King Patton poked his head into his son's room. When he eyes landed on them in the bed, a smile found its way onto his lips. He closed the door, deciding it was best to let them rest a little more. Things were hectic and they never got a chance to breathe. Patton couldn't bring himself to ruin the one moment of relief they had managed to create.

The royal made his way through the halls of his palace. He looked out the windows at the overcast skies. A sigh escaped his lips as he looked down at the floor. He felt like it had been years since the sun had shone on him and his kingdom. Perhaps this was his fault... Perhaps if he was a stronger, better leader things would've ended differently. Maybe they wouldn't be in the situation they were in now. If he'd taught Virgil to be proud of his magic instead of afraid of it... what would have changed back then?

"Patton? Are you alright?" a voice said, pulling him from his thoughts.

"Yes, of course," he replied instantly. He forced a smile onto his face as he looked up to see his husband looking at him with worry. Logan simply arched an eyebrow at him and his facade crumbled. He sighed heavily. "No... I'm really not alright..."

His husband took his hand and led him into a room where they could talk in private. "What's the matter?"

Pent up emotions seemed to bubble over as tears sprung to Patton's eyes at the question. He felt his throat close up, making it difficult to swallow. He looked up to try and stop the tears from falling. He felt ridiculous. He was an adult, the king of a nation; yet, he was here crying about his problems like a child.

"Patton," Logan murmured, reaching up to cup his cheek. He hadn't realized it, but his tears had escaped and began to drip down his face. His husband's thumb brushed them away as he met his eyes with a concerned gaze. "Talk to me, sweetheart..."

The king broke down in sobs and pushed himself into Logan's chest. The other royal gasped in shock but wrapped his arms around him nonetheless. "I'm so lost, Logan... I'm so lost..." he whispered through his tears. His whole form was trembling. "I feel like this is all my fault. If I had taught Virgil to be proud of his magic- If I had been able to help him- If he hadn't been taken prisoner- There's so many things I could've done to prevent all of this from happening, but I didn't all because I was too scared, and now look what's happening!"

His words hung in the air as his sobs turned to pitiful sniffles. Logan rubbed his back as he tried to think of how to comfort him. "I can't erase the pain of the past, but I can help you move forward," he told him. "What's done is done, it is what it is... you can't dwell on your past if you want to have a future."

"But I might not have a future because of my past actions-"

"That's not true," Logan corrected. "You have a future because of your past actions. Yes, things don't seem pleasant right now, but the only reason we're here in this moment is because of how we behaved in our past. You're right, maybe things would've happened differently, but you can't go back and change it. You have to focus on the future you have, and strive to make it better."

Patton still looked a bit sad and scared in spite of his words, so he tried to say something a little more emotion oriented. "You know I'm not good with these types of things, but I can assure you that you won't have to go through this alone," he said gently. "There's a ring on each of our fingers to support my statement. I know things are scary right now and I know I'm not the best at comforting people, but I will always do my best regardless."

"Thank you, Logan, that's all that matters, is that you try to help me, that you care," Patton whispered. He buried his face into his husband's chest. "Thank you, I really needed your support."

Logan pulled away to bow to him and kiss his hand. "My pleasure Your Majesty."
